They let you create subaddresses though. From https://disroot.org/services/email:

The plus sign ("+") can be used as a delimiter in your email address to create sub-addresses, e.g. [email protected]. This can be used, for instance, to filter and track spam.

  • some of these recommendations come from the same circle as autistici... not that i hope the same fate befalls them as it did autistici, but my warning stands: avoid political internet service providers, no matter which side they are on.

yeah, but + addressing doesn't really mask the real address like an alias does.

Everything is political though. Privacy itself is political. Politics that align with the government usually don't count as "politics", so if you avoid "political" providers that leaves you with "non-political" providers that track everything you do and build profiles on you.

...and i bet even these providers create profiles. some of them even advertise that they don't want users who hold opposing political views. and how do these political providers verify people's political views? they cant read peoples minds, after all. so that probably leaves only primitive solutions -> scanning and monitoring emails.

The same way that Codeberg detects if someone is vibecoding: don't worry, they'll tell you.

A/I supposedly had a textbox asking you whether black lives matter. If you answer "yes, all lives matter" then you don't get to have an account.

That sounds like a hoax. I never saw that, and they're Italian and not American anyway.

For as long as I've known, they've only had a free-form "explain why you want to have an account" text box.

It's not like people who hate what A/I stands for would want to use them in the first place, no more than I would want to create a [email protected], even if it's free.

They don't need to deeply verify that everyone agrees with them on every point, they just want to reduce the risk that people will misunderstand what they stand for.

FFS. Crying racism for shit like this is hurting identification of actual racism.

Discrimination against a racist is just prejudice, not racism.

    oh, i see. well, then.

  • @TimboJones said: Discrimination against a racist is just prejudice, not racism.

Strictly speaking, discrimination against a racist due to their race is racism, but discrimination due to them being a racist is (arguably justified) prejudice.

  • @forest said: I really hope that's true.

They want this money gone asap, its a liability

  • Looks like https://inventati.org is now down as well, as expected. Domain resolves to the expected IP but ports 80 and 443 refuse connections (22 responds with an SSH banner so the server is technically still up).

https://keepitfree.ai may have news about that shortly.

  • What was the mail service? I never heard.

It was a free left-wing Italian email service similar to Riseup that promoted privacy and anonymity.

  • According to Dutch newspaper NRC, Dutch police has seized a server of A/I in Amsterdam, made a copy of it's disk(s) and gave that copy to some US institution that had requested it on legal grounds.

A/I said that the contents of the server was encrypted and didn't contain sensitive information.

  • Italians never resisted to something why people think autistici will resist to Uncle Sam😂

  • i really hope no one gets any uninvited visitors at home anytime soon. are all your storage devices securely encrypted?

    Thanked by 1OpaqueRegistrant

sure sure, everyone is encrypting everything

That's like... the third time that happened. Both other times the result was the same: FDE prevented access.
