Try just plain old TCP. Rsync uses SSH which is generally TCP.

TCP is not a reliable reflection of L3 network performance.
You should always measure with UDP.

You need both to get more information on the problem at hand.

    Fine then.

on that note, how's the STO storage users, any issues on your end? I have high IOWait on my VPS that affects single file upload speeds.

My Stockholm BF2020 servers are blazing fast (hardware and network), BF2021... not so much.

Not horrible though, but my BF2020 were and still are probably the best deals I've ever gotten for a price/performance ratio.

i have one in LAX from aug 2021 deal. initially same issues, but they migrated me and it has been amazing ever since.

this STO box has suddenly improved a little; am gonna let it settle longer and leave it be if it works reasonably ok, since its below $2/TB

  • Something tells me we will see some HostHatch service transfers in the coming weeks.

  • I've also noticed the change in drive space calculation from binary to decimal.

It gets especially noticeable as the volume sizes increase. My new "5TB" storage server only has about 4.6TB of usable space. :-1:

If you're going to complain about it, you should be precise about it. If they advertised "5TB" then it looks like you in fact received 5 TB.

If a tool in the OS reports 4.55 "TB" then this is a bug and that software should be updated to report "TiB" which is correct.

    5 TB (base 10) -> 4.55 TiB (base 2)

What is so imprecise about my complaint?

They switched from using binary to decimal calculations of disk size. They didn't change their notation, which was always "TB". Simply put, 5 TB in a new VM is not the same as 5 TB in an old one.

As you know, only hard drive manufacturers use the decimal version of "TB". Usage reported by OS tools is always reported using binary (base 2).

Did you get your VM 's RAM allocated in GB instead of GiB?

RAM on this VM shows as:

    MemTotal: 3056512 kB

So it's slightly short of 3 GiB, but bigger than 3 GB.

Hard to say what they intended, but looks to me like RAM is provisioned closer to the "standard" base 2 interpretation of what a gigabyte is.

So now instead of 5 TiB they give 5TB. As stated in the offer. Do I understand correctly?

Anyone seeing downtime in Chicago? All my 4 Chicago VMs are down right now.

    Thanked by 1darkimmortal
  • My Chicago server went down a few minutes ago and now I can't reach https://cloud.hosthatch.com

I can't even open a ticket, I just get Cloudflare CDN errors about not being able to reach the origin server.

    Anyone having issues?

  • my tokyo down, no reinstall btn, no iso load section shown.
    what happened?

  • Chicago server down same as yours.

My Chicago went down too. HH control panel is up, but submitting a ticket is broken 😞 submitting a ticket just worked.

  • My Chicago server is down as well

  • did someone get response from support ?

  • Chicago server down time > 2022-02-12 15:26:00 UTC+0

  • It's back up for me..

  • Back 😅

  • Yes, Chicago VPS keeps going up and down

Mine has been stable for hours now, are you still having issues?

    Before or today?

  • ISO mounting is not working at manage.hosthatch.com and support has not responded for 24 hours, and these guys want to the server to paid for.

What is the use of a server you can't use?

have you heard back from them yet? I'm waiting for days now :(

    @hosthatch @HostHatch_Kelvin

It is an old issue, since BF 2020, it is just a glitch, timing is the key.. dont forget start/stop the vps after mounting the iso..

you can have a success after several times trying it.
