  • Has anyone tried to renew another time? My VPS it's expiring in 2028, but looks like at the moment I can renew for 3Y for the original price, it means that it will keep that price at least until 2031.

I would advise against giving a single cent to this company.

It's not stable as other providers but I'm using it as proxy/VPN, for 0,49$/month with dedicated IP and 20TB traffic I don't think that there is anything better.

With current hardware prices it's hard to beat (even back in 2024) but I have my doubts that they will survive until 2028 let alone 2031. I'd say try to grab some BF deal, there's probably a good-enough (or even better) deal from a reputable provider (if we're lucky this year tho).

Something tells me, not only the price will change....

Looking at their actual cloud vps public offers, basic plan has 1TB bandwidth, so probably it will be reduced as well

  • I have inquired about the price. The new package is doubled on the original basis. For example, my 1C1G32G package was originally priced at 24 for three years, but the new package is priced at 48 for three years

  • @angstrom @fat32 remove @MassiveGRID tag and/or ban them here. Lifetime price lock was promised.

I had a VM with them and it was unusable. It dropped every day multiple times.
If they do increase the quality, then yes, but I fear not.
I wouldn't go as far as banning anyone, they do keep the deal until it expires and the market did become shitty, but their network was always shitty, so I wouldn't cry if they would go.

    uptime
    06:17:37 up 358 days, 14:16, 2 users, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00

And 741 days to go xD

  • LET veterans, so how often does a "Patron Provider" ever get demoted, suspended or banned? Is there a consolidated public record of when and why for transparency?

    (a) you should at least wait until the actual price increase is known!
    (b) there is a post saying price will only double

Shouldn't we expect better from you than wild speculation without solid basis?

As for lifetime deal: I also do not like the fact that @MassiveGRID basically breaks their promise, but there's a big BUT: IF 50 cents more per month buys me a VPS that's kind of crappy but properly working and actually usable, (a) I'll buy, and (b) the true balance sheet here looks quite different:

either have a basically non (or hardly) functional shit-box for a super-low price that's eternal
    -or-
have a (probably still crappy but) actually usable box for double of a ridiculous and obviously untenable price

I for one certainly pick the latter, especially as at least most of us will have plenty time to actually test the new version of the box.
And if it should turn out to be a bad deal I'll simply not renew the box, nothing to lose.

@jbiloh and admin team: Please also consider the following: my take is that, yes, MG is breaking their lifetime promise - but that's basically worthless because their box is so shitty that I guess hardly anyone would renew it anyway.
The way I see it is that MG has finally seen the light and is trying hard to keep their customers by offering a deal that's a bit more "expensive" but actually provides a usable box (as they should have done from the get-go).
Do you really want to punish a provider who learned his lesson but broke a (untenable anyway) lifetime promise?

In case, in December it turns out that my take is wrong, punish them. But at least wait until the new deal is known!

Nothing's going to change, it's just a bs excuse. You keep the same plan but with 1 TB bandwidth instead of 20 TB:

They're not even active anymore, but this change is just a no-go for me. They're making changes to current contracts. That's a whole ass ban in my book.

    Now that IS something else.
But who was pushing 20 TB before? Not trying to find them an excuse, I just remember my few months with them, there were times when it would drop off completely, it appeared as offline.
So, I doubt anyone could have reached 20 TB, if someone did, then I stand corrected.

i don't think their bandwidth reset cron or w/e works (or they've disabled it on purpose) since I haven't used over 10TB the last 80 days.

I get that, I really do And I do not debate that.

What my view is based on

    • We do not know the new renewal price yet. So let's wait a month before getting heated.
    • IF the new renewal price is reasonable - in relation to the VPS we then get - I don't see a problem looking pragmatically (as opposed to legally).

Look, IMO the actual situation is that my 2 VPS (UK & DE) and my VDS (UK, much more expensive than their VPS btw) basically are hardly operational. Even 50 cents/mo is way too much and I certainly don't give a flying fuck about their "lifetime fixed price" promise

Chances are very high that I won't renew anyway, unless

    • price increase is modest AND
    • performance gets at least in between bearable and usable for small tasks.

In short IMO the lifetime discussion is practically meaningless because at the current state in boils down to "lifetime fixed price for a dump of poop".

But there is another point, and an important, albeit rarely noticed one it seems: their support is actually not bad at all. Which of course matters little in combination with a shit dump VPS - but it does (in my view) indicate something interesting: they do care, as well as they can within a tight frame of shit.

