This public html thing literally is the lamest bs I’ve ever seen - I can’t believe you spent an entire day to come up with this response. I guess there was nothing else better.
He logs in to customers’ vps, peeks at private files and activities, changing root password etc… To him everything is public that he is entitled to freely poke around and access, as long as it’s hosted with him.
How can anyone even trust this host with anything anymore? Set up a database or store some private vacation photo, and it’ll probably get dumped and kept in his drawer.

There is host witch was caught storing passwords in plain text. He said he “fixed” it and train continue to roll. Why this incident couldn’t go away? It is a matter of good discount.

No idea who the host is, but was this for the account level, or service level? If it’s account level that is stupid, but if it’s service level, a lot of panels show decrypted form for the initial password at least.
You are wrong. The free downloaded porn video data is still there and a ticket response was provided with the unsuspended service. The admin fee was removed as well. You have 48 hours to download your free porn you downloaded from websites without the legal right. If you need more time, respond to the ticket, but it's time limited.
The free obtained material was in public_html. Now that is clear and in the open, you clearly violated AUP and warranted the suspension.
Your claim of honeypot seems more true than not, your data is the honeypot to us so you can attack us while breaking AUP and laws.

Can you prove that he did not obtain it legally? Maybe had a premium account to download and save material ?
Does the metadata of the file some how say "downloaded by shady means and waives all rights of privacy for a nosey provider"

Charity begins at home, not trying to extract money under the blanket of an admin fee, I suspect you felt maybe due to the nature of the material the guy would pay up, say nothing and keep it quiet maybe for being embarrassed in some way and that has gone horribly wrong in this instance.

This was a roller coaster of emotion. If it was a public_html directory that could not and was not restricted in access by the customer, on a shared server, the host is in some ways obligated to scan for certain things. Every good web host does. For example: https://configserver.com/configserver-exploit-scanner/
It’s a host’s job to prevent network abuse and if can be accessed by browser in public, without restrictions, a host does have to take at least some amount of action to make sure they notice threats. Anyone merely reacting to abuse complaints and nothing else, that is how you run a dirty network. Sorry, it sounds good, but it doesn’t work.
Take a look at all of the network abuse from cloud providers, abuse that many if not most of us agree must be dealt with. They react to abuse complaints. But without proactive behavior they never make a dent and the abuse complaints increase beyond their ability to handle them. That’s just the industry.
However… that proactive activity needs to be very limited. Scanning for PHP shell scripts in public_html on a shared hosting server = good. Scanning for known signatures or file names for CSAM = good. Allowing private file storage and then verifying that said private storage only contains sexy videos but not too sexy videos = bad. I mean, you’d have to watch them to make sure they qualified and weren’t just humorous file names so I guess you’d want to hire someone to watch all videos and check for accidental nipple slips. Just a little too far.
It’s much nicer to just not host public facing user data. So much easier to not have to walk on egg shells.

In NL, no host will snoop of your files without being violating the law unless the HAVE A FUCKING COURT ORDER demanding them to do so.
I realise the Internet is global and laws vary around the world, but the use of Charity in a company name is illegal in the UK, for fairly good reason, and highly misleading at best when the company has absolutely no link to charity/charitable causes. That the provider is also highly unprofessional and frankly inexperienced is just the cherry on top of an already suspicious company, in my opinion.

However, I remember that it was necessary to check all uploaded files proactively using a hash with that special service, without the order of the court, secret service, or police. This was the reason why we stopped offering shared hosting at that data center.
