I also need to redo the thermal paste. But, given the current market, I am really scared to try something I have never done before atleast on a pc

Thermal paste is really easy to swap out. As long as it's non-conductive, you don't really have to worry about using too much. I also recall there's been studies of various methods of applying thermal paste and the only real difference was if you used too little, like way too little. Even if you're not covering the whole thing, that was fine. Though the best method is still put it down, push the cooler/heatsink down, lift it up and check the CPU to see if it's mostly covered.

Thanks yet again. Yah, mine's non-conductive, infact the one that cam eby default on Ryzen CPU IHS. Haven't changed in 3 years or so. Might be time to give it a change.
I lack the expertise to use metal based paste and I think it might also eat away at the IHS. Moreover the vertical position isn't the best from what I heard.

My biggest fear with changing thermal paste, due to lack of experience, ofc is if I would damage the pins while pulling the CPU apart, I mean esp. if the thermal paste is dried by now.

oh yeah, though you should never have to force it that hard. If it's that hard, get some floss or fishing line and slowly work the way between the cpu and heatsink. Maybe even let it run for a little bit before you attempt to remove it. I've never had to do that with a PC before, only embedded devices and gaming consoles. Like one of the original xboxes, I did have to do the heat it up thing and then use some floss (could have done just floss but heating it up made it easier) but that did have some thermal adhesive from the factory.

Oh this gives me PTSD. Years ago, I tried to remove the IHS on my PS3's GPU. It was getting extremely hot and just repasting in the top of IHS didn't work
I tried everything to remove the IHS, heat and fishing line, a thread. After watching a few videos I also tried using a metal scale. In the process I successfully threw a few jumpers and other components off the board. The ps3 has been dead since.

PCs are desgned to be taken to bts, PS3 was desgned to only be repared by specalsts.

True..back then, I lived in an area where I could find no Ps3 techs which made me try that in my own. I regret it deeply to this day. It was my first console ever

BTW, Pudlez, since you are into retro games and such, have you been following the news on the movie Street Fighter to be released in 2026

    https://m.imdb.com/title/tt27419420/

I've heard only a little about it, figured I would check it out more when it's closer to release to see if I want to watch it right away. Admittedly, I'm more excited about the new season of Dexter that should air this coming October (I know, still a ways off but the link to the movie said expected in october)

Oh yeah, i believe Cam from Modern Family is there as well. I wanted to watch it as well. But, have been holding off due to probable NFSW scenes as I have to watch it on the living room tv

he is and yeah, there's several "NSFW" scenes and convo in it.

Yah, I guess the trailer itself revealed the true nature of the character of what Cam is in the series. But, still didn't wanna spoil it if you didn't know.
Definitely a great chance for the man to show his range

I mean Cam from Modern Family is the extreme opposite of what he plays in Dexter.

yeah, was interesting to see him in it. I don't really want to comment too much on it though since I don't want to potentially spoil things if folks haven't watched it yet. I even have some friends that haven't watched the latest season yet so I've been hush about it other than I think it's better than the last few sesasons of the original series.

Yah, me too. But it's definitely on my watch list once I am free

watch 6 feet under. another role he played which is completely different from others..

ps. i thought you meant michael c hall, but he is not in modern family. but cam is in dexter resurrection, a mere nothing compared to dexter..

LOL f noob is worred about nsfw, maybe dexter sn't a great recommendaton!

I meant would love to watch it on big screen living room tv. But since that's in the living room, I can't watch it there.
Made the mistake of watching Banshee on livingroom tv once. Never again

is all good. all my life i try not to want anything because wanting something makes it elusive as fuck (or fully gone).. here i wanted something, then something else, then another thing.. basically wanted too much, and it's all gone now.

