  • Anyone of you who need 4814,

I ordered one accidentally which you can have for next any amount of time you need without any extra, i wouldn't mind in let them transfer ownership, but AFAIK they don't support it.

  • @Sady if you can talk support into transfering I'll take it.

  • @Sady Are you noticing weak RAID1 disk performance? Like way worse than JBOD?

jbod should be faster than raid 1 which is writing the same data twice. But if it is way worse, one of the drives might be dying and slows the other down.

@Maounique Can you take a look at these and let me know what you think:

    RAID 1: https://www.petabyet.com/result/2014-11-28-b1859f274a553bbe26f8e04f2e557e83/

    RAID 0: https://www.petabyet.com/result/2014-11-28-bea56a24bf9a509dadcb12a26cb0d07b/

    JBOD: ~90MB/s

Write speeds aren't getting at me too much, but the IOPing is ~900ms avg. And I thought it was just me, but someone else ran it on their box and got about the same 900ms avg. https://www.petabyet.com/result/2014-11-28-fc53c469013d4101f9d65387503951d4/

My guess is it's a pretty shitty RAID card?

  • rm_ said: If you have only two nameservers, having them both in the same DC is an insanity and defeats the whole point of even having multiple nameservers.

Sadly I discovered a tech company earlier on today using two name servers (ns1.tld & ns2.tld) pointing to the same IP address.

Companies can do whatever derpic shit they want, but when you do things for yourself, you gotta do it right. :)

Sadly this is an IP camera that has it's own dynamic DNS hostname hardcoded by the manufacturer.

  • Bah. Who needs redundancy?

    Hum.
    1. Bad ioping usually means the cache is deactivated in the raid card. Unless you are thrashing the disks there should not be so big differences.
    2. The difference between raid 0 and raid 1 is more than it should be for DD.
My guess is you would probably be better off with software raid.

  • I won't use RAID 0 or RAID 1 in this case. I will better have two hard disks, and a software to run auto backup for important data.

Don't a bunch of things require you to specify two nameservers? In which case, if you only have one, you need to point two entries to the same IP.

we point the NS to two different subdomain for redundancy. If both of it points to the same IP then there's no point of doing so, no?

Leaved a support ticket for them,

Will let you all know the outcome :)

I configured RAID-0 as there is nothing critical there & getting ~190MB/s.

  • @Maounique I think you're right re: Software RAID. I did some research on the card, and apparently it's a piece of crap - no write caching/bbu. http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/342020-perc-h200-performance-issues

@Sady Yeah, I'm getting 220MB/s in RAID 0 - but much prefer to run it as a RAID 1. So I'll probably do SW RAID 1, or just suffer with some performance loss.

  • Is it possible to install Centos 6.5 on this 2 euro servers?
I am reading an older thread where somebody posted a .gz image that could be used from rescue mode but the file is not online anymore.
Did anybody install centos 6 recently and could point me in the right direction?
    Many thanks in advance :)

  • I get one .

The poetic beauty of automated translation!

  • Doesn't look like any Cyber Monday stock is coming out any time soon. Although I'm not sure what time the stock for the Black Friday sale came out, older posts don't have accurate time stamps.

  • NyrNyr Community Contributor, Veteran

It's 2 AM in France still, man!

Anyway, I seriously doubt they'll add new stock for the 1,99 offer.

When I first got a 1.99 server (months ago) it was like 10-11 hours from now.

Oh, ok, thanks. I was just going off when the sale was two days ago for Black Friday, it was released around midnight GMT. The main guy mentioned some extra stock available but I'm not sure if it was stock released right after or sometime after a few days. I am looking at the sub $10 range right now and this or even the SC Gen2 seems like the best option, both of which are unavailable.

  • I snagged a KS1 from Kimsufi but I still want one of these... I can't say I even need it at this point, but for a $3 why not.

    4.99 euro or about $7 a month

The deal is really good, but I just have two problems with this server. The first and the more important reason is that I'm not too keen on going through the process of proof of verification by showing them a bank statement and my ID if there's a better alternative. The second reason is that the KS1, like the SC Gen2, is unavailable anyway so it doesn't do me too much good.

It shows unavailable on their homepage but if you use that direct link I posted above you can probably snag one. It showed unavailable on the main page but I ordered one today anyways :)

I didn't have to verify anything. But I probably will because I want to get rid of the VAT since I'm in the US.

Oh, that's pretty cool. And yeah, the link you showed works, and my current server which I got for a month expires in three weeks so I'd probably get it after that. If the 1.99 server came out, I'd blind buy this one right now which is why I'm here, but yeah, I'll look at Kimsufi and the SC Gen2 as a valid option after my month ends. Thanks.
