@CharityHost_org better come clean
epyc!
it would be better if you would stop replying, your ranting (i'm on page 9) is getting more and more stupid.
I was actually about to write template for them. It is good but I would add some things.
Give the man his files back, keep the provider tag and clear your reputation. It's THAT simple.
Those 3 points (very good ones) would make the explanation bulletproof. This thread would have ended in page 1 itself.
Is the time zone also relevant here?
where did you host your shady videos. tell us!
They have 3 names.. snoopy, snoop dogg and grave digger
in europe? (c) soon?
do most providers do this? still breach of privacy.
I am also worried @CharityHost_org has priced themselves out the the market, I am sure it was love for $10 long time
They also charge money to unblock email ports.
Glad I didn't bought anything from charityhost, from the name to the huge inflated price with discounts and now shredding privacy. I guess not encrypting your data is a dumb move but accessing user's data without any valid reason is just a dick move. Calling it with fancy name like "audit" doesn't prove anything.
i am in!
is .org cheap at spaceship?
No. In Russia porn strictly prohibited by law. Also every content about LGBT. Prohibited under penalty of criminal punishment.
I've seen some providers do that as well. Or you have to give them good justification why you need email port open. Probably to prevent people running email servers that are later hijacked and turned into spam bots.
I'm not a provider. That's the most believable justification I could came up for CH. I hope no one does that, but still when storing private stuff on someone else's server I usually encrypt them.
Even the most reputable providers could be snooping through your files.
greenpeace, oxfam, correctiv, omas gegen rechts, rote hilfe, friday for future, letzte generation ... https://img.welt.de/bin/antwort-auf-unionsanfragt_bn-255675058.pdf
Oh, dont look at my 500gb files then, no reason. Thank you
To be fair, it significantly reduces attractiveness for spammers and is much faster than doing customer background check and not as evasive as KYC. However I do prefer to ask customers for a commitment for their VPS, not charge extra for email. That way spammer will lose money if abusing, but legitimate user will see this as usual service renewal.
UPD. My message is relevant only for 25/tcp block, I haven't noticed plural in "ports". IMHO other email ports must be available from the beginning, the only concern is 25/tcp.
In my opinion, they are too greedy. On the other hand, it's part of church tradition to grant indulgence for a fee. I'm sorry if I'm wrong, but I'm an atheist myself. There are also administrative costs. Perhaps they felt that the client should pay for their work done manually.
But content is still user content. Perhaps you know that storing child pornography, for example, is a crime in many countries.
That is complex problem.
charity... says all!
couldn't the thread starter argue that he has a right to his own image/porn and is therefore obliged to hand over the data without having to pay 25$. because apparently the data (against payment of 25$) is still available.
No, that is not bullshit. I guess these requirements were related to this initiative: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_abuse_image_content_list.
I lost part of my emails before 2019, so I can't provide an exact message. This happened at the Dutch data center.
Weird if it's illegal why you can get back the files after payment?
conversely, this means that @CharityHost_org actively supports illegal behavior in return for payment. exciting when money flows in the process.
Unironically Google Drive would be safer to store your porn. They /would/ snoop on your files, but Google is smart and would 🤐 about it and just use the knowledge to sell more relevant porn advertisements that match your tastes.
the other reason is maybe because the user is getting this service by free from provider giveaway
that their "charity" not getting any money. then find a reason to kick out by doing peek on it.
now i will doubt it even if the client did not store the "illegal p0rn", @CharityHost_org will still did something to force terminate the service. more scarry is the case if they put some prohibited content like ch!ld p0rn and then accusing the client storing it.
this such privacy matter really serious issue to me. and also it will lowering any trust to other provider LET. Others for sure will be thinking it is all the providers at LET doing something like this ?
LowEnd provider to me doesn't mean they can't be reliable for production. but because 1 provider such as @CharityHost_org it makes it look so bad on other LET provider.
