  • Could you please have a Black Friday sale? I would like to get 100+ of the i5 13500 servers, but the setup fee is just annoying. Alternatively, could you allow booking the server directly for x months to avoid the setup fee?

Any plan to offer BGP for dedi and cloud instances?

That's what we have been waiting for.

Don't keep your hopes up. That's not going to happen. They still charge 300EUR for BGP session alone, that's excluding setup and cabling. And traffic.

They are great for Colo, but for clients that will run their own network and not rely on them. I think they intentionally do not want colo clients to use their network for some reason. That's fine for me, though - we brought our own carriers and routers and are happily colocating NBG-DC2.

hetzner px line , I Bought it from server auction for 30.70euro

  • @mustafamw3 said: I Bought it from server auction for 30.70euro

Looks great for the price. I was just asking casually if it comes back. I need one for long term (5+ yrs) so thinking to buy a new one.

  • Recently, I felt let down by hetzner. I've been rocking good invoices since 2021 (5 digits monthly currently). Ordering servers recently causes a manual check; usually delivery/confirmation mail comes within minutes, but recently it takes a day for someone to approve it. According to their FAQ, you can request the technicians to change the BIOS to UEFI, but when asking to do that, I get prompted to order a KVM and do it myself / request another one for each server where it has to be changed (talking about 100 servers). To get any response from the sales team, I have to wait multiple days, whether it be a simple request to approve my orders or for other questions. I'm not asking for a special treatment or to be spoon-fed, but it also doesn't feel right to me that the experience is getting "worse" the longer you are a customer/pay for their servers.

  • Will Hetzner have black friday sale this year? They didn't do it last year, did they?

To my knowledge they never had recurring discount. A few years ago they had free setup for a few models. Do not expect big discounts.

Best they do is no setup fee.

  • I'm planning to get 12500 from the auction but if they do no setup fee on 13500, I'll just wait until black friday to get it.

Contact them, they will not tell you why they disabled your account, but they may give you an option to activate it by adding money to your account. If they didn't, you are out of luck, buy it (server, not account) from a reseller is the best you can do.

That's crazy, they really want no colo clients.

At least they give the option to the client to choose another carrier, as they stated that they run their colocation data centers in a carrier-neutral manner.

What makes a good tutorial, would you say? What specific qualities do you look for? --Katie

When I was learning, it was the little things that made all the difference and made a tutorial stand out from the thousands in the crowd. Things like:

    • Having a foolproof walk through of the process with pictures/screenshots or a video demonstrating all the steps.

    • Not taking prior knowledge for granted and explaining the terminology and purpose of each feature used in the process. Many users these days are self taught with no background in computer science. So many rudimentary devops concepts are foreign to them. Not to mention the experienced folk can simply skip past these explanations. Win-Win!

    • Along similar lines, try not to use abstracted terminology and instead use simple language where possible. For example: You could explain 'wifi' as "a wireless internet connection" or "a platform agnostic interoperable wireless local area networking protocol using the IEEE 802.11 unified standard communicated over radio waves between 2 to 5 ghz". Both are correct but one is human friendly. Simple and concise parlance is key.

    • Not overly relying on acronyms. Use the full form name at least once, with the acronym in brackets before continuing to use the acronym in the rest of the tutorial.

    • Many small tutorials are better than one long tutorial. It lets the learners have small victories and pace their own progress through the rest of the tutorial list. You can also mix and combine these small tutorials as a list like: "Complete guide to hosting your 1st website" or "Learn how to build your own blog". Both of these can share components in their playlist like buying a domain, hosting, SSL etc.

    • Lastly, make tutorials for less commonly searched terms. These will lead people to your website probably more than competitive keyword topics for tutorials like HTML, SSL, FTP, etc. which have thousands of tutorials already.

Feel free to reach out to me for idiot proofing the tutorials. I still don't know a lot, so I might be a good test subject. :p

Looking forward to see great content from Hetzner :)
