Should I just get a VDS

Well I was suspended (probably fairly) from my VPS provider for using 100% CPU, unsuspended quickly.

But then I checked and CPU steal was 20-50% (not throttled), honestly not going to complain about it nobody else matches their price.

But, I'm a bit tired of this constant search for a VPS that can satisfy my bandwidth/CPU requirements. Should I just get a VDS at this point?

Folks are telling me to get a dedi but that isn't possible for me. Maybe I should just give up

  • Or just switch to a provider that doesn't suspend you for something like this, or at least notifying you in 24h in advance.

And are there any such providers that I can afford? None allow me to fully utilize CPU / bandwidth / etc. at a reasonable rate. Where can I find such a provider?

What do you get and pay for now

Isn’t OVH VPS something people usually recommend? https://www.ovhcloud.com/en/vps/

The lowest your gonna get true 10gbps unmetered is over $500/mo for any decent blend, maybe less on single homed cogent/gtt or on an oversold network.

Do homelab, then serve it through your 10gbps residential connection (hopefully lower than $100)__

Even a home residential network has an unspoken FUP.

Remember that on a 'VDS', you still share RAM, storage I/O, and network connectivity with all of the other users. If you are even lucky enough to get 100% CPU without any steal time, it still will not perform as good as an equally spec'd dedicated server.

  • If you're just gunna be a cheap hoodrat neighbor, you might as well just get a dedi.

  • why not some cheap old ovh dedicated server for 9.9 - 19.9 eur range? kimsufi?

I could colo as colo costs would not be an issue -- but would be nearly impossible to get 10Gbps transit without paying an arm and a leg

Do you think providers get them for free?

That's the issue, you are basically asking providers to donate a few hundred dollars a month to you...

It really depends on the ISP. Check opengw, many people are pushing near-gigabit or multigigabit connection. I'd recommend getting through a T2 subsidiary instead of small ISP.

I have laid the path with the assumption your country have cheap 10gbps ftth.
But as you said, 10gbps dedicated transit isn't cheap, that's also true for established providers. Do you think business would voluntarily lose income because you're using lots of BW? I assumed you understand the "How do you feel if you haven't had breakfast?" and the subsequent "I don't know, I had breakfast" retort

I believe he's meaning you still share the same physical RAM, CPU, etc

No? The D in VDS is for dedicated. That's why I never mentioned storage or the network because it's a shared port and not dedicated.

Im aware most of the resources are dedicated, but your still on the same physical hardware as other people, therefore your still sharing the physical processor itself and the physical memory, etc

It's the memory bandwidth that is shared, not the memory itself (unless there's ballooning).

We made a fair offer, Skrime was cheaper so went with them and faced issues within the week

You will be best to aim lower with 1G if you have minimal budget or get multiple smaller servers

to my experience a vds is not worth the extra money. I'd rather buy some extra vps-es for the money saved.

As I mentioned in our messages, I know your services are better, I've worked with you guys before and know what I'd get. My budget is simply quite low atm

  • Oh yeah, forgot to mention, got kicked off of Feral Hosting for my resource usage a few months back. Though, I did not use more than they advertised as available for my plan for extended periods of time :/

You'll simply never find a provider who can do what you want for that price.

You need to get a bigger budget.

OP should not get a VDS.
Instead, keep getting the cheapest VPS, so that we have a fresh drama thread every week.
