lmao that's funny as hell
Global secure Layer acquires Path Networks LLC lol?
GSL is a new upstream for AS396998:
AS137409 - GSL Networks Pty LTD
https://bgp.tools/as/396998
Path is desperate.
They're probably just using GSL to do filtering for them, since they lack quite a lot of capacity now.
GSL was their upstream in the past, no idea why Path keeps rotating.
Doesn't GSL require 4 year contracts or something?
It was an invalid as-path evidently only visible from BGP.tools
No
@stefeman might be smarter than my retarded tired ass but as far as I can see, Path stopped peering via the RS on LINX LON1 and LONAP but bgp.tools still report them as being live on both IXPs.
This used to show the routes that Path was exporting to the routeservers:
LINX LON1: https://bgp.tools/ixp-nexthop/?nh=195.66.224.26&nh=2001:7f8:4::6:ec6:1&rta=396998
LONAP: https://bgp.tools/ixp-nexthop/?nh=5.57.82.70&nh=2001:7f8:17::6:ec6:1&rta=396998
I don't think london is london anymore.
Their IPs on LONAP and LINX when pinged do not respond, safe to say they are disconnected from there (checked with 6939 Looking glass)
So, how much of the capacity did they lost from the ground zero?
London gets routed through amsterdam and amsterdam through frankfurt if you believe reverse dns in traceroutes.
The brits are gonna be devestated. Brexit means brexit
No way to tell, but at least half since half PoPs are gone and a lot of IXP capacity.
My bad forgot to check this, but pings still don't make any sense for london, hope they update peeringdb.
Are they still able to function as a somewhat decent ddos protection service with (assuming) half their capacity or are all their clients, even the ones in functioning locations, basically fucked for the time being?
most of what "DDOS handling" entails is having an extremely wide footprint to soak up the damage close to the source, having kicked out of most of your high quality DCs and IXes is going to harm that; the extent of the harm will depend on the details of what's been lost and where attacks come from.
According to RIPE Atlas data, latency changed approximately at 2025-02-05 09:00 UTC
Hmmm interesting, 1ms in Bulgaria/Poland and Germany, that isn't possible and super bad routing since ping.pe/ping.sx don't report that at all.
Should I create another measurement but traceroute instead of ping using exactly same nodes?
Definitely worth reading Krebs today for more lolz, and a convincing argument that we’re living in a simulation with very lazy writers.
What?
Anyone who believes we're living in a simulation can be safely ignored.

This is a very big change. Honestly, it's a shame. The product itself has always been (mostly) pretty damn solid. Maybe the company will sell and new owners can clean house of the wasteful upper management who did dumb shit like buying advertising for a Formula 1 race car and trim the fat while maintaining restoring previous service quality.
Expect sell out anytime. Path is in catastrophic state right now and sharks sense blood. Offers will be made, brand parcelled, absorbed by other company.
A server in the UK pinging to Tempest's LON API, can see where the maintenance happened. No more London or just some very borked routing? 👀
Path disconnected @ LINX (https://alice-rs.linx.net/routeservers/rs3-tch-lon1-linx-net-v4?q=as396998)
LONAP showing no route to host (https://portal.lonap.net/lg/rs1-ipv4)
I hope nobody is dumb enough to buy out path. The company is rotten to the core. Even if the CEO is removed, the rest of the team is full of people who were ddosing or selling services to ddos others. There's not a single ounce of moral fiber in them.
There are better run alternatives, they just don't have as many pops or a bit more expensive like gcore or gsl.
POV of the future
We have moved our connection with path in london, reviewing when is going to be appropriate to swing our clients back to them currently.
In regards to the borked routing - they are still in london, they moved into the same dc we use so we have a physical cross connect now.
They struggled to get some T1 ports changed over in time so they're live with reduced capacity as a short term resolution to having london customers down. You'll probably see peers go back up and latency go back down in the coming weeks as their other T1's get the ports moved for them.
GTT is very very slow when it comes to ports being moved or going up/down so I kind of expected this.
This is the reason you will see a lot of routes going via amsterdam right now as their IX ports are still live there and likely preferred by a lot of local ISPs in London.
