You should buy a dedicated server.

Instead, keep getting the cheapest VPS, so that we have a fresh drama thread every week.

Only if you pay for it 😂

Sounds like we need a LET GoFundMe: "Fund @averagedatahoarder ’s budget VPS addiction for the weekly thread content." We’ll call it research on provider fair-use limits. 🍿

VPS/VDS is a provider-specific distinction. Generically they are all just VPS.

You didn't do anything wrong by using a lot of resources on a provider that promised unlimited resources - they fucked up by making a promise they couldn't keep. But to avoid it happening again maybe mention it on your next request.

600TB of bandwidth probably cost your provider more than 100% CPU did, and that stays the same if it's called a VDS. It's not completely impossible you might find one who can give you their unused port capacity at a lowest priority - only 90% impossible. Knowing which networks you're communicating with also helps increase the chances of finding one.

20-50% steal means you were renting a CPU in a timeshare. If you need 100% all day, get a VDS with dedicated cores written in the plan, or cap yourself with cpulimit and stay under the host's radar.

Do homelab, then serve it through your 10gbps residential connection (hopefully lower than $100)__

Even a home residential network has an unspoken FUP.

My old ISP used to have a leaderboard to show which users were doing the most TB a month...

Well I was suspended (probably fairly) from my VPS provider for using 100% CPU, unsuspended quickly.

But then I checked and CPU steal was 20-50% (not throttled), honestly not going to complain about it nobody else matches their price.

But, I'm a bit tired of this constant search for a VPS that can satisfy my bandwidth/CPU requirements. Should I just get a VDS at this point?

Folks are telling me to get a dedi but that isn't possible for me. Maybe I should just give up

You just need a better deal buddy!

From spec's i've seen better prices are out there, I have a 6 Core 9950X with 100TB/Month for $55/year and I know many more like this :disappointed:

Also, why not just enforce a CPU limit on ur application / machine? atleast it will still run I assume it wouldnt cause massive issues in ur use case

I could colo as colo costs would not be an issue -- but would be nearly impossible to get 10Gbps transit without paying an arm and a leg

That's the issue, you are basically asking providers to donate a few hundred dollars a month to you...

More like he is trying to find a provider to ample usage based on there typical allowances and contracts. Easy no? trying to get providers to donate to him little bit of a stretch.

This entire forum survives of people searching for providers excess.

I use very little BW so I have 5TB/month even 1TB/month servers, but with others just included in the deal is 100's of TB's at the spec, I don't use it but it's there. You know like everyone else there are countless providers based on their niche / customer base that have AMPLE of such resources where a few high-usage users is fine. Not every provider but some will have userbase of low BW consumption and could easily take on OP or would let OP stay but much less will willingly bring them on-board knowing the usage I think is his biggest issue.

  • Not sure of the new pricing these days but my netcup VDS’s have been pretty decent

Maybe you can get a cheap OVH dedicated server from someone that has at least a 10g down.

    Guess that’s the tradeoff.

Their servers don't even work, not really fair to call it a tradeoff

It's also not really fair to pay peanuts and expect premium services and a cup of tea too

Get a few LE-B for 9.99$/m you can max out the ports 500mbit upload / 1gbit download 24/7 without issues, if you judt need the bandwidth you should be able to get a few of the standard delivered ones pretty easily on here

It comes in stock like once a week, but usually at 2-3 am. You may need to set up a notifier though
