Yup, he did see me comment.

I did indeed. Thanks, I'll hopefully have some time over Christmas to look into it some more.

Good morning, Bas. What's on the agenda for the day?

    Work

Most of you guys have work :(

Yeah, I blame society and its dependence on money and material things

Me as well. We should live in a society with no idea of money, go back to the basics.

    I agree

Would be messy, but, I think, better in the long term.

Just some kind of purge. Like in the movie.

There are closed societies around the world that have experimented with this.

I think the leaders normally end up arrested for child abuse though

Yah, since we are on that topic and you did mention about voice cloning efficiency, let me tell you both index and F5 are great at it. They can even clone your voice with almost 100% accuracy with just a 12 second audio clip. But, to have better, you need to have atleast 1 hour dataset ready

Unfortunately, that's the time for me in India. could be different for you.

    Very different:)

    Cursed timezones, I guess.

I dunno. Unlike my timezone exept for winters. Like it's gets dark after 4PM

Oh yah, I dunno if it's climate change or related phenomenon, even we have darkness post 5PM during winters here

The further north you are the larger the seasonal difference in sunset and sunrise times.

I meant King Charles the Third!

    Yah yah, I know
Somehow calling someone "king" in literal sense of the word, in 21st century feels weird, if not superfluous.

well he is a king nonetheless and holds supreme power in the britsh commonwealth.

Yah, that's what concerns me. It's have been completely alright if British royalty was just a non-executive authority, close to the President of India.
But, no, I believe the British parliament still needs to take permission for some procedures from the monarchy, but the executive authority still rests for the major part with brit parliament, if I am not wrong.
Someone being given powers to administer a country in any capacity just cause they were born into a certain family just seems wrong for me

It's not really that bad. Technically what you say is true, but in practice it's all ceremonial. He doesn't have the right to create or remove laws himself, his power is limited to allowing or vetoing new legislation. There hasn't been a single veto'd law for over 200 years, and the general consensus is that if the monarch ever did veto a law it'd trigger the start of completely removing the monarchy.

In practice however, the pretence of having to seek the kings approval on everything does provide a safety net should some party get elected who decided to completely destroy the rule of law or government. For instance, if a UK party tried to act the was Trump has done this term, just enacting laws and decrees without any discussion, I'd hope the monarch would actually interfere.

But yeah, TLDR: it's basically just ceremony.

I understand. But, yah, no one is apolitical. That's the hard truth. In such a scenario, what happens if the monarchy decides to side with a Government that wants to have no deliberation for lawmaking?
But, yes, no system is foolproof. In India, the judiciary is superior over the parliament when it comes to lawmaking for the most part, while in Britain, parliament is supreme. But the equation of having monarchy in this scenario doesn't seem to excite confidence. At the same time, our system also doesn't bring any confidence to the common people at times

That's the thing. The king has to side with the current government, even though his view is frequently different. Actually Charles was always been pretty good for decades before he became king championing various social action concerns.

The interesting situation is that he has the power to put on the emergency brakes to stop the government changing the status quo. So if governments keep on doing normal things, there's no issue, he just keeps saying yes to everything, even if he personally disagrees with it - because it'll have been debated by both the house of commons and house of lords, and generally laws are reasonable if they survive both. Not always, but usually. For something completely radical that changes fundamental law to pass, it'd have been debated a lot by both current politicians and the lords (effectively retired politicians who tend to resist change), and so whether you personally agree with it or not, it's probably a good compromise of all viewpoints.

If the king ever did step in to veto something, it'd effectively be saying that he doesn't trust that whole process, and generally people think it'd lead to chaos, but certainly making a stark question of who SHOULD have the ultimate power - the king or the government - and so that would either lead to the monarchy being removed, or it'd lead to the government being replaced and another general election is called. Because the stakes for the monarch are so high, I think it's useful to keep this emergency brake, because it's not going to get used unless there's a serious problem with the government that can't just be dealt with in the normal way. That's why I gave Trump's executive proclamations as an example. That just wouldn't be tolerated in the UK, except under very narrow circumstances such as wartime and needing to make an immediate decision. Even though, those decisions would be scrutinised and heavily debated afterwards, and if they were bad could lead to a vote of no confidence, which triggers a general election if the threshold is passed.

