@host_c said: the promotional price was the only meaningful factor, while the provider and the service behind that price received very little attention.

Well, I am not paying $123.20 USD/year (this is what I currently see in the control panel) for a 2GB memory VPS. Not to you, not to anyone. That would just be an extremely stupid thing to do, no matter who the provider is.

You may complain that clients only care about price and not about the provider's sustainability, stability, etc... but in my eyes, price is also part of stability, part of being hosted with "serious" hosting company. I mean, I can accept some price increases from time to time, but that's something like 20% and not 780% like in this case.
This is basically the host showing me, in his own silly way, the door.

Not complaining, just commenting - one idler less, I guess. :)

@brauni said: The price shown there for the old / existing service is the list price, even though many of us here are paying promotional prices, which are much lower.

I might have misunderstood your question. Let me clarify:

The price shown in the email is the renewal price for the replacement service, including the 20% HOST-C customer discount and based on the corresponding billing cycle. ( we shoed all available billing cycles, in case you as customer wish to change that )

The amount you currently pay for the promotional service that will be decommissioned or upgraded is already visible in your client area and on your invoices. Since you already know the service name and its current price, we did not believe it was necessary to repeat that information in the email.

Furthermore, we sent a separate email for each affected product type. Therefore, if you have two, three, or four different promotional services, you can review the available replacement options individually and decide which, if any, you wish to keep.

Including both the existing promotional price, the replacement product’s list price, the discounted price, and the applicable billing terms would have added unnecessary complexity and likely resulted in even more support tickets asking for clarification.

Also, if you have a large number of services, open a ticket and choose to keep one while letting the other-ones go.

For the moment we managed to modify recurring services values, in the next days the naming of the product will also be modified.

WHMCS is very limited in scheduled modifications unfortunately, so this was the only way we can do it, also, this is one of the reasons we will let go of WHMCS very soon. I find it to be the worst billing software on the planet.

123.2 USD / Year is not for the promo one, it is for it's replacement, I think at that value it is the IO-200

    IO 200 - NVME VPS - G2
    VPS Specs fully Configurable!
3 vCPU Xeon Scale Generation 2
    8 GB DDR4 RAM
    200 GB NVME Storage
    1 Dedicated IPV4 IP
    1 Dedicated /64 IPV6
    1 Free Backup Slot Included
    Port Speed 1 GBPS
    High-Speed Included Traffic - 4T

If you had the ALFA 159, that had these specs:

2 vCPU Xeon Scale Gen 1 ( later migrated to scale gen 2 )
    3 GB DDR4 RAM
    180 GB NVME Storage
    1 Dedicated IPV4 IP
    1 Dedicated /64 IPV6
    Port Speed 1 GBPS
3TB Internet Traffic, 50 MBPS after depletion

Just one thing I would like to mention. Asking 7 bucks per month for 1 TB storage and offering only 3 TB BW is laughable. And also offering 1 core and 2 RAM is absurd.

    I had

1 vCPU Xeon Scale Gen 1
    2 GB DDR4 RAM
    100 GB NVME Storage
    1 Dedicated IPV4 IP
1 Dedicated IPV6 IP, /64 upon request via ticket
    Port Speed 500 MBPS
3TB Internet Traffic, 50 MBPS after depletion ( more can be bought at check-out )
    Location: Oradea City, Romania

    $16.80 USD (with vat)

But like I said, I am not complaining. I am just commenting that I am not paying $123.20 USD/year for a 2GB memory VPS from anyone. That's in the range of my super stable 8GB memory VPS from Netcup after they raised the price.

So after the price increase in january https://lowendtalk.com/discussion/comment/4719347#Comment_4719347

we continue with the next round only 6 month after?

also 2/5 of my services just get canceled?
(including the JabJab Special that was sold December of last year lol)

I am very much over this provider at this point, its just not worth the hassle to keep up with the non stop changes of lineups, EOL, price increases, CPU changes and so on. Pretty sure i have more mails from host-c alone than from all my other idlers combined.

What i will never understand is how this provider is getting so much hype around here, but I might just have missed the golden days ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Also only listing the Current list price for the service in the email and not what the actual deal was (what is actually being paid) is dishonest af

    image

and don't even get me started on the whole "recurring" debate

    rinse and repeat. nothing new.

welp, at least now I got some use for the 2 idling 16TB disks I bought two years ago for $100 each.

hope none of them fail anytime soon :/

I highly recommend to use the cancellation button, as prices for recurring invoices will get updated starting today.

I pre-charged a few years of credit for renewals, but my balance can't even cover a single year under the new pricing. Is it possible to switch to a shorter billing cycle to use up the remaining credit?

Anyway, thanks for respecting the BF party prices for as long as you did and for the sweet 2-year run.

    open a ticket for this.

Opened! Already getting it sorted via support. Thanks!

@host_c said: As in general, depending on your service, storage wise, you end up on the 2.5-4 USD / TB / MO at current market prices.

My '20% discounted replacement' actually comes out to >$4.05 before taxes. With this, even hetzner storage boxes are cheaper.

I had this insane "Pegasus 0312 - 20TB Storage" deal, and a $100 discounted idler, can't complain really, good run.

Anyway, if you know any ~10TB storage offers, send lmk.
