Iceland?
Anyone interested in VPS in Iceland?
Same as usual (less BW maybe), no (native) IPv6 but... Iceland
Would anyone be ready to preorder if we make it final? (what do you think about this in general? is pre ordering at larger companys acceptable with some % cheaper price then to help refinance a new location?)
As usual any input in welcome!

I don't think Iceland has a lot of bandwidth.
Hit me up once you can pre-order, I'd place one order just to try it out, if the prices are similar to yoru current once. :P
What audience would you want to sell Iceland based VPS to?
@DominicHakke Icelandic people?
I do not see a market into this William, maybe you can shed a light?
I wonder what the benefit of it would be other than for cool-ness or VPS collections or helping Arctic reasearchers watch por.. whatever they watch/do on the internet with lower ping and faster speeds.. Or is that just me being a troll?
EDIT: Damn, you guys beat me to it
I would try it just for fun lol.
I assume price would be good since cooling is not that expensive! though I guess keeping seals and sea lions out of the DC might require extra security.
It does, not an issue
Not sure, free speech activists, Scandinavians.... etc

Ah, I thought Iceland was connected to the internet by a single fibre optic cable under the ocean.
Hákarl loving crazy Icelandics? (Rotten shark that tastes like urine)
Definitely yes!
I would get one just because of its unique location.
I don't know how peering would be. There is only 1 IXP in greenland.
Iceland datacenters are powered by renewable energy sources only. It could be interesting, if latency is low. According to the Iceland connectivity map on the Verneglobal datacenter website, it may be good. Do you have a test IP ?
Ping IP 193.107.86.1

Well that's basically nearly also true for Austria. But besides that I like Iceland as a location. Diversity- and legally-wise.
Nice, ~64ms latency (Germany), ~82ms latency (France).
Sign me up, I'd buy one. ~50ms latency for me.
Datacenter website has info on connectivity http://www.thordc.com/environment/
Not bad;
From my home connection I get 62ms average.
) I get 44ms average.
From my UK VPS (OnePoundWebHosting
From my Luxembourg Server I get 52ms average.
From Pingdom (which is in Sweden?) I get 74ms average [Odd].
Odd? It has a far greater distance than the UK to Iceland.
http://www.datacenterdynamics.com/focus/archive/2011/12/new-atlantic-cable-will-start-operating-2013 is coming too.
@William: Yes.
Exactly 100ms from Bulgaria, home connection.

Looks good, ping time is very stable
It would be great if the server also had a good connection to the USA, people form both the EU and US have a ~60-70 ping
Im in PA in USA and I get around 140ms

Looks like routing is going to Europe (Germany) then back to Iceland..
I would be interested. Been after a Iceland VPS for some time. but there too darn expensive.
Set up the pre-order
I get about 90ms ping from the Netherlands, it varies a lot though (between 70 and 110ms).
If you can offer the same 'bulletproof-ness' (in the sense of free speech and activism, not in the sense of warez and malware) that native Icelandic hosts can offer, I would definitely be interested.
You have a good point there, we checked the same datacenter out a while ago.
At the time the shipping costs where high for Supermicro stuff at least.
I'm interested too. Seems to be a nice exotic location
I'm interested now, and I'm sure many more will be once Emerald Express is up and running. (And yes, I'd preorder.)
