  • His cheapest unmanaged vps starts at $49 monthly. For him, customer acquisition through adwords might be profitable somehow

    Over 10 years?.... erm, what?

I kept reading that and thinking the same thing.

Whois shows their domain (alpharacks.com) was registered in 2013:

    Created on 2013-07-14
    Expires on 2020-07-14

I'm not a math professor, but that doesn't look like 10 years to me.

    6 yrs ≈ 10 yrs
    yep, correct.

Honestly, if it's such a great move (business wise), why not do it yourself or have more other providers do the same?

In fact, you could (possibly) say you'd offer free matched service to all LET members who has any competitors' service + price match. I'm sure you'd acquire many customers.

Sorry you feel that i'm a moron for stating a fact that you're boasting that having a tag means something on Lowendtalk nowdays with all the CC influenced tags.

You're still going to be a moron for boasting that having a tag means something. I've yet to see you make any offer on LET.

MasonR said: For nothing? They're giving away free services that match the specs of AR customers who lost everything (duration of unused service, account credit, data, etc.). Clients are under no obligation to pay VirMach anything if they wish to cancel before the next due date. And if you think they're making any profit at AR prices, you're sorely mistaken.

Customer acquisition is the most expensive when it comes to a business.
Giving "free" service cost them literally nothing on existing servers. Especially if they are shared hosting.

Seems like you've been swindled by their "pr" as well.

Then why aren't you making a similar offer "provider" ?

My server (originally purchased under HostMyBytes) at UK (ISP: Hydra Communications Ltd, Organization: FranTech Solutions) was running fine till yesterday! And now boom, its gone.

I had like 8 more months of paid usage left. I had paid via Paypal and looks like Alpharacks guys kept my server active till the chargeback period is crossed!

This is why you use a credit card.

I whooped AR's arse by doing a CC chargeback on a $0.49/yr (!!!!) shared plan and part of a VPS.

Note: I only bought them as a joke -- I never stored anything important on there :)

No ones going to get you to price match the expensive plans. You're going to be expected to price match BuffaloHost#900 and their loss leaders.

I'm hoping the market is maturing enough to realize that such plans aren't healthy for either the customer or the provider. Costs are rising on colocation and IP addresses (for people that don't own their allocations anyway). Gear can be had on the cheap side if you're game for older generations.

I got my provider tag because I know how a hosting business is run.

All the things you've mentioned is literally nothing compare to advertisement hosting provider run on Google.

You know how much it cost for hosting in Google Adwords is?....

MasonR said: "Literally nothing"? I'm beginning to question how you have a provider tag.

There's the cost of IPs. There's the cost of support (even though it's limited). There's the cost of time to sort through all the requests VirMach will get that needs to be sorted, verified, and provisioned.

Just because they have a lot of resources that can handle an influx of new users, doesn't mean there's no cost involved. This is a good will gesture to the Low End community. Does VirMach hope to gain some paying customers in the end? Sure. Will VirMach earn some well-deserved PR from this? Sure. But calling a generous provider that's been a part of the LowEnd community and has a reputation of going out of their way to the benefit the community a scam just proves you to be a cynical and jealous person.

Maybe once you join the big boys and do more than just shared hosing you'll understand. But then again... maybe not.

Flagged for excessive incorrect use of "literally".

It's a commodity market with cost plus pricing at best. It will never improve.

Well, took him about 20 days to clear out his AR related accounts. Then closes it. Then opens a new one a day later which I am sure he was preparing during.

Classic and basic scam but people still fall for it. What can ya do.

If you don't mind my asking, how do you manage your Ads account? All by yourself, or have some agency manage it for you?

  • Up until 28th May 2019, I were employed by AlphaRacks as their Chief Operations Officer - my role in the business was to provide upper level escalated support, to maintain customer relations via email & social media channels and manage the support team. For clarity, and to not slander my former employer, I am awaiting payment for my service. Of course, along with customers who are without service they come before me in terms of their owed refund, I know from the e-mail which Julian sent out, he has said he is actively working on this.

I am unsure why new services were still being allowed to be ordered given the circumstances.

Regarding the outage, I can confirm that the servers AlphaRacks were leasing from QuadraNet are under a criminal investigation, which their CEO has stated - this reason is vague but out of respect to QuadraNet, I hope they offer a solution to AlphaRacks clients whom have lost out on not only their service but their funds. I have been assured by Julian that AlphaRacks had nothing to do with the dispute.

This posting is for clarity, RZDHosting had been setup and running long before this incident and we are more than happy to accommodate any AlphaRacks customers, potentially fulfilling their remaining time on shared and VPS products with special packages being created — where our stocks last. My former employer, AlphaRacks has zero association with RZDHosting, (based in the UK). Drop an email to [email protected]. To further add to this, RZD Hosting is under UK legislation and therefore offers a 30 day money back guarantee on all purchases.

If anybody has any questions, I can do my best to honestly answer them.

Lastly, I hope AlphaRacks customers are able to gain their data and their money back - the situation they find themselves in, is disgustingly unfair. Anybody with PayPal buyer protection or a debit/credit card should contact PayPal/their banks ASAP.