Got it. Yes, looking at it from that angle, that definitely is a good safety to have incase of some volatile government taking charge. And yes, it also depends on the king or the royal family's stance at the time. So I guess, I am just asking if giving such a veto power (provided I understand that this will be used only in the case of an extreme emergency in an ideal situation) to monarchy, who are there only because of their birth into a royal family is the correct approach. I mean they aren't voted in or anything.
But, I definitely understand what you are saying though. Since the royal family has a huge stake in keeping UK and it's government stable, they won't do anything detrimental.

Take a nap. It works wonders for your body and soul!

I need long undisturbed sleep to feel better and refreshed.

    Not during these cold winters....

No, you gotta! Will wake you wide up. Good for the body as well. Just a quick dip.

I need the sleep to stay sane

Don't we all? The past few days I went crazy and now I realise how bad it is. I am constantly tired and sleepy for the past 2 days or so

Take a nap. It works wonders for your body and soul!

I need long undisturbed sleep to feel better and refreshed.

    Taking a swim also works.

    Not during these cold winters....

No, you gotta! Will wake you wide up. Good for the body as well. Just a quick dip.

Not when I have a cold running right now, which turn into a fever very soon though. Already craving that chicken soup.

You should have some preventative chicken soup if you like the soup

That's definitely a good idea. Let me see if I can whip up some

Possible, and I will contribute the best way I can if we have the numbers.

    Cheers for the effort!

Thank you. Goes for you as well.

    Double thanks.

Can I exchange the thanks for regurads?

    Wish granted

    Thank you for that.

I hope that wasn't Santa's elf that just did that.

The one that was following sara all night yesterday?

True, GPUs are power hungry and were a good reason for CO2 much before AI - mining!

World going to shits cos we wanna make memes!

LOL! True. But, there's no regulation stopping it. Infact, some countries have taken stringent measures. I guess it was some SEA country that crushed GPUs with a road roller to teach miners a lesson a few years ago.

Lol, that would be a pretty sight!

    Was heartbreaking instead

Tough on crime, I like it.

Here we sometimes crush expensive cars that are driving around but haven't been taxed. Good to have one rule and apply it consistently even if it occasionally produces results that seem undesired.

    Won't that be expensive?

Yeah, That would be more than I could afford but a man can dream.

If you have a PC at home, you could always use that!
Or use CPU only processing!

I've done that. Mostly use colab pro account currently for training and generating. I need to explore more services like runpod. CPU is just too slow. I do have some neural network scripts that run fine on raspberry Pi.

    How, I love raspberries pies!

Never had one, but, would love to.

    Delicious.

I meant the SBC Pi!

    Is it tasty though?

Never tasted that. Guess it would taste metally

I wouldn't advise eating your electronics. Silicon chips aren't real chips.

I have personally been using CPU only for training a TTS model, and it isn't as slow as I'd imagined but having watched videos of people doing it with GPUs and the speed at which they complete, I am convinced GPU is much better. Moreover, there are processed which would even deny processing without a GPU

You making a TTS model? Cool!
Also, why not use Google Colab for training of the models?

    That's a good suggestion.

Can't trust Google with raw voice data as I mentioned to Bas.

Yeah, true like I said, can keep them from using it.

Yah, I remember your workplace Gemini sub right?

Kinda like that yes. Don't wanna give them too much info, specially not when paying for their gig.

Oh yes..I can totally get that..but I always take it with bucket of salt when companies like Google say they won't collect data

Stop eating electronics. Salt is for food.

Oh it's there in UK as well? I saw some other country where the LEA just crush cars used by drug smugglers and ganglords that were either used to smuggle drugs internationally or were smuggled themselves internationally. Definitely a pain to watch

Not actually sure about having raw voice data online. Actually, I learned about this only recently, and naturally, I got curious.

    So gloooooooriouuuuus!

As long as it stays there though

    True :)

Don't trust them, even if I had that subscription that prevented them from using my data.

I trust noone. Except for my rat bruthah.

    I trust no one!

    I don't even trust myself.

Are you sure. My friend tried silica gel that come switch laptops and such. Haven't seen him since then. Wonder what happened !
