Since there is no real evidence and just stupid accusations in this thread, I’ll join in.
I blame the moose @jar. He is the pirate.
.
I'm getting a feeling that this isn't the end and that, when you're still upset about what happened and inform parties that are legally tasked going after illegal content are pointed to by you are also pointed to this thread with the remarks "hosting providers won't do anything about it". And I think that wouldn't be fair.
Someone pointed out in this discussion the term hypocritical, and I think that is somehow correct. You say you handle illegal content yourself, you don't have an issue with it, but the first thing you mention to hosting providers and here is "it's illegal!". If there was no money taken, you wouldn't have a problem with it. So let's call things as they appear to be: you're upset because "a friend" lost money, and it happened to be a probably illegal content provider. The hosting providers you're addressing here can't do anything about that loss of money. They probably won't even care. The "it's illegal" part is only for you to get some attention from them in the hope for revenge towards the party that scammed.
If you want to do that: do it properly. Make a complaint there where it can make a difference: at the authorities that are tasked with going after illegal content. It will only take one call or mail and that's all. They will look into it and take appropriate steps when needed. You don't have to go through the frustration that comes from a forum post like this.
Will it return the money? Nah, don't think so. Will it make a change to the amount of illegal content? Hardly. Will it lower your blood pressure and make life better for yourself? Most likely.
Hot take: he was actually just trying to promote his pirated movie site and it backfired
Hot take: this is a trap.
WHMCS license is legit.
Payment solution: Stripe. (no anonymity)
SSL CN=web01.rtr0.com (from dnsdumpster.com - tower-server.com)
access.rtr0.com/index.php sell WHMCS hosting + streaming modules.
A lot of pirate sites (and DDoS 'stresser' sites, etc) take completely non-anonymous payments. I assume they're mostly run by idiots, not agents. (Or they just live in a country that doesn't give a fuck)
They are mostly idiots as shown in many KrebsOnSecurity articles. People linked to the biggest DDoS botnet in history just recently launching 1Tbps+ attacks have effectively been doxxed but just keep going.
Still, those people probably don't have their real identities tied to those payment gateways. Bank and payment gateway accounts with stolen identities can be bought for a few hundred bucks.
Not that that would save them due to their otherwise generally awful OpSec. But that's only if law enforcement actually bothered to put a few hours into tracking them down.
i blame @DP and @Astro for funding the pirate organization

You need your eyes checked @timmmy...different spelling
Hey @DP and @Astro it's time to sue for slander!!1oeneoN!o1n1one
I do however think I let that domain expire unfortunately
well, how come CharityHost.org is not used by Tower Server to host illegal movies including adult porn!
USA registered companies are super easy to register online remotely. You don't get need to be in USA. There's also several jurisdictions where the owner can stay anonymous - even the person who registered the company for them "Registered Agent" doesn't have to check ID and they can use fake name and email with them. There are laws to do a Beneficial Owner report, but nobody is asking for that to open a merchant account or process payments
The entire point of what I'm saying here is - as a USA company with a foreigner owner they're relatively trusted by processors and still staying anonymous.
Don't like it? Write your congressman (if you're American...)
Where are the "no thanks" buttons when you need one? Admins should consider adding one next to thanks 🙏
I feel like I lost brain cells reading this thread. It is mind boggling that such dimwitted people actually exist in this world @ OP
Not necessarily. Most users of pirated content would simply not pay for it or better said not use it at all if pirated versions were not available. There are also indirect financial gains from users of pirated versions.
Most content creators have a lot of lawyers and, believe me, they are very strong when their copyrights are violated by someone. Only they themselves have the right to decide what materials violate their copyright and what does not. Sometimes, content creators might even be interested in illegally distributing their materials for various reasons. Unwanted activism might be overused in such cases.
Stripe is for convenience, if they only took crypto then they would get much less customers.
If it really important to You, and have enough time to work with it, You can try to contact with each provider via their official abuse contact (email, ticket). You should provide clear details, proof (technical details, screenshots, etc) about the experienced abuse. Focus only to the relevant provider related issue, If they not response, they don't do actions, you can try to inform the copyright/license holders directly with the same information (They probably have the enough "human" capacity to handle - via abuse reports, legal actions).
Hosting providers don't know and don't want to check their every/all clients, what they do with the rented services. They haven't capacity, they can't determine their users have the right/ own license for they activity or not.. , etc. But if they receive a 'correct' abuse report, probably most of them will investigate it, and take actions.
