Oracle Cloud Free ARM Instances Being Throttled to 50Mbps

Years after Oracle nerfed the bandwidth for AMD Free Tier instances, history seems to be repeating itself. It has finally started wielding the ban-hammer (or rather, the throttle-hammer) on the beloved ARM A1.Flex instances.

tested my ARM instance in Seoul, South Korea, and both the upload and download speeds were capped at around 50 Mbps. :o

nothing to complain about, but just sharing this news to see if anyone else has encountered a similar situation.

Aside from the routing issues affecting GSL Seoul, it appears that the status of the other speed-test nodes isn't looking very good either.

for the time being, it probably shouldn't be considered subject to a 50 Mbps speed limit (like the AMD instances), looking forward to hearing from more people...

I tried several Ubuntu mirrors; since the server is located in Seoul, I tested multiple mirrors hosted in South Korea. The behavior observed was as follows: the connection speed would briefly peak at 1 Gbps during the initial 1–2 seconds, then drop sharply and stabilize at around 50 Mbps.

Looks fine on my server. i think it's just OCI in SK with peering or smth

You are prob capped on the VNIC level since it's a vps. it could be that OCI was forced to limit to 50Mbps due to abuse? ISP in korea is really strict iirc

changing the IP address solve the problem?

nodes in locations such as Seoul, Chuncheon, and Singapore appear to be capped at a speed of 50 Mbps for free accounts.

However, others claim there is no speed limit; for instance, my friend's PAGO Chuncheon account isn't throttled at all—it's quite strange.

Changing your vps IP will solve nothing. It's just APAC since bandwidth is fucking expensive and it's not cheap since it costs a lot just to deliver data.
