0 f's given. He dropped some crooks for BGP hijack - win for me. Does 99.7% of mxroute clientele cares for this? Nope.

Did I stopped using Cloudflare when they thwarted their "free internet" agenda, after removing some questionable websites? Nope.

Does anyone stopped using hosthatch because the owner is self-proclaimed "black box personality"? Yes, it was me.

MXroute is the best option (in features, limits and deliverability) for given price. Being 0.3% essentially changes nothing.

IMHO, it's not really a big deal he dropped a potential crook network. The way he handled that... shit!

I just remembered the Asylum from Batman: Arkham Asylum... idk why... just flashed in my mind while writing this comment.

I'm happy for you that you enjoy his decision, which is totally fine if he did announce that thing prior. Seeing that the message was a deed done, he did open himself up for legal liabilities, even being so bold to announce the intend.

Now, as customer, you're still fucked. I couldn't be arsed to unfuck the situation he potentially would have put me in. I couldn't change my email, password or as said receive payment reminders.

I'm not sure how anyone would be able to conduct business with them if your favourite™ service might be next at any second.

Here I use the Free DNS service just because I am too lazy to setup a DNS cluster myself.
I believe I also integrated some captcha from them, as Google went nuts lately... giving legit users 50 captchas to solve.

Let's not judge a book by its cover. Yes, the manager is as he is, but the service is good. I have the power to separate the character of the manager from the business; besides I don't marry the guy, I merely use the services of a business which can also be sold when the manager has had enough.

The worry is that his personality bleeds into his service, not that anyone is trying to boycott the service because they dislike his personality. I forget who said it, but someone here said they like their business associations to be "boring", and I have to agree. Nothing against jar though (we're on good terms now), but I would feel uncomfortable using the service myself due to the possibility of some provider I use having their invoices dropped because they got in a fight with him.

Forest said it well, the business is him they are one in the same, it's his only passion it's his entire life when he has a meltdown so does the service.

Difference to Forest, is F jar, little baby blasting rants and people's personal emails all over the internet to judge them. I never sign-up due to a singular conversation I had with him regarding inbound spam being removed from my account entirely. Complete pissy fit assumed the worst banned my IP from the site... Like I give a f or couldn't change it.

Hope to god someone in your business is not compromised, or send a few to many emails one-day he's known to completely remove your account not just disable with no hopes of discussion.

I said earlier I never spoke to the man, which I thought was true until I checked the conversation and it was Jar, I assumed it was just a support tech lol.

Feel free to decide if you use their service or not. It is your payment and your invoice and your decision and your freedom. There are other providers out there too; the world does not begin or end with MXRoute, nor with Jarland. At the end of the day you should never pay for services that don't make you happy.

[...] due to the possibility of some provider I use having their invoices dropped because they got in a fight with him.

This would be the issue of that provider to address in such case. If they don't feel happy with the services, they can also look for another email provider themselves.

Again: I wish to separate Jar from MXRoute. I had my own difficulties in understanding this manager, but he does bring good service when he wants to. In my opinion he should sell the business if his mind can't take it anymore. Maybe now would be a good time, since many people are already in huge economic problems and he might need a vacation too.

Absolutely. I'm just stating my personal opinion, not trying to tell others to stay away or anything. Some people don't mind email being a little "exciting" or unpredictable. Others prefer that it's "boring". I prefer boring, but that doesn't mean I can speak for everyone.

I would also like to, but its harder for others due to him using MXRoute to attack others. Just taking the latest case, to me, there is a difference between snapping back if someone is being annoying (being human) and using your company to make discount codes to humiliate them (thats bringing the company into it and being malicious).

MXRoute is a fantastic service, the are super long on the market and have very good staff, human support. I don't know Jar personally but I know he knows his stuff.

When you are against MXRoute because you think Jar is a strange person or you don't agree with him. Just ask youself the simple question: Why do you use Windows or MacOS or Gmail or whatever big tech tools and apps? Do you agree with all of them 100%?

Yes, I believe this logical narrative is more significant than one might assume. Jar himself has demonstrated how his emotions are inextricably linked to MXRoute; as outsiders, how could we possibly separate the two?

This has nothing to do with whether or not you marry Jar, but everything to do with whether you choose to consider or continue using MXRoute as a product or service.

  • I still have 15€ mail budget per month and cant find anyone to replace Google, now with very reasonable Gemini limits a EU workspace subscription (Data in Germany, Billing in Ireland, Gemini in AMS) is an absolute nobrainer - Mxroute would be my choice feature wise but ah its US based which comes with bonuses and tradeoffs.

I found no EU provider with reasonable all around service and rather dont self host in like CH or so.

    Massive yay for mxroute.

Jar, should ignore any sort of online drama and focus on his company. He has a solid company and product.

I have a different opinion. If you asked me around 3 years ago, should you self host
your email, my answer would be definitely no, go with reputable providers, unless you
fully understand the modern SPF/DKIM/DMARC stack. But today? I'm not a big LLM user,
but makes me think that for a few tokens you can ask AI to setup a drop-in mailbox for
you, based on the stuff you need (Mailcow etc).

I think its not the technical aspect to setting up mail that's really the issue. Its deliverability. For incoming mail, no problem. But will you go through the expense and trouble of securing your own clean /24 and having enough legit volume and dealing with the big mail providers to get your mail delivered.

Really? I hate it, the new site feels like an old Blesta theme. it's like the site went 20 years back in time.

you cant tell me with a straight face this looks better

  • @forest said: no customers of AVS ISP are able to receive invoice notifications to mxroute

Disabling the AI spam filtering should help with that.

But then you also need to keep your email address private or JS-encode it on publicly accessible pages.

Won't work well with guessable addresses like info@, sales@, contact@ though.

  • zedzed Veteran

@forest said: In my personal opinion, while blocking spammers and other high-risk networks is fine, I really don't like the idea that customers are being used as pawns to punish unrelated networks because jar has a moral disagreement with the operator.

i kind of agree with jar's sentiment because that avsisp guy is just sleazy in general while at the same time i can't afford for my mail provider to make that choice for me.

except i'm ok with them making that choice re spam..

I'm using mxroute and namecrane - both are working perfect for me. Using Amazon SES for my bulk sending though. This setup is great

Personally, I don't care if @jar is a cranky old man that yells at kids who are on his lawn, or sacrifices kittens to the email gods - the service is what matters. He puts alot of pride into his system (as does namecrane) and it shows
