Right now I just use namecrane. I used to use tuta but got annoyed by how slow it is just load my inbox.
I was using them for a secondary email a few years ago, and then they had downtime lasting days and then I decided I will never touch them again.
Is namecrane better than disroot? I've heard namecrane has frequent issues.
indeed not ideal... tuta and other (supposedly secure) providers rely on closed systems and do not adhere to universally accepted email standards such as IMAP, POP, and SMTP.
I dislike those "secure" email services like Tuta and Proton. I'd much rather just use GnuPG rather than having to trust that they'll always serve me non-malicious JS.
A question if those individuals migrated to namecrane or mxroute using cheap XYZ domains, will the government sanction those as well and since both have US as business bases are we looking at some serious legal trouble?
Proton has it in a way. You need a paid plan and you have to use their gross "mail bridge" software, but it's better than nothing.

i'm aware of that. but it's a workaround, not a widely accepted email standard, and who knows exactly what this bridge does. if you want to use it, go ahead. i wouldn't recommend it.

Seems they don't accept cryptocurrency either, so I registered with disroot. I'll have to wait up to 48 hours to get the account request approved, though.

for a long time the internet was a safe harbor for political activism, now its getting hammered from all sides.
Blame the US misusing sanctions over and over.
We should blame all governments not celebrating freedom of speech on the net.
I traveled the world and all governments have more or less some form of internet censorship. Its sad. Thats why i hope alternative web will join forces and make the net anonymous again.

It is always about trust, with everyone, including your favorite political email providers.
Hence the reason to use GnuPG.
