No, he intentionally blocked AVS ISP as punishment for their founder doing something unethical (but unrelated to email).
I'm happy with them making estimates about how likely it is that incoming email is spam, but I don't want them to intentionally drop upcoming invoice notifications from a service in hopes that I'll get mad at that service.
I have services with iHostArt. I don't want my email provider to block invoice notifications from them just because Calin is sketchy. I have services with Pfcloud. I don't want my email provider to block emails from them just because Pfcloud is lax about crime on their network. Hell, I even have a service with VeloxMedia, and I even want their email to arrive.
I only want them to block email that they, in their best judgement, believe I don't want to receive (i.e. spam). I don't want them to be a judge of character to ensure that I can only receive email from people that they do not consider bad.
Simulation was purely to test system's. we done this and we stayed with the same provider after discussion for live-deployment.

People use, ppl can be compromised, hijacked, or simply send slop. IP rotation must occur, monitoring of lists must occur you cannot simply rely on your own spam filter no matter how much you have tested.
As long as you are not a spammer,for self-hosting email solution is very easy.

I put MXRoute in the bog-standard, no frills category since they seem to have a traditional offering which doesn't emphasize privacy if at all. Which isn't to that it's insecure, only that they don't emphasize data protection the same way Proton or similar email hosting does. That said, I deeply appreciate their storage-based pricing. It's very fair. I also love the new (to me) website design. Good use of negative space for readability.
And @s0n1c I recently did a deep dive into a replacement email services for my current host and I would suggest the only one with ~comparable pricing is Mailo.com, specifically their Premium tier at €1.50/mo/mailbox.
i deployed several mailcow-dockerized instances for my client on standard vps with mail port allowed, they uses SES/mailgun/resend as smtp to send emails. works just fine on production term.
maintenance/upgrade is easy to do.
there's also bayesian filter on rspamd if you want to put your own training spam email filter, it sucks at catching incoming spam at first but with continous training eventually it only catch the obvious one. being able to define your own spam filter pattern is a nice thing to have if you got the human resource that understand your specific attack vector.
around ~100 employees email run just fine on 4vcpu 8gb ram 1tb disk. email being used either from SoGo webmail or just email clients like outlook / thunderbird. minimal downtime so far (unless their upstream provider got a maintenance or something), never about mailcow components suddenly failing to run
