Is the IPv4 Shortage Finally Over?

According to ARIN's latest announcement on October 7, 2026, they fulfilled 483 IPv4 waiting list requests using 577 available IPv4 blocks.
What's interesting is that there are now only 64 requests remaining on the waiting list.
At this rate, it looks like organizations applying for IPv4 space today could potentially receive their allocations as early as the next quarterly distribution, assuming sufficient blocks become available.
That's quite a change from the days when organizations had to wait years for IPv4 allocations.
What do you think? Could we see IPv4 prices and leasing rates decline if this trend continues?

Only if RIPE fixes their waitlist too, but won't defer shortage by much. IPv6 is the only future proof option.
but still you can featuring your IP ranges on https://ipye.com 🗣
nah I'm fine
@yoursunny says IPv9 is the future.
Ipv4 is fucked
Ipv6 is shit format but every cow on earth can have a subnet...
Ipv9 is the future
Oh come to think of there was something IPv8 in the drafts, what's going on with that now?
For what? You can allocate an IPv6 for each grain of sand on earth, or to every planet
in the observable universe.

Help.
That was a shitpost
I parked on 69. Waiting for yall to catch up. Hope you take forever
Too late for help my guy... too late...
Too bad we're in a two-year IPv4 contract with Prefix Broker. The exchange rate alone is paunful.
We pay them ~$600/mo for two /23s. But unlike Cogent, PB doesn't charge an abuse fee for when a malicious customer joins (not that I condone abuse, I don't).
ARIN truly came in clutch with October 7th. Our piece of the pie is 69.80.225.0/24.
I hold two ARIN /24 blocks—one of which came from the waiting list—but there appear to be restrictions preventing them from being leased out. I am considering whether or not to keep them.
I'm not aware of restrictions preventing them from being leased out, but intent to lease out the prefix can't be used as justification to enter the waiting list. Excerpt below from John Sweeting's comments at a members meeting.
Also, it's important to note that prefixes obtained from the waiting list can't be transferred for 5 years. If you don't have a need for them, and you're years from being able to transfer them, it may be worth considering relinquishing them back to the available pool so that another waiting list slot can be fulfilled.
Data point from the RIPE side, since I just went through it as a new LIR: about a year and a half of waiting for a single /24, which landed on October 5th. So the RIPE list does move, but at one /24 per new member it won't do anything to prices.
A few things worth knowing if you're still in the queue:
While the block sat unused I put an AS0 ROA on it so nobody could hijack it. Worth doing, but replace it with your real ROA before you announce, or the route is RPKI-invalid everywhere.
It's recycled space. The previous holder announced it until March, a few IPs were still on a smaller blocklist, and some geo-IP databases showed the old holder's country a week after the allocation. Check both before you put customers on it, and add a geofeed: to the inetnum.
how much for any region PI v6? any offers? asn,v4 and v6 PA already
