A man won 500 GB of FTP space in a prize draw and decided to immediately violate the AUP of the hosting provider where he won the prize draw.

    WTF !!!

This guy defends them 24/7, so I decided to check his history. Oh man, the number of times he suggests buying from CharityHost—wow.

    Say the number!

found 7 https://imgur.com/a/gtPGHw2, you want me to keep digging?

Thank you for doing the assignment. Now explain what the problem is?

You are wrong. Seeing public domain data is not snooping.

Holy shit, he still doesn't get it.

It doesn't matter what the directory name was, it's irrelevant. The action undertook to see public_html was the crime committed. Full. Stop.

If you are sitting in a park on a bench, I walk by and see you sitting in a park on a bench ... have I done something wrong because I saw you?

I this case, it wasn't walking by.

You looked for that person, went near to that person and while hiding behind a tree, you looked at what he was doing.

    That's creepy behavior.

Why you sound exactly like Charityhost? Also you are here to just justify and promote CH as much as seen in activity.

It's just a name, it's nothing special WITHOUT a webserver. A webserver doesn't run on an FTP service.

Just renaming a directory to Public doesn't suddenly make it public. If the provider allows anonymous access, HE FUCKED UP, not OP.

You're dumb, but I suspect you're trying to be this obtuse.

  • bdspicebdspice Member

Can anyone able to create a poll to suspend CH provider tag?

    I'm convinced you're dumb!
You don't know the difference between public and private, you don't know what the public_html folder is and what it's for.

You ask me why? Why did you upload prohibited content to the server when you knew it was prohibited. I even suspect that this was all set up on your part to happen, that you calculated everything beforehand.

You intentionally uploaded this type of content to see what would happen.

I dunno man. I have services with CH and had no clue. Nobody reads the fineprint till shit hits the fan.

How are you so sure that he knew that it was prohibited? It was not accessible to the outside world, so if the host had any sense of privacy, nobody but him should know what the contents on the server are, illicit or not.

As a landlord, yes I don't want my tenant to smoke crack in my rental house, but that doesn't give me the right to randomly barge into their home to check if they are doing so.

You're right about the story with the crack and the smoke. I don't know if that can be applied here.

If this sysadmin worked for me and he'd been enabling unauthenticated http access to the ftp storage accounts I'd been selling, I'd think about firing him.

edit: and if he gave me some shittery about "public_html" directory I'd definitely fire him.
