Woah, Didn't know an forum about email existed. pretty rad and thanks.
So I started reading its comments and it seems that: https://www.emaildiscussions.com/showthread.php?p=647182#post647182
truemagic on that forum said: "Infomaniak: if you host a domain with them, you get unlimited email storage. Moreover, you can host all your other domains (even those not registered with them), configure them as domain aliases, and have all your emails routed to Infomaniak. Sleek!"
So I am sharing this for the community to read this, but this is based and I didn't know that either! But my understanding now becomes that even if you buy a normal domain which costs like 5-6 euros like a .ch domain or anything where infomaniak is pretty competitive at, then you can use all your domains and get unlimited emails feature essentially!
Now one can question swiss privacy or not but imo swiss is still a good privacy provider and infomaniak definitely has gotten personal top spot with this feature.
@emgh's OVH mention feels nice too.
Posting this comment to raise more awareness as I had myself previously thought that I need to register ALL domains in infomaniak for them to work with email but that isn't the case it seems.
Slick!
Edit: wait that email forum discussion was also written by an @truemagic username so I suppose it was written that @truemagic , I feel like he can talk more about it now/clarify if I may have any misclarifications.
Infomaniak breaks rank and comes out in support of controversial Swiss encryption law

Atleast they aren't doxxing and calling people psycho and these swiss govt. contract money that infomaniak collects can get funneled into cheap email service for the rest of us
I don't think that MXRoute is/was encrypted either and MXRoute is US company so this controversial law of swiss that you mention is already there within US and many times worse.
Personally I am liking Infomaniak for now.
Found this few days ago (for self hosting)

Ideal for trolling and/or cybercrime. It is the spiritual successor of cock.li
He's been sending you emails to complain for months now...
@AlteredParadox (Iykyk) [From that website hyperblast listed]
I'm currently using Protonmail and Namecrane. I've used Tuta and Fastmail before. Fastmail is probably the most solid but pricing is not the best so I moved to Namecrane due to ongoing sales and I don't really need anything too complicated.
I like what Tuta is doing but just trying to load my inbox is ridiculously slow. Would not recommend.
epic!
i don't care if it doesn't get delivered, it's cheap
so within that website hyperblast linked, most of the domain names are incredibly troubling I guess but there is one dmc.chat
Maybe I dont know what it means but searching online I found dmc meaning to be deep meaningful conversation.
So is this dmc.chat domain thing normal or is it also as troubling as the rest of the names lol
US company or not, makes ZERO difference. What makes it really important is the jurisdiction of the server location.
14 eyes is also an very old term, stoneage I would say. Now we have thousand eyes. All is tied together. MLAT etc. there is no difference anymore.
We have the tools for encrypted communications, even for email, it's called PGP. Who uses it? No one because no one cares about privacy.
I agree with most of your comment, but I do feel like although the jurisdiction of the server location makes sense, you are still trusting the provider and in some sense the laws of the country where the provider lives.
Either way the company being swiss is just yet another plus point after all the other points as compared to being US, atleast to me personally and many if not most might agree to it.
My point is Infomaniak sounds good to just buy a random cheap domain on it and then connect all other domains and hook it up to it sounds good to me
It's by far the best self hosted mail server for true high availability, but it lacks integrated features if you compare it to something like mailcow. It doesn't include a good spam filter and no anti virus, you have to either train the provided model, integrate AI or provide milters.
I run stalwart since around two years ago and run some mailcow instances. Stalwart really shines with the enterprise license and bigger setup like 100+ clients on a node/cluster, for smaller ones mailcow is the better all-in-one.
And if you consider stalwart, because it seems more light weight, forget it. With ClamAV/rspamd milters or AI and the needed external database and message broker for HA, it's not as light weight as it seems.
Moving away from Workspace after about 12 years was a bit of a drag, and I attribute that to the annoying ways in which workspace accounts differ to free Google accounts. While I was a paying user of Workspace, a number of services simply didn’t work with my paid account. Things like the families app with my non-workspace family members. Then there was limitations on Google Home Devices, because it was a “work” account.
When I cancelled, as there’s no fallback to a free gmail account, a bunch of things pretty much stopped working with my prior account. Google drive went to 0MB (not the quota free users get) which in turn stuffed up a few other services that started erroring out. I could enable the Identity Services to retain some access and capabilities with the account, but it was pretty hampered and hit or miss as to what was accessible.
The most hostile however is there’s no way to migrate purchases to a free users account. If you’d purchased anything through the Play store then your stuck logging into this mostly useless account to access those, or you repurchase the content on a free account. Subscriptions also can’t be moved.
Ideally they’d let you associate the work account with a free gmail address as a fallback, or have some sort of migration, but no. They make it a hassle to move away. This disparity between paid and free accounts hinders use as a subscriber and again when you stop. Forces you into needing to maintain two Google accounts I find, at least if you use a range of Google offerings, which again are not universally available to Workspace accounts.
Fortunately as an Apple user I didn’t have much financial commitment in the Play Store, otherwise it would have been a much worse experience moving forward.
My advice would be, grab any 4G vps cheapest you can find with 25 port incoming open. Install HestiaCP. Use outgoing relay. You can use mxroute for outgoing also since you have the plan. Or zepto 2.50 euros for 6 months or 10k email. Or mailbaby 1$ per month i think it was. Im using zoho 10 euros/year for 5gb mailbox and aliases unlimited domains one mailbox. I really like it.
EDIT: I've run this setup with my homelab. Works flawless. You can even get cheap gre tunnel from noez 2.50 euros/month if you host at home.
In reality there are coming more laws and jurisdiction together. It is a complex topic and not that easy.

