We don’t even have panel, because VNC doesn’t work so there’s no way to perform initial installation.

It was broken for a while but it was fixed for me recently. Is VNC still non-functional for you?

We are unable to test VNC until we're able to power on the VM.

  • Sounds like the issue I'm having with al.uy, with a VM that has been down for nearly 2 weeks...

The NOC and Accounting ticket queues are moving quite fast. I got responses to both within 48 hours each. The support queue I don't have experience with as I haven't needed any; the sales and provisioning queues are the slow ones in my experience.

My first dedi was provisioned within maybe 4 days of purchase. My Kansas VPS was provisioned maybe ~2 weeks in with an automatic credit for the downtime (from what it looks like). The KC VPS seems to be alive. My second dedi with them is still up in the air. I got the provisioning ticket ~2.5 weeks ago but no progress on it yet. Charitable interpretation is that the datacenter team is in LA building out that PoP so no time to action hardware changes in Texas.

The server that got provisioned in early December is going strong with no issues. The only downtime is from me doing a reboot for software upgrades. IPv4 connectivity is good. IPv6 has the uptime of Schrodinger's cat - literally. You have to measure it to know what the quantum state is at any given time. I'm happy with IPMI though. Probably the least painful system I've used.

Are these guys sorting from latest first?? lmao

  • nikionikio Member

Sorting from latest-first for NOC and Accounting isn't necessarily a bad thing (assuming you catch up eventually).

  • sixsix Member

It's evident that's not the case, given there are numerous users reporting unanswered tickets in the NOC category.

If someone is unhappy, I‘d gladly take over your $99 dedi. 🤓

Its not the first time you're making this joke and while I can appreciate the full levels of irony within, I don't think many people are complaining about the $99 dedis. Firstly because Dartnode only sold 31 of them by my count (3x batches of 10, plus 1 due to a race condition) and secondly because a person with that kind of deal should have enough patience and sense to sit quietly and wait for deployment. After all, paypal refund windows are 180 days now so there's plenty of time to have your $99 server delivered.

Speaking for myself, I missed all 3 waves of the $99 - I did move about 50 places in the queue but the closest I got was #320 before the backend 500'd and the whole thing stalled.

    s22814.dartnode.com, ticket 17759.
Today it showed Powered On, but VNC doesn't work (connection fails for 5 attempts).
I clicked Power Off and then Power On again, and now it's stuck in Powered Off state again.

  • I find that it often incorrectly shows my VPSes in the powered off state as well even when they are operational. I'd disregard what the panel says. It's a red herring.

It looks like the node your service is on might have caught a little cold 🤧
I’ll see what magic I can work to fix it for you

But if there's no important data on the server, I could check if we can move you to a warmer summer island 🌴 :)

Another overhyped newbie hoster. Not sure why they were so popular in the megathread, may be its the spaceX claims. The yearly VPS seems to always have 90% of memory in use (it only has the bare OS template installed and nothing else so far) and they have already taken two months of payments for the dedicated server that never came to be.

Terrible hoster, would stay away. Learned my lesson.

@keoir can you please look at ticket number 18054 for refund and cancellation? thanks

I suppose that in the end DartNode delivers, their customers are so tolerant that barely any of them dare to show dissatisfaction with their service.

Despite appearances DartNode must be doing something right.

There's no data, because there's no OS.
There's no OS, because I couldn't install OS.
I couldn't install OS, because VNC doesn't work.
VNC doesn't work, because machine couldn't power on.

It's OK to delete and redeploy to either Houston or Kansas City.

@stable_genius said: I suppose that in the end DartNode delivers, their customers are so tolerant that barely any of them dare to show dissatisfaction with their service.

"Tolerant" and "Dare" are contradictory. If customers are tolerant, then there's no reason to "dare" to show dissatisfaction. If customers must "dare", then that implies customers are fearful. The reality is that it is all a question of courtesy. There's no point ranting and raving on forums if your ultimate goal is to get a cheap server. Being a dick won't make the provisioning go any faster. But it will piss off the datacenter guys.

There are politer ways of escalating tickets than just complaining on forums.

The other thing is, it is also a question of money. Sure it is annoying to pre-pay for a server and not get it for a couple of months, but at the amounts of money we are talking about, the opportunity cost is negligible. Say you can make 12% a year on aggressive index funds in the stock market. That's 1%/month. You buy a $10 VPS in Los Angeles and it takes two months to deploy. That means you have foregone a total of $0.20 of potential earnings. If you're buying servers on this forum you can probably afford to lose $0.20 once in a while. If you really are worked up over it, I'm sure you could ask for an account credit or something. The situation would be different if someone paid $2k for a bunch of servers on a monthly cycle I reckon. But most people in this thread are not in that situation.

    @nikio

When someone gives you something of value and many others want to have it too then complaining too much could prove foolish, you will tolerate some disappointment and wouldn't dare to risk delaying the deal even more. So "Tolerant" and "Dare" are not always contradictory.

And yes, DartNode customers are fearful, they fear DartNode might take even longer to deliver.

And, as someone said above: "If someone is unhappy, I‘d gladly take over your $99 dedi."

    For want of the OS the data was lost;
All for want of a power on.

I’m sorry, but someone charging two months of service while not setting up said services is not “delivering” in my book.

I guess I still expect at least some form of integrity and honesty even on this forum. There are providers out there who do seem to have more honor. And I have decided to stick to that over flashy “deals” that are not worth my time.

  • This is a quick appreciation for the team, as well as a request to purchase a $99 dedi if anyone is unsatisfied!

First of all, I was lucky enough to grab one of the $99 dedis during the BF sale. Upfront it took about a week or two for the server to be set up (there was some back and forth on my side, as I requested upgrades).

Ever since then, the team at Houston has been incredible. Going above and beyond 'remote hands' for me, and being very patient and helpful with my weird requests.

I understand that others have had different experiences here (perhaps with different products), but I personally have only had a professional service from multiple members of the team, and they have always been able to assist in a timely manner.

Anyway, with thay out of the way... The original reason I came back to this thread, is because I am looking for a second $99 server in Houston, to experiment with high availability and resilient architectures... If anyone is willing to sell, please send me a message 😀
