Are you having any issues signing up? They're telling me that the address I've provided doesn't match the address on file with my bank or payment method. This is not true.
I told customer services the same thing and offered to provide a statement showing the address, phone number and everything else.
Let's hope they fix it for me.
Oracle is there for the big players, they dont care about you, with your free account signup problems.
Always free account here. It has yet to affect me.
It will probably affect both PAYG and Free accounts at some point. Let's just hope it only applies to the newly created accounts or instances...
Sure. Then don't offer free tier if you do not want good sign ups. Instead straight up ask for 50 cents a month administration charges for a free tier or something like Scaleway Stardust etc
Would you pay administrative fee?
Why not? They are offering a really good free tier with so many good locations to pick from.
They changed the plans for old user (I am free tier)
So apparently, they didn't grandfathered old users.
I think if you already had an instance with the old 4 OCPU / 24 GB Always Free limits, it'll probably keep working as long as you don't terminate it or scale it down. The new 2 OCPU / 12 GB limit seems to apply when creating or resizing instances on Always Free accounts. PAYG accounts can still recreate instances with the old 4 OCPU / 24 GB allocation.
It's a huge difference of termination or rescaling. Termination seems logical to me, because then they can easily apply new limits. But rescaling? I mean it is a FLEX product, it is meant to be rescaled all the time. Actually I am on free tier and it still shows me the old limits in the banner on top.
I'm on PAYG, so I can't confirm how it behaves on Always Free. If I had a Free Tier account, though, and still had a 4 OCPU / 24 GB instance on the old limits, I personally wouldn't scale it down until Oracle clarifies whether the old allocation can be restored after resizing.
taking away your previously allocated free resources and then asking money for the missed resources is like stealing candy from a kid and asking money for it if they want it back. Only bankers can think of this, anyway Larry is from the banking kind.
In your example, you left out that you gave the kid the candy for free. It might be more like withholding allowance until kid does some chores.
Yes correct, Oracle gave the candy and then take half away and then asking money for it, if they want it back, for the 'always free' candy. Oracle licensing world is similar, with their java runtimes.. Omg. Stay away like the plague.
July 1st Oracle notification on a PAYG account:

They say paid resources are not affected, but isn't Ampere A1 4c/24 a free resource ?
And also, the block volume storage now states : 2 block volumes, up to 200 GB. Is this 2 block volumes a new limit ? I don't recall having this limit, only the 200 GB limit.
edit: I think the 2 volumes limit is only for block volumes and not for boot volumes ...
https://i.postimg.cc/Kj92K2R2/block-volume.jpg
There was def a limit of 200Gb but i am not sure whether for boot and block. I am actually being charged for Storage (i think) more than I was charged in the past, so need to check it. I only have boot volumes.
I think free or not free may relate to the account - free or PAYG
No, it still isn't FFS. No kid holds onto candy indefinitely; this is monthly candy. Instead of four lollipops they only get two on the 1st of the month from now on.
And really, they haven't reclaimed any resources.
Old PayG oracle account here since 2023. Allocated 4/24 all the way back since I created this account. Didnt know that there is this changes until now, panics go and check billing section, still shows 0.00 so far (calmed), so I think that its true that there will be "no changes" for billing structure for old PayG account. Lets see for July....
After doing that they should stop calling it "always free" should they not?
