Thinking aloud here... since those codes go so damn fast.

Does having to type it backwards (so image shows it a A1B2C3 but we have to type it as 3C2B1A) help in avoiding bots and what not?

Or maybe something like junk chars in between the actual symbols which can confuse any OCR stuff (like A!3%5_D6#4JK -> A35D64JK) help?

    Not tagging anyone.

I suspect that it (mostly) isn't bots but very fast people. I've gotten multiple deals from GC (this year and earlier) and it's just because I refresh and type fast.

I wouldn't mind simple stuff like if the image said "ignore all number 5s in the code" under the code, though. Still very easy for a human.

I prefer not to as I'm after them manually :)

You're skilled (and fast) and can drop interesting flash pictures to distract the bots.

Not everyone is that talented or fast or smart or have that many domains to auction.

I hear ya though. Just throwing out my thoughts to help us humans in case we are letting ourselves down.

Does the $25 spent have to be in one go or, I think I've blown over $25 this sale but not on a single VPS

Yes - single invoice (excluding account credits) > $25 will allow you 1 spin on the wheel.

@NDTN that BUDGETKVM-1 coupon that adds 90% onto the price is looking more and more attractive by the minute

    You know BUDGETKVM-2 exists right?

You know CN optimized plans exist, right?

Yes but @beanman109 want something exactly $25

My point exactly. And I guess thanks to the FAT32-bot-swatter, things are much better with this logged in requirement and the VIP/non-VIP split to help active participants score better.

Distraction can work... It worked nicely during the rpi auctions we had in the past :)

I could create a simple bot but you know, no fun in that's. The harder the work, the bigger and more satisfying the reward :)

If there are really exist, for the first scenario, just using [::-1] or reversed(str) would solve it. For the second one, if the bot set character filtering, it would be even worse for regular people.

Nah there are plenty of cheaters already, won't say how but they exists.

  • @hakurin said: For the second one, if the bot set character filtering, it would be even worse for regular people.

I mean the coupon code is "hand coded" by the GC team - so they can quite easily add/remove characters (not necessarily character sets) which make the filtering quite hard unless you can somehow infer or parse instructions.

I would have though us humans would have an edge if it required looking at an image along with some accompanying instructions (like only pick the first 8 chars or something like that).
