More like a 16 to 20 hour drive sincerity ( Athens ).
Yet by plane it is ~5H, and yes, Kerosene is expensive also.
So that IPv6 special VPS I stole from everyone and made everyone mad... is going to go poof as well...
You stated your opinions multiple times over the past few months. Your move was expected. You also offered some time in announcements, allowing time for people to migrate. The community always appreciates openness and time provided to look for other offers and deals.
Meanwhile please note just a small few of your customers are active on LET, while many of your offers were grabbed from other forums or sources. Also many people use multiple email addresses and don't check them regularly, relying on automated payments which were already configured in client area.
The true fun is not now, but later when customers are automatically charged +400% or +500% for renewals.
Right now we are just enjoying a small bit of popcorn while cancelling and looking for refugee deals. But later comes the beer with more popcorn and with butter too.
Yupp, they will puff at billing end.
if you have more then 1 service, why you don't open a ticket and see what you can get in that budget, if you so desire.
Now, we did not run 100 filters to see each user how many services it has, it would had taken us days to do that, but if you have more then one service, ticket Stu and see what can be made for you.
We've moved everything off over night and I'm about to wipe the VPS and just let it idle until the cancelling ticks Feb 7th.
I've just cancelled the FAT32 Piko v6 to end at the end of the billing date as well.
I'll be very frank. This is just going to make me self invest in my own location. I just got 2G symmetrical and I'm upgrading the core networking. Then I can scale out with infra as needed. Having a location in Romania that was actually neat but was also useful, was nice for a while, especially since I won that Storage VPS. However I need to think realistically and practically. I have 2G symmetrical and I have the knowledge and the talent. Why not put money and time into that?
Been great hosts Andrei and Stu. Maybe one day we can your customers again.
From the Yakushima org with love. 💜
You are right.
Unfortunately, there is no reliable way for me to distinguish active LE* members from those who simply found and purchased the deals through LE* or other sources.
We genuinely looked for a way to identify them because I sincerely wanted to make a more community-friendly-offer especially for the active members I have grown fond of over the years.
I genuinely like the people here ( well most of them
).
However, since applying such an exception fairly and reliably is nearly impossible, the same standard rules must apply to everyone.
Regarding customers who registered with fake or rarely monitored email addresses, I have repeated this countless times over the past two years: customers must provide accurate account information and maintain a working email address.
We have reminded users of this on numerous occasions. We can send notices through the registered contact channels, but we cannot ensure that someone regularly checks an address they chose to provide.
Everything is fucked right now my mortgage has gone from 3.1% to 5.4% and thats considered a good rate right now...
I love that you found something positive in all of this. Not all bad news leads to bad outcomes, sometimes something good comes out of the bad.
Old ways won't open new doors.
PS:
The only exception from the IPV6 Rule, damn these exceptions
, is the following service:
LET 15th Anniversary IPV6 NVME VPS – HOST-C Edition
The rest will puff into oblivion or be migrated to something alse, or get assimilated by the BORG.
LMAO. Guaranteed drama because there's people who didn't check their email for 2 years
https://lowendtalk.com/discussion/217855/crunchbits-behavior/p1
I will only reply in memes on that, or not replay at all sincerity, we have other more important stuff to do then babysit a 14 year old, he has parents for that.
I think it is time for some to own the fact that if you registered with fake data, you don't have "rights" to wine.
Actually they do have rights, because they paid. Their money was good when you needed it. Well guess what: you changed the rules, now you must babysit!
Nop, i do not have to babysit, finally something we don't agree upon.
If we cannot reach someone because they registered with a fake or unmonitored email address, that is not our responsibility.
Here is the problem:
If we set every affected service to terminate automatically at the end of its current term, the reaction will be: “HOST-C deleted my service!” We have already seen how that plays out, both with us and with other providers.
Instead, we announce the renewal change in advance and allow the service to continue automatically. Anyone who does not accept the new renewal price can simply press the cancellation button before renewal. Then the complaint becomes: “I used a fake email address and did not see the notice.”
Do you see the impossible situation? Whichever option we choose, someone will complain. However, responsibility for maintaining accurate contact information and monitoring the registered email address belongs to the account holder. That is a normal requirement for any subscription-based service.
A provider cannot reasonably be held responsible when a customer deliberately supplies false contact information or uses an address they never check. By doing so, the customer accepts the obvious risk that they may not receive important account, service or billing notices.
Payment grants the right to use the service under the applicable terms for the period already paid. That period and its price remain unchanged. Renewal is a new billing period, and there is no promise that the previous promotional price will remain available indefinitely.
We have had this discussion before.
From $54/yr to 149,51/yr. Totally insane. Unfortunately, cannot afford.
Starting to move storage and cancel it.
Thank you for this years of service, Host-C!
See you on the other side, thx once again for the 2y run. I'm sorry my income didnt grow 3x in a 2year span also.
im pretty sure you will get to decommissioned way more than you think/planned
try TEMU, for only 3 extra Euro you probably can get them cheaper
Hi,
haha that made my day...
"you tought thats worst? Now wait for the next round
"
I hope this way a long term stable service can be established!
Good luck with the transition!
Starting to worry this will hit @layer7 too. Of course, everyone got hurt, but hopefully not this hard.
I pre-charged a few years of credit for renewals, but my balance can't even cover a single year under the new pricing. Is it possible to switch to a shorter billing cycle to use up the remaining credit?