So, my take is that they seriously want to offer better (still cheap but usable) VPS (maybe new management with a functioning brain?) but they, like everyone, see significantly increased costs, so (a) there isn't much room to improve the nodes, and (b) they MUST change something to the better - or else that shit show is falling on their head. Ergo (my assumption) -> lower node occupancy, better connectivity but at a (I presume) slightly higher price.

TL;DR I get your point and do not disagree, but "lifetime fixed prices" is worthless if we only get shit for it. At the end of the day what I (and I guess most of us) want is a cheap but usable VPS.

They have just replied to my ticket that LET VPS will be migrated to 2026 Offer H/A Cloud VPS.

    Before: $23.98 for 3Y
    1 vCore - 1 GB RAM - 32 GB H/A SSD - 20 TB traffic - 1 IPv4 - 1 Gbps port

    After: $86.31 for 3Y
    1 vCore - 1 GB RAM - 32GB H/A SSD - 1 TB traffic - 1 IPv4 - 2 Gbps port
    If you want 20TB bandwidth it's $496.31 for 3Y

I get what you're saying and I can understand your view, it's logical and makes sense.
But I think what really pisses people of is the broken promise. The whole "lifetime lock, no shady hikes" or whatever their slogan was was obviously pure bullshit, and if they can blatantly lie about that what's stopping them from lying about everything else? It's the kind of thing that the internet never forgets.

If they really wanted to do the right thing, they would go out and say "Look, we know we messed up and this does not work well. We can move everyone that wants better performance to a new environment for a small increase in price. If you want to keep the price we agreed on, you can stay where you are."

If they would have made the move optional I think the reaction would have been very different. Instead of forever being stamped as a provider that breaks their promises they would have come off as a provider that really cares and tries to make customers happy.
I guess it is possible that their intentions are good and this was their attempt to fix the issues, but they handled it pretty much as bad as they possibly could.
Giving users the only options of accepting a price hike or get the f*ck out is never a good look, especially not after making such big promises.

They 'oversold' too many of these cheap boxes. Never fell for their offer, looked tempting though. Not sure how long they been in business but don't think they have that many client paying regular pricing.

Combine that with current economics, result 99% chance to Deadpool.

Of course I get that they are pissed and don't argue against that. I also do get though that their understanding (or even verdict) is, pardon me, lacking insight, in particular wrt how life and the world works.
To call MG's promise BS IMO is (a) not useful, and (b) probably not justfied; let me explain: my take - and I of course may be wrong - is that MG did not have the intention to break their "lifetime" promise, but rather were or at least felt forced to change course, IMO mainly due to two factors:

    • their (possibly new) management saw that their original plan turned out to be a massive failure and that they MUST turn it into something acceptable.
    • the market has changed a lot, which made their attempts to improve their products much more difficult, if not even impossible.

If they really wanted to do the right thing, they would go out and say "Look, we know we messed up and this does not work well. We can move everyone that wants better performance to a new environment for a small increase in price. If you want to keep the price we agreed on, you can stay where you are."

    FULL ACK.

If they would have made the move optional I think the reaction would have been very different. Instead of forever being stamped as a provider that breaks their promises they would have come off as a provider that really cares and tries to make customers happy.

Dangerous territory here because the world is full of examples for humans taking a "weird" path.

I guess it is possible that their intentions are good and this was their attempt to fix the issues, but they handled it pretty much as bad as they possibly could.
Giving users the only options of accepting a price hike or get the f*ck out is never a good look, especially not after making such big promises.

YES! I fully agree, but there's a but: we do not know all relevant factors.

Btw, they did not say "accept the higher price or get the f*ck out!". They seem to honestly strive to be as honest and fair as possible (but HAD to change course) I have seen NO indication of ill will so far.

The way I see it (granted non-emotional and pragmatic) is that all their current customers CAN KEEP their VPS for it full pre-paid term, no matter what.

This is only about AFTER that. Then we either can accept and pay the new price -or- turn around an walk away.
And we even get plenty of time to test the new VPS, so before deciding whether to pay up or to leave we get to know quite well what kind of deal we're talking about.

I get that they’re increasing their prices even though they said that they wouldn’t, I think this argument though is the weakest of the two

I think the strongest argument against them is, if I understand it right, that they’re limiting clients from 20TB to 1TB bw in the middle of an already paid for term?

Increasing the prices, especially when you said that you won’t, is shitty. Changing bw from 20 to 1 TB in the middle of an ongoing term though is insane.

they had to know it wasn't realistic or sustainable. i don't really agree with the "broke lifetime promise" bit because i [choose to] read it differently, but 4 years of service for 3 cents or whatever was pretty ridiculous.
