I think the only way to safely play MW2 (2009) on PC these days is to use the patched versions for private servers.
IIRC there were some RCE exploits in the wild for years. They randomly got a patch released on Steam like a year or so back, but I believe other exploits are still lingering in there.
I haven't looked into this in a while though, so my information might be way out of date. Instead I just get pooped on by sweats in Blops 6

Actually, the best part of console gaming is cheating being harder or non existing. I wouldn't play any multiplayer FPS game considering all the cheaters.
