    The Eternal Story: TICKET 438801

I was using the file manager integrated in the seedbox panel but I kept getting errors in some situations. I drafted a report with how I was able to reproduce the errors and sent it to Vaina. In a few minutes it replied that it was indeed a bug and a fix is on the way.

I have a couple boxes with PM and sometimes it's hard for me to manage them all. I like my boxes setup in a certain way where docker is removed, some software is removed, some software is added, and so on. This would be EXTREMELY tedious for me to do manually.

I was unsure if Vaina would be able to handle it but I asked Vaina to give it a shot and analyze all of my boxes at once. I gave it extremely high level guidance on what I would like removed, what I would like added, and what settings should be changed. After <1 hour, I came back to my desk and all of my boxes were setup exactly as I wanted. This would have honestly taken me 3+ hours to do everything manually so I view this as extremely helpful for me.

    Thanks Vaina!

We actually just did internally app profiles ... hmm, i wonder if a lot of people needs this and we could just publicize app profiles, letting people to make their own, to choose their own ...

Just not on the order form, too many choices already. Every additional choice lowers conversion rate %.

In theory also always running custom script on user creation is very simple. ie. set your keys, or custom configs.

Quote this and reply below of what you think, should these exist in some manner somewhere?

I've asked Väinä to disable Docker and rTorrent on all my machines (I think) so I would see that being a good idea for sure

I believe it would be beneficial to the consumers who like to tinker around. Obviously no point having it in the order form since you would want the users to atleast see first what they need to change inside the server.
Having it per server next to the info tab or as a hotlink on the welcome page would be nice plus Vainamoinen can also do it account wide as it seems very capable for that.

Service model -> reprovision asking for app profile.
Configure screen is good too, also if profiles are jsonl, could support URL.

and if the jsonl also supports shell command hooks with variables before, after each app + in general .... that could be a serious power tool .... Imagine setting every single of your variables, configs on one go if you have multiple. and pikkumies could have a SOP to create it for you, and you can host it on one of your boxes, with the permalink URL.

Order API could also support that, so you could actually order say 15 storage boxes in one go and have them setup like you want.

Did i catch it all? Any more usability features?
Question is how many would use it.

I like this and besides using it to order 15 storage boxes I see myself using it (have a decent amt of storage already haha) and so I am thinking I'll pitch this to vainaman and see if he can find any loopholes or issues with this idea and what else can be improved on it. That reminds me I need to check in with him about 2 more issues we were working on.

I had a query about whether lingering was enabled on seedboxes to confirm that I could run user-level systemd services that would survive logging in and out. Vaina quickly came back with detailed information (that yes it was enabled by default on seedboxes but not storage boxes), and also explained in detail a caveat that may cause user services to fail but also how I could monitor and alert for this.

Yes I think this would honestly be a life saver. After your first couple PM boxes, you tend to know how you want the box to be personalized. Having a script that auto-runs would make it super easy for new purchases. I like this idea a lot!
