Looking for free 24/7 VPS for open-source project Aniraku (anime streaming platform)

Hello everyone,

I’m the developer of Aniraku, an open-source anime streaming platform.

What is Aniraku?
It’s a free, ad-free, privacy-respecting anime platform with:

  • Web frontend
  • Android app
  • Backend written in Go (multi-provider streaming with automatic fallback)

GitHub (Backend):
https://github.com/Aniraku/Aniraku-Backend
Github (Frontend):
https://github.com/Aniraku/Aniraku
Github(Android App):
https://github.com/Aniraku/Aniraku-App

Live sites:

The project is fully open-source (MIT license) and built for the community.

Why I’m posting here:
I’m from a middle-class family and currently can’t afford a proper 24/7 VPS. Aniraku is growing and now needs a stable always-on server with decent bandwidth (preferably no strict bandwidth limits or at least 2TB+).

I’m looking for any of the following:

  • Free VPS (community / FOSSVPS style)
  • Anyone who can sponsor/host the backend for a while

Specs I need (minimum):

  • 2 vCPU
  • 4 GB RAM
  • 24/7 uptime
  • Pretty much bandwidth

I’m happy to give full credit, put the sponsor’s name on the site, or help in any way possible.

Thank you for reading, and thanks in advance to anyone who can help or point me in the right direction.

Best regards,
shoislam

Do you have any user base? I think that's what matters when you seek for a sponsorship

Are you running the video side of it or just the website part? (Both?)

I don’t host any video files myself.
Aniraku only scrapes and provides working streaming links from multiple providers (with automatic fallback). The actual video streams come from the source sites.

  • So OP asking for DMCA/Copyright ignore server or you have license to stream them ? I dont think 2TB or even 20TB bandwidth can cover the user demand unless very low user count.

Yes, I already have Pretty much users.
I’m planning to open Discord and Telegram channels soon to grow the community properly.

Regarding bandwidth — yes, I do need Pretty much bandwidth because of the proxying and multiple users, but I’m not storing or serving the actual video files myself.

Scraping content and streaming it from your platform is a copyright violation. Better stream creative commons/open source videos, if you don't want to end up like the German mega upload dude.

does your patreon not make enough to buy a $5-10 vps for this ai slop?

    I understand your concern.

Aniraku does not host or store any video files. It only provides links by scraping publicly available sources, similar to how many aggregator sites work.

Most of the sites I scrape also don’t have any strict concerns about scraping.

That said, I fully respect copyright laws and I’m carefully monitoring the legal side. The project is still early and I’m focusing on keeping everything as clean and transparent as possible.

Thanks for the warning — I appreciate it.

Such obvious DMCA content shouldn't have any sponsors, right?
I advise you to switch to a provider that ignores DMCA and put up ads to generate income.

I’m currently trying to keep Aniraku completely ad-free.
I don’t host any content myself — I only scrape and provide links. The sites I scrape also don’t have scraping restrictions, so I don’t see it as hosting DMCA content.

hrm curious why do you need to proxy instead of just using the source directly?

Some of the source sites block direct embedding or have CORS / hotlink protection.

By proxying the streams through the backend, I can:

    • Make the links work more reliably
    • Bypass some restrictions
    • Keep a consistent experience for users across different providers

That’s the main reason for using a proxy.

Leaking the secret sauce makes the whole site lose its spice Gotta keep that sauce hidden
with massive TBs of bandwith upfront

    Haha, fair point.
Keeping some things under the hood does help with reliability and avoiding unnecessary blocks.
And nice work on Commonside — privacy-focused projects are always good to see.

    Thank you for the offer.
I’d be happy to discuss it via PM, as long as it’s allowed under LET rules (free/sponsorship support for an open-source project).
I’ll send you a PM now.

So you can create a detailed DMCA page on the website and make it clearly visible in the footer. The page should explain everything about the content and its sources, including that the information is already publicly available online and that the website simply brings it together in one place for easier access.

You should also explain how the website works, how sources are collected and credited,
You can also explain that the project doesn't originally produce or own the anime, how the embedding system works, where the sources come from, and how copyright owners can submit takedown requests.

Thanks. I missed the main point with a thread. Anyways, thanks!

    It Already has..

Then use an IPv6 only VPS or a NAT VPS. Most of the time, you can find one for under $10/year. Something like the one offered by @SKRIME ipv6 or @AK_KWH. for the backend

See i doesn't have money for this..

So for that, I think you need to explain more about the platform, how it works, its purpose, and everything else in more detail.

Also, if you're proxying the video streams, consider adding some limits or proper buffering. When I load an episode, it seems to download the entire episode immediately, even if I haven't watched it yet. it just a waste of bandwidth and put unnecessary load on your servers. It would be better to load only the parts needed for playback

Hmm, but why are you keeping the API publicly accessible if you're only planning to run a website and an Android app? It seems like an unnecessary waste of resources

Also, I noticed that you haven't mentioned how much you've received in donations or provided any updates about them on the website.....

Also, what do you mean by "ending credits"?