a very good example is me wanting to finally get my papers in order after being in usa for 25years and been married to US citizen for 12 years. 1 year and 2 days ago i had my court date where i thought it'd all get finally sorted.. and my lawyer came un-fully-prepared and it took him just a few hours to get info needed after the hearing.. and then trump became president a few weeks later. and then i had another court date on june 12th, which was cancelled due to unrest in chicago, when people were protesting ICE raids in LA, literally ONLY that week and only 2 days of that week, but 1 of them was on my court date, and i would have seen judge, if only it was scheduled before noon, cause afternoon all court employees were sent home away from "big danger" of protesting immigrants and sympathizers.. and 2 weeks later fucking trump fired my judge for being too good to immigrants. and now 6 months later i have no court date, no judge, and literally no hope or even a remote date or anything, i am hung in the air, as some people might say... and worst of all i am sitting quiet and not even bothering my lawyer to do something, as i am worried those fucks will simply pick me up and send me to one of those concentration camps they made all over the country for detained immigrants.. so basically what i am saying that it is fucking painful and dangerous to want something. and i should have never wanted anything from racknerd, LET or whatever.. it's just all either unachievable or gets taken away.. i do have my cats tho.. and some shit i worked hard on, but that stuff is basically survival.. anyways, hope nobody reads this, cause it's simply me needing to say some shit, because it's been hurting my soul quite a lot..

oh sht dude, that mmgraton stuff sucks serously badly! hope you get sorted eventually, but at least f you been there a long tme already, your current H1b or L1 vsa should be fne. Although guess f you're marred you mght have some other vsa, whch gves you more protectons when not workng.

Doctor's appointment in about 3 hours. Would be lying if my heart is not beating fast and that I am not concerned at all

well, at least you'll know what and which and why and will be able to take steps to better your life and health, treat it like that.. i said before i had diabetes scare, all that pepsi i drank over the years.. now i don't eat anything with added sugar and i do still consume tons of sugar from fruit and nut and honey and such, and exercise hard, and before i used to check my sugar after meals - it wouldn't even spike anymore, barely 105 or so after heavy meal with bunch of fruit. which is a good thing.,. not that it helps with papers.. but still something. i will live long for my cats to live long. =)

I wish you a long life, bro. And yes, I haven't checked my blood sugar in a really long time. I am sure given everything, the doctor would recommend I get it done today. Today, I'll know. Will let you know how it goes.

I tried cutting sugar completely off my diet a few months ago, but, having consumed a lot of sugar with my beverages since childhood, I found out it might be tough for me. I am also slightly hypocalcemic. So, a full sugar cut won't work for me as well.

When you cut out sugar, your body wll fght aganst you for days, maybe weeks f t's the frst tme. But t gets easer. F you have a goal that helps, for me t was losng weght, so went full nto low-carb keto det. On and off for a few years, but t really does help shft the weght quck.

Ddn't read the lnk because can guess what wll be there. Bad managers are everywhere, unversal, a fact of lfe. Probably only maybe 20% of the managers 've worked for have been OK. Even the good ones act badly sometmes under pressure, just part of them beng human.

T's easy to thnk your stuaton s harder than everyone else, but most problems are unversal. Maybe a slghtly dfferent dollar value, but t's the same sht everywhere, more or less. And you can get lucky or unlucky everywhere.

But a lot of people, especally young, are too scared to fght for ther rghts because there's a lot at stake f you lose your job. _ get that, but also, when you realse that the job s just a tool to make the rest of lfe easer, you can start to change your mndset. F the job makes your qualty of lfe worse, t's not worth any amount of money. F your job gves you great experences, or makes you happy, that's better than a lot of money. Obvously, gettng both s even better, but rare. So almost every job becomes a balance between how much sht you'll tolerate for the money on offer. But you always have the chance to walk away and do somethng dfferent, f you accept that there wll be a huge cost for that at frst.

_ walked away from a job at a FAANG because _ hated t. My salary had gone up 50% workng there, they wanted me to move to the US and my salary would have gone up another 80%. But I really hated the job and the manager, so just qut wth only the plan of startng my own company. Three weeks nto that, got an amazng offer fnancally through a random guy on a dscusson group, and landed a contract job payng about 50% more than the prevous job, stayng n UK and much less stress. That would never have happened f just stayed n the other job moanng about t lke before.