Anyway, thanks for respecting the BF party prices for as long as you did and for the sweet 2-year run.
HOST-C
WE
open a ticket for this.
Hi,
yeah, my wife gave me already angry looks why i dont raise prices if everyone does... i guess i am just the worst business man around, even more these days.
There are no plans to raise prices for existing customers. As long as the running cost do not raise ( too much ) i will also not raise prices. Yes hardware goes up. But how often does a good quality enterprise disk give up? If your calculated margin cant take a price increase to replace a single drive in 1-2 years then well, maybe you are doing something wrong.
For me the current price raise is just the companies jumping on the $$$ train started by the chip vendors. Perfect excuse to raise prices -- no matter if really justified or not.
While especially for @host_c -- from my personal perspective -- this is more like bringing reality to prices. A 7 / year server is under no pricing sustainable. Not today. Not 5 years ago.
So no one need to wonder that this kind of contracts die out now. At some point the provider has to make money. Host_c is pretty new, and from what i saw so far in the forum, delivers good service. He attracted customers with low prices to get known in the market. Thats pretty normal for new comers. Nothing wrong with that.
But at some point it must be allowed to actually start making money. And thats what you can see now with @host_c
To enjoy a good service but not to be ready to pay for it a fair price is as much shitty like providers raising prices in the middle of the contract or changing prices for "lifetime" price lock offers -- going around the tricky way by just deciding the lifetime ended by facing out the product...
Another question is where a fair price starts and where it ends. Thats actually a personal decision for every customer.
If you like the service you receive. And if you look around and see that other providers will not ask for significantly less money for the same or similar service, then i think its a strong sign for a fair price.
Yet another question is, if you personally think that service X should actually be charged that high. -- I also ask myself why the german car vendor's think their cars are actually worth that price they ask for.
tldr:
Layer7 wont raise prices as long as running cost dont raise.
If you want to enjoy good service and if you are happy with it, maybe you should not cry that who ever gives this service want to live from it.
If you ask yourself if the new pricing is fair, look around if the same/similar service is somewhere else significantly cheaper. If not, then its a strong sign for a fair new price. --And before was just charity from @host_c you should just be thankful for.
When I started buying a lot of VPS last November and playing with self hosting, I only had DSL and Cable available at my house. Since then, three different providers have run fiber to my neighborhood, and one is offering 10gb symmetrical. I already have a server. I just need to invest in some hard drives and upgrade from 1gb switches to at least 2.5g. Then I can get rid of all my VPS except for a handful to use as VPN endpoints. That's my plan anyway, as things look like they're going to get worse before they get better.
Unfortunately, if you’re the only one offering significantly lower prices, then the “perfect excuse” isn’t justified.
Oh boy, now I'm regretting cancelling most of my promotional VPSes. I don't have many fallback VPSes left if Host-C ends up raising their prices this much.
P.S. Do we have a list of providers that are still honoring their promotional pricing? They're the real 🥇 in today's market. 😂
@layer7
Thanks for the input.
For those who may not have known us since 2023, we had two realistic options when entering this market: spend heavily on advertising through Google, Facebook and similar platforms, or invest approximately the same amount in aggressive promotional discounts.
The decision was mine, and I chose the second option.
That brought us a rapid influx of customers, not all of it was green grass and sunshine
. However, it also gave us the customer base needed to scale quickly, gain experience and improve our operation.
Those promotions were intentionally priced as customer-acquisition offers I will not say otherwise. The mistake was allowing some of them to continue for too long without a proper path toward realistic renewal rates.
Naturally, I would have liked to see more satisfied customers sharing their experiences on Trustpilot and other review platforms. The services were often provided at barely more than zero cost while maintaining good performance and service quality. If you search this forum or OGF, you will find very few complaints about CPU steal, poor performance or the other compromises commonly associated with extremely cheap VPS products, even regarding the $1-per-year promotions, which will reach the end of their lifecycle this year.
Would I choose the same strategy again? Hard no. It achieved its original purpose to some degree, but it also created problems that we now need to correct.
If you are satisfied with the service, consider the new price fair compared with the available alternatives and wish to remain, you are welcome to stay. Nothing will change regarding the quality of the service.
If the new price no longer makes sense for your use case, that is entirely understandable, and you are free to cancel and move elsewhere. There are no hard feelings, never were.
For anyone worried that HOST-C is about to disappear: this change is being made precisely to ensure that the operation remains financially sustainable. We are not dependent on continuing loss-making plans merely to survive, and we are prepared to give HOST-C the time and resources required to grow properly.
You hear the man, @AlteredParadox
And my following is not related to us in particular.
I see a general thing and not just here on LET.
I see a lot of folks here getting a lot of awesome deals. Yet, when I look at review sites, I rarely see a good word about those providers, especially the newer ones.
New fella enters, most do detective, outcome: not even 3 reviews on a website, well, if no one gives, who will write it? AI?
It seems like this community is forgetting to give something back to those who actually put their money where their mouth is.
Folks, give and receive, it is a two-way street. Or are most people here only for the popcorn?
, if yes, fine with that too.
A community will never receive anything good if it gives nothing back to those making the offers. The same goes in life — and that last part is for the 14 year olds here reading this.
Yes. Who doesn't like popcorn? Anyway, setting up trustpilot account now
Don't forget the beer
( or any other poison you might choose ).
Either way, back to mail-sending......
