    Berohost 69€/year.
    Berohost 30€/year
    Hostdzire 28€/year
    Layer7 50$/year
    Host c 57$/year

Other VPS I try monthly basis but these are the ones I try to keep.

  • @remy said: What did you keep if i may ask ? you were always looking for beefy and performant server if i remember correctly

    @dataforest @berohost (2x) @FameSystems @layer7 @ionos (not beefy but still nice for 1€/m).

    What's your not idler price/count?

    Hi,

most of you are private people, right?

So, what are you actually doing with this mass of servers / resources?

I mean i have privately running a 7days2die server playing with friends. Same server is hosting a satisfactory gameserver. They run on one of our epyc VPS's.

Additionally i have a nextcloud server as VPS with some TB of data for family stuff to have a higher chance not to loose them in case what ever happens locally.

But what are you all doing with 20-60 servers? o_O

Pure fun having many and feeling good? Or is there some real, "senseful" reason behind this masses? Are you all running your private monitoring project on your 60 servers in 20 locations to monitor... your 60 servers in 20 locations? :>

No offense of course, everyone can do with his time and money what ever he/she/it wants but i am just curious what this amount of servers could be used for in a useful way.

I think it's just fun to learn stuff and it's pretty addictive.

They also double up as VPNs. Some used for storage, experiencing/managing other operating systems, comparing systems and hardware.

There's always that thought of "ah but that's better, and a better location and it's cheap"

    I feel attacked...

Well I call it Hoarding Disorder. It doesn't take up any physical space to hoard it, but it makes people feel good.

Either way I am really considering to cancel more VPS now... please forgive me for contributing to the carbon footprint

  • Not much, around 2 dedi, and 8 VPS, around 225€/yr

2 Dedi with 32tb and 16tb as storage
4 VPS act as a shield for my dedi from DMCA
1 other as VPN and grafana for monitoring
    3 other idling

Also have 1 homeserver (1650v4, 6x1.92tb ssd, 2x 4tb hdd) with around €7/m electrical usage

  • no…. i cant count.

hasn't changed much, I only keep cancelling lol.

but around 400 as usual. Most of them are idling, or partially being used.

i don't know, nor I want to know, how much it all costs. When an invoice comes, I just evaluate if I should cancel or not.
the fun part is finding out about vpss i've paid for over a year and didn't even know I had :joy:

    i've 2 Dedicated Server ,, and 7 vps:

    • One from binaryracks (Intel): $1618/yr
    • One from contabo (AMD): $117/mo=$1404/yr

The remaining 7 VPS are all small, with annual subscriptions ranging in price from $7 to $20. They were paid from LET promotions and I'm only using them for testing my personal projects.

And I'm still looking for (AMD Ryzen 9950X) server, so I'm waiting for Black Friday :#

I am genuinely curious about your use case for so many servers. They cant all be idling for someone with that many servers.

  • 5 dedi, 18 VPS, ~2k € / year. Approx. 50% of my VPS are idlers

    Thanked by 1vastness4594
  • 8 VPS, 2 dedis, ~1500€/yr, mostly idle

  • about 1k, higher or lower. Removing webhosting and some vps soon. Try take only if worth the price.

I used to go crazy with personal servers to host all sorts of stuff, until a couple of years ago. My peak was 42 servers between dedicated and virtual. Then I started to get rid of most of them a little per time both because I didn't have much time to maintain them all and also to cut costs. Now I only have these for personal use:

    • Kimsufi dedicated server for several apps
    • Hetzner VPS for mail server
    • Netcup VPS for uptime monitoring
    • Tietokettu VPS for VPN
    • NovaCloud storage VPS for Restic backups
    • NovaCloud VPS for the high performance backend for Nextcloud Talk (video calls)

However I might cancel the storage VPS with NovaCloud, not sure yet. No problems with the server, but I got it as second destination for my backups, and now I got a lot more credits from Storj for my open source work, so I can just use Storj.

At the moment I don't plan on getting any new servers

    Congrats!
You seem to have only what you need!

    I try, but I can't do it.

Is everything automated with Chef/Puppet or Ansible to maintain them ?

  • I have at least 40+ in hosthatch and greencloud each.

  • 3 servers = 1 cluster
    1 server - docker containers
1 server - old method of deployment /var/www/html
1 server - run misc scripts e.g. scape

The cost isn't about the number of servers, but the dollar amount, LOL. I'm only using the $100 ones, and I've apparently accumulated so many that I've forgotten some of them. I haven't been very active this year, so it surprised me that I still own this many. My main setup is my HomeLab: an N100 mini PC and an old desktop with 128GB of RAM and a 3060 GPU.

    I try, but I can't do it.

It was like an addiction so it wasn't easy to let go of them :D But now I don't need much time to maintain the few that remain, so I can use that time for hacking or other stuff.

    Hi,

no! Of course you are supposed to cancel all others and transfer them to us!

But actually i try to make customers save money and not let them pay unnecessary for stuff they anyway dont need. But i guess thats simply the usecase here ^^; So i can perfectly accept the madness strategic investment :)
