I live in Iran. I am looking for a VPN/SSH tunnel alternative.
Hi, I live in Iran. I am now in Turkey, our neighboring country. I will return to Iran in ~40 hours.
In Iran, the following were banned:
OpenVPN: Banned.
OpenVPN TCP 443 port: Banned.
PPTP: Banned.
L2TP/IPsec: Banned.
Softether: Banned.
SSTP: Banned.
SSH Tunnel: Banned.
SSH Tunnel 443/80/53 port: Banned.
Sshuttle: Banned.
Shadowsocks: lately it's not working stable.
Squid Proxy: It's being banned by DPI in a few hours.
I want to overcome censorship. Can you help me? Like I said, I'll be back in Iran in about 40 hours. Thanks.
Babak Jahangir.

Iran is whole censured? hm...
OpenVPN over chisel websockets proxy?
Yes..
Tried RDP? Just get some cheap rdp like aruba and surf the web freely
Proxies are banned by DPI in a few hours.
Chisel is a proxy over websockets (regular HTTP traffic), it shouldn't be a problem.
RDP does not see what I need.
What is that? I do not fully understand..
Basically chisel allows you to tunnel TCP through HTTP. So you can run OpenVPN as long as HTTP traffic is allowed. As long as port 80 is unblocked, chisel will work. For better security, you can even run chisel over HTTPS.
DPI is rekt.
How can I do that? I really need it.
That makes no sense. If you can RDP to a server in a third country, then you can see anything not blocked in that country. So...?
You can find the chisel software here: https://github.com/jpillora/chisel
You need to run it on a server and a client machine.
route [server_ip] 255.255.255.255 net_gateway
to your OpenVPN profile.Ensure the
remote
andproto
options are set properly in your config. They should look like this:proto tcp-client remote 127.0.0.1 1194
I do not know if the RDP is working. Even if it works, it's useless.
Move to a better country.
I'm not sure we're communicating well. You'd have a remote desktop on a server in a different country, and you'd fire up a web browser, so that would not be useless.
But possibly Iran blocks RDP and that's what you mean.
Send him money for immigration.
) Turkey is a beautiful country but does not give a residence permit. I can not go to another country.
Not sure if I'd want to go to Turkey for political asylum, anyhow..
With RDP you should still be fine^^
)
Turkey is a much more democratic country than Iran.
It's still very, very close, though.
@fusetea: Are you trying to watch Youtube/video streams? If so then watching video over RDP might be too choppy even if its allowed in the first place.
RDP: Remote Desktop Protocol. Is it correct?
I do not think the RDP will work in Iran. I've never tried before.
@nulldev How can I install Chisel on Ubuntu 14.04 server?
@fusetea I am looking for someone to work for me.
I own a datacenter in Bursa Turkey,
As I can see you are multilingual and willing to learn and know about basic Internet stuff.
Do you want to work for a datacenter in Bursa, Turkey?
PM me your CV now and let's see if I can give you a job and setup a permanent working permit in Bursa, Turkey.
@emre It can not be said that Iran and Turkey relations are good in recent times. The Turkish state will not be very enthusiastic when it gives a residence permit to an Iranian citizen. A little hard.
@fusetea do you want a job in Turkey and live here or not ?
What I am offering you is some kind of miracle for you.
You got 40 hours to spend in Turkey and post a topic in some forum and a guy like me responded with an offer.
If you want to live and work in Turkey especially in Bursa, please do take my offer seriously.
We will see if I can setup necessary permits for you. Permits are my problem being your employer. But as usual at first I must see your CV and know more about you.
It's your decision to trust me or not...
run OpenVPN over port 80 or 443? That's what I did to get it working on my schools wifi
