ColoCrossing announces a price increase for server renewals from $99/year to $149/year.

First, we want to thank you for being a valued ColoCrossing customer. We truly appreciate your business and the trust you've placed in us.

We are reaching out regarding an upcoming change to your dedicated server pricing.

Over the past several years, we've worked hard to keep our pricing consistent despite continued increases in power, labor, hardware, and other operating costs. Unfortunately, these rising expenses have reached a point where we need to make adjustments to ensure we continue providing the reliable service and support you expect from ColoCrossing.

Effective with your next annual renewal, your dedicated server base rate will be adjusted to $149.04 per year, excluding addons. This works out to only $12.42 per month (billed annually), which we believe continues to offer exceptional value for a dedicated server.

We understand price increases are never welcome, and this was not a decision we made lightly. We've done our best to absorb these additional costs for as long as possible while keeping our services affordable.

We sincerely appreciate your understanding and continued loyalty. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out.

Thank you again for choosing ColoCrossing.

Best regards,
The ColoCrossing Team

  • The price increase alone is more than the cost per month on $99 a year. Shout out to CC for their ability to monetize their old sawdust servers.

You may as well put all providers there already and save yourself some time.

If you think 1.5-2x pricing increases on hardware are to be ignored...

We're also increasing on 01-12-2026 for purchases done until 31/12/2025 with rates between 6.5% and 100% (the higher the yearly payment, the lower the increase), from the next publishable invoice, with a ceiling increase on existing pricing and a chance for existing users to renew at the existing rates during this month.

You may as well put us there already, I don't care. This list is just pedantic.

Price increases should be done only for new orders, not for existing ones. However, you feel free to increase prices however you like. It is your business at the end of the day so you may decide whatever you may; meanwhile don't forget to notify customers in advance so they may cancel the services and take advantage of the next events (like Black Friday, Christmas, New Year) in case these events come with deals.

We've done it, yes. We've notified already around November 1st/2nd (depending on the timezone) via e-mail so to give everyone time to do as they see fit, and the policy we have demands that we give around 30 days of advance warning to customers before implementing that.

But many customers will still renew normally e.g. their Black Friday services with us and have original pricing until 2027 or even go until 2028/2029 with the original pricing. And it's okay. And if they cancel and choose something else, it's okay too, though I did manage the increases in a way that still makes the service post-increase appealing, price-wise, on the present (insane) context.

I've really, really tried to only increase pricing for new services, but at the end of the day it simply can't be done exclusively. I'm sure other providers have tried that too and concluded the same. ColoCrossing's increase corresponds to the lower band of the increase I've seen on bare-metal, around 50% minimum. That's why I find this list not really fair.

If the price increases didn't occur on new hardware purchases and it was just speculation? Sure, it'd be greediness. Unfortunately, that's not the case. Usually.

Surprisingly, they seem to have sent an email giving a full quarter of advance notice, the opportunity to top up services at previous pricing, and no price increase if your purchase was within the last year.

That's not true at all. I just switched to them last black friday, was just given notice that this renewal comes at a 50% price increase after last year saying it was the recurring price. I have no opportunity to renew at the existing price.

Switched everything over since it was such a good price and was recurring, but now thinking I might see what black friday holds again. Sucks to have to switch servers again after only a year tenure but this feels slimy to me.

Tell that to the data center vendors, power companies, backbone carriers, and hardware vendors.
Hosting providers cannot continue to get squeezed from both ends...something has to give.
The only logical survival method is price increases.

We have never raised prices in 30+ years in the industry, but even we are having discussions about how much longer we can hold back from doing so, and what it would look like if we did. We still continue to do everything we can to avoid such, until which time we have absolutely no choice.

have you communicated with them? if you've only had it a year and there's been no renewal at the existing price, it certainly isn't "recurring" and i'm a little surprised they'd make such an obvious slip so i wonder if there's an error.. maybe?

I agree. And cost increases for hosts are real. But these services were offered less than a year ago, advertised as recurring. That miscalculation really is on the host.

Looking at the scale of CC, they just sold too many loss leaders, miscalculated the risk. It's on them.

Keep in mind, costs were already known to only go up over time, at the time they dropped the offer.

Thats the thing if you're a business. You take on both risk and reward. You cannot put the full burdon onto your consumer customers when things don't pan out your way.

This exactly. The problem is not raising prices. We all know that the market is hard on hosts and that sometimes you have to increase prices, but any product advertised as recurring should not be increased.

I'm not considering raising prices but I sympathize with some hosting providers that need to.

The market last year is way different than what it is today and I don't think any hosting provider could have anticipated what component pricing is and the state of LLMs today. If hosting providers had this foresight, then we would've been hoarding hardware in anticipation, but it was literal weeks where a 2x64GB DDR5 UDIMM kit went from $400 -> $1500 and the situation only really became clearer after that (where there likely won't be an end in sight anytime soon).

I'm sure a lot of these providers could have tanked small increases in hardware pricing with what has historically been normal, but the increases are very extreme. Hosting providers need to grow and be able to replace failed hardware.

Some hosting providers seem to be taking this opportunity to increase pricing for existing servers by such a high amount that I don't think is necessarily justified. I don't think CC's price increase is really unreasonable though.

It's time to change the order description from 'Annual' to 'First-Year'. We never know what's going to happen next.

I think every hosting provider offering LET rates has miscalculated the risk. Even with older hardware, infrastructure costs alone are increasing at an alarming rate.

Datacenter power and space are becoming increasingly constrained in almost every major facility, and power pricing in some major markets is approaching nearly double what it was in 2024 (if you can even secure the space and power).

Eventually, contracts will come up for renewal, and the new rates will be far from sunshine and rainbows.

LET hosting has turned into a game of how long you can absorb the cost difference before it catches up with you.

I don't know how to put it - when I bought it, they kept saying the renewal price would be the same. Now that hardware prices have gone up in the market, they started raising prices to force low-price sellers out and then selling at higher prices. A 50% price increase is really unacceptable.