It all depends what you want to protect for whom. We have the tools and the ways. But you have to be smart and do a lot of research. Just because you think swiss is a great place for privacy, the reality is different.
Yup that's me
What you wrote about Infomaniak and domain aliases is true and how my setup is right now. Infomaniak webmail is pretty cool and it even has mobile app that is as good as Gmail imo, without ads etc. For Infomaniak there's one pain point though, is that it takes time to get familiarize with all the organisation settings until you have the right setup.
I will share another link which I often visit for fun reading, might interest some of you really hardcore fans of privacy

mailcow + Amazon SES (production approved) as the SMTP relay or another SMTP relay. This is what i did before mxroute. Before that, mailinabox with SMTP relay. BUT I think mailcow is awesome.
I'm in the process to sync my mailboxes back from mxroute to a fresh mailcow instance and then I'll cutover.
The argument is usually around deliverability but the SMTP relay sorts that issue.
Ohh and they have a free Workspace tier, Essentials Starter, with the office suite but no email. But seemingly I’m ineligible for that as a former paid user. Basically can’t use my existing account in what appears to be a move to prevent people downgrading if they don’t need the email service.
👍🏻
@truemagic how hard is it to backup and migrate back to.
So suppose I bought a first year cheap domain on infomaniak, (second year prices can be high)
Then at the end of last year can I simply buy another first year cheap domain and migrate it all from first one and let it expire
Or to simply buy a cheap tld domain in general from infomaniak, if you have any suggestions for a particular tld which can cheapest in renewal/long term just buying for mail purposes, then let me know that too.
What are your thoughts on this @truemagic ?
A shared hosting plan can be used for email too. TNAHosting just dropped a great offer on LET.
Yes, thanks for sharing your experience. I see many people who have also suffered similar to you (sorry to hear that) from essentially being frustrated by google workspace. I feel like recommending any service even MXRoute over Google workspace and in vps space, GCP, sometimes which can cost you tens of thousands as Google itself sometimes doesnt follow security practices. Its all really shady tbh, "Don't be Evil" they said.
Any recommendations for such a vps?
Budget and Location ?
The cheapest option that exists... I don't have the exact amount. Location EU
Tierhive, starting from $0.1~0.14/m, 1c, 128mb, 1G, 5 emails per day
(100 emails per day +$0.3/m)
@backtogeek
@backtogeek / tierhive is really really awesome but do they have port 25 opened? Aren't they NAT/ipv6 iirc?
