I suspect that it (mostly) isn't bots but very fast people. I've gotten multiple deals from GC (this year and earlier) and it's just because I refresh and type fast.

I wouldn't mind simple stuff like if the image said "ignore all number 5s in the code" under the code, though. Still very easy for a human.

Nah there are plenty of cheaters already, won't say how but they exists.

Whenever I saw codes, the whole process was completed in just 20-30 seconds.
Before clicking "Validate Code", I copy the code for incident. As I recall , I missed two or three deals when I forgot to login beforehand.

I think as simple as rotating the text, make it 80% transparent, increase the spacing, or just use good ol' WordArt would break OCR but still simple to human. Basically add some irregularities.
