Sure, will I get a bonus in exchange?
My cousin, crown prince in Nigeria will provide $500 million to you
Your cousin is crown prince of Nigeria? Could you please ask his lawyers to stop contacting me?
Start building @HostDZire . We will all lose something, more or less... but learn your way up. Even if TOS says its not your reponsibility, one fortnightly / monthly backup to an offsite location would have really saved a lot of reputation.
Anyways... focus on bringing the servers up and letting us all restore our services.
I respect that.. Specially if you think backups are file level (ie. restic for example). But also respectfully you obviously do not know how ZFS snapshots work and what my suggestion is. You can say "no RAID, no Backup, no this or that" in AUP and have users deal with it..
But you can not say "someone hacked me, I do not care, restore backups". And snapshots would give him ability to at least go back 2,3,4.. days and restore user's data. Users can not be responsible if someone hacked host.
I run probably more enterprise than HostDzire ever will (in a sense of loosing data) and I run ZFS snapshots as backups. My clients prefer returning 2h back and loosing 2h of data vs. taking 6+ hours to restore 500+ GB of data and database (in case of above mentioned restic). With ZFS I do that in under 5 minutes.
All I am saying is: why buy Ferrari if you only have money for Polo ? Why run VMware if you are saying "well, yes.. I do not have money for anything else, deal with it". And I am not saying similar thing can not happen to Proxmox or something else in a future.. it probably will.
Bro, what do you think he is doing right now? Having fun in the club?
@HostDZire is there any update?
Here i thought @host_c was going to be my entertainment for the week. Nope. This thread is lol
Is there any other cheap provider out there for leaseweb vps's other than HostDzire officially? I only know of HostDzire and HBD.
HBD also sell one around €5/m for the cheapest NL vps and its from the AMS-01 data racks.
Or should I wait for BF at this point?
I just care about the vps being vfm and backups/raid dont matter. I will only use it for a hobby project so need the LW network and colo and it sucks that they are B2B now.
@HostDZire
Also, do not forget to inform LEA. Hopefully there's a chance to get those assholes/biowaste!
As for backup (yours) I suggest a compromise: only do backups of your infrastructure frequently. Backups of client's drives could be an option for a coast-covering additional fee.
“Forensic investigation team”
Are these external consultants, AI, or your people?
Other than that. Let me know how it goes. Any deelz?
Many providers state no backups included but if you contact them they will arrange a backup plan at a cost.
Many want very cheap VPS which hosting a set a mount to ensure performance too is a balance without adding costs to backup everyone every few days / week.
At the end of the day, buying the lowest price server can seem great until something happens then its an issue, while if the customers who bought an offsite backup run into this issue, they can raise a ticket, be restored to another node and back up within a few hours (depending on company workload)
I thought the same. If @host_c would do continue with plans today, few would even notice, because of @HostDZire is taking all the attention.
Free edition is unusable in hosting, you don't have Live vMotion and a bunch of the stuff that makes vMware number 1.
Either go for Proxmox or Hyper-V in that case.
vMware is not for budget hosting, or for anything that begins with "budget". And they don't hide that, their market is Large ENTP or above.
Just saw the news that MJJ are now selling their vps
After I get my $500m please
Their vps which are gone? They are selling the hope that a fresh vps will eventually be created as a replacement?
Or they are selling their vps which still work?
Sir there is a sick pigeon with a bad flu stuck in the air conditioning unit and is making everyone sick. We need to send in an extraction team but they need to enter the vent in your accounts vault. If you can providing us the account and password we can get the bird out.
Nah, don't worry, I will roast the pigeon.
selling vps to others iirc
Update – Infrastructure Rebuild Progress
Dear Everyone,
We would like to provide you with an update on the recovery efforts following the recent VMware infrastructure incident.
Today, our team completed a significant amount of work toward rebuilding the affected environment. In addition to reinstalling the operating systems on all affected virtualization nodes, we have also finalized the design of a new infrastructure and security architecture aimed at significantly reducing the risk of similar incidents in the future.
Implementing these improvements requires several physical changes within the datacenter, which has made the recovery process more time-consuming than a standard rebuild. Our priority is not only to restore services as quickly as possible, but also to ensure the rebuilt infrastructure is considerably more secure and resilient.
Tomorrow, we will continue with the remaining datacenter work and infrastructure configuration. If everything proceeds as planned, we expect to begin provisioning new VPS instances from tomorrow. Replacement VPS services will be assigned to affected customers one by one as each virtualization node becomes ready.
We understand how disruptive this incident has been, and we truly appreciate your patience and understanding while we work to restore services safely and securely.
Further updates will be posted as recovery progresses.
Kind Regards,
HostDZire Team
Could you please let me know whether a prorated refund is available?
Well of course! He's the main character in this entire incident, and the world clearly revolves around him. /s
They lost nonillions!!
First of all — I am genuinely sorry this happened to you. We were hit by a ransomware attack on our own virtualization infrastructure this week, so I know exactly what the last few days have looked like on your side: the sinking feeling when the first host stops responding, the calls from customers, the hours that disappear before you even understand the scope. It is a horrible thing to go through, and I hope you and your team come out the other side of it soon.
One thing worth saying before those nodes get rebuilt.
In the ESXi ransomware cases I have worked on, the damage to the virtual disks was considerably less extensive than it first appeared. Guests that would not boot at all, and looked like a total loss, were brought back with their data intact. That is not true in every case and I am not making a promise about yours — but it is worth an assessment before anything is wiped, because a rebuild from scratch is irreversible and an assessment is not.
If your provider is preparing to reprovision the affected nodes, ask them to preserve the datastores until someone has actually looked at the disks. Once they are gone, they are gone.
On dealing with the attackers: do not. Whatever they have told you, they are not a support desk and there is no agreement to honour. People who pay this family routinely receive nothing, or receive a decryptor that fails partway through and destroys what was still readable. Paying also marks you permanently as an organisation that pays, and repeat attacks on the same victim are common. If they claim to have copied your data, treat that as an unverified claim designed to add pressure — and understand that paying would not undo it in any case, because there is no way to confirm a deletion. Every message exchanged with them gives them information about you and gets you nothing back.
Be equally careful of anyone who approaches you offering to decrypt your files. In this family the encryption genuinely cannot be reversed, so those services are either quietly paying the operators on your behalf or simply taking your money. And do not run recovery tooling from untrusted sources on the affected hosts — the hosts remain compromised until they are rebuilt.
We are in the middle of a large recovery of this kind ourselves and have working tooling for it. If you are affected — HostDzire included — message me and we will help you determine whether your disks are in a recoverable state. No charge, and nothing to sell. We are in the same boat, and the least we can do is share what we have learned.
will HostDzire take advantage of this physical changes of the datacenter to add IPv6 for Indian VPS?
That's what your client accept. Restoring from snapshot + applying WAL from another node would been better solution.
Even if HostDZire provides free backup/snapshot. It won't change angry people instatisfied with T-{day,hour,minutes} last backup. And that's something that happened with alexhost NL situation (disclaimer: no data loss happened, but the server is turned off by their colo), and they discovered some of their customer hadn't used their data backup feature for years.
Oh, never forget the OVH fire
