OBhost withdraws recurring discounts and changes renewal prices

    90% off is extremely generous and I'm not surprised they want to increase the price. Almost certainly their TOS (and common sense) says they can increase the price for the next renewal period.

    It's weird for hosts to offer such large discounts and then expect people to stick with it once the next year rolls around. If it's a 20% increase you might be tempted to pay the increased price rather than migrate, but for 90% off and a customer paying $10 per year, do they really expect them to stay at 10x the price? :neutral:

    Personally, I would 110% expect for a service at a 90% discount to go up in price the next billing cycle. Unless the product makes 1000+% profit margin, they're not making money on it, so naturally they would want to increase it to start making money on all the customers they garnered.

    Anyway, looks like you've got until November before that bill comes around.

    The coupon code says it's recurring. They put those words in there.

    This is a clear breach of contract.

    To be fair it has been recurring for 5 years. A price increase is to be expected sooner or later. But this is something else.

    That's why I'm not a fan of unsustainable deals.

    The support response is wrong.

    They removed the discount, otherwise they increased the price from $100/year to $1000/year.

    Just migrate services, this is a red flag that it's going downhill from there.

    Did you send any notification to clients who received this promotion, or did you just edit their services and remove their promotion code?

    Every normal hosting companies would send an email notification informing customers that their price will change and offer them a time to switch to other hosting.

    Extremely greedy provider silently changes renewal price without sending notices.
    When the invoice generates, the email is magically lost.
    The customer only finds out about the invoice when the server is auto-suspended and must pay renewal fee at full price in order to unsuspend.

    Does this mean that you just allowed the invoice emails to go out? Did you specifically contact customers mentioning about the price increase? (not just the updated invoice emails)

    I can understand costs go up, but adding the 90% back on is a bit harsh.

    We understand your concern. The renewal invoices were sent as part of our standard process, but we acknowledge that a separate price change notification could have been helpful. We appreciate the feedback and will ensure better communication in the future.

    I think that the problem is that the four-year limit wasn't announced at the time of the promotion, so how could anyone know about the four-year limit?
