185.117.72.0/24 BGP has come back to 100% so I doubt it's a deadpool.

With their AMS location down, their clients portal down and their SolusVM down: it is unknown if anything is even transferrable... except if you want to transfer a /dev/null string?

My VPS briefly came back online to send me dmesg with dozens of errors like:

    ...
    virtio_net virtio0 eth0: NETDEV WATCHDOG: CPU: 0: transmit queue 0 timed out 7612 ms
    ...
watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 36s!
    ...

The node is not doing well whatsoever.

I hope this does not have something to do with the fact that this low-end provider accepted linking to popular IRC networks which can become a magnet for DDoS sometimes. For example: @HostSailor has already accepted to support a server of a a major IRC network filled with bots (Undernet). I dare to assume @HostSailor has accepted other networks too.

they host undernet? mamma mia. even though i never support piracy and illegal stuff i will personally make them an irc filter and give them an excellent deal on ddos mit in ams

Yes, @HostSailor does support Undernet with a server, but was added recently.

HostSailor is not the only one though. We also have @gigahost and @SpartanHost - each offering a server listed on Undernet's servers page.

I only hope providers have very good DDoS protection when they get this kind of courage.

The monitoring agent on my machine was able to send traffic out about two minutes ago, but is back offline again. Inbound traffic all fails.

So this is the extent of premiumness of this hosting right now: https://dpaste.com/AC5D3ZPND
The OS kernel is basically tortured and is screaming in panic, CPU randomly stops for minutes at a time, all sorts of things crash and burn. I wonder if some will get permanent FS corruption and data loss, well it's not like anyone would be storing important data on HostSailor after those 2 months of "please check if fixed".

It would appear the node CPU is really overloaded*, which could confirm a DDoS. But how/why this coincides with BGP withdrawal on IPv4, no idea.

    (*Or the fan/heatsink fell off)

  • CalypsoCalypso Member

I've had issues before with providers and errors/f*ckups in BGP announcements. If I compare the time they needed to fix it (max a few hours) with the speed of working of HostSailor (looking at the Packet Loss issue) this is gonna take weeks.

This is a major downtime for @HostSailor . Hopefully they will fix this asap ..

In theory this could be when you put all your eggs in one little basket. VPSes, own website, control panel and a VPS for BGP announcements all on 1 host. If that host gets in trouble, you're screwed.

However, we know that @HostSailor has a few nodes in Amsterdam; so that would speak against it. Ofcourse unless someone is really stupid enough to put all those infrastructure components on one host.

Can't rule that last one out though, lesson #1 is to never host your own (informational) website on the same infra as your VPSes; when things go wrong to want to inform your customers.

He could also inform customers right here, but even including the prior Romania incident™ we have not witnessed any kind of burning desire to do so.

Then it'd be solved about 8 or 9 hours ago.

L.A service is back, but Ams is not yet.

Do you think there is a loss of data?! :'(

I was thinking the exact same...
