    I don't have backup ๐Ÿ˜ญ

backups are a must! Borgbackup let's you store it on the cloud but in a secure way.

I honestly only host audiobooks and movies/tv shows on my VPSeses so I don't think i need a backup

It will happen soon most likely!

  • @Beniskickbutt said: Ah interesting.. never heard of that site... So it looks like my LA server starts at MULTACOM, then jumps to NTT and Cogent and then fans out to a bunch of the "big" ISPs

In Los Angeles, the main connectivity is BGP/Arelion, NTT, and Cogent. But there's also a lot of direct peering that is nice.

BTW, i stumbled on this regarding minecraft.. Racknerd has a guide to setup minecraft server on a vps so they must be ok with the cpu and resource usage it has :)

I only host 5 people max, usually only 1 or 2 people on.. CPU hovers around 30% when 2 people are on so its not terrible. Was a little worried

    https://blog.racknerd.com/how-to-install-minecraft-on-a-vps/

Also it really is that easy to setup a minecraft server. Download a JAR from a public URL and run it and you are good to go

    Thanked by 1dustinc

Ye i asked about the cpu usage policy

got it.. Im curious as to what he will say. TrK mentioned something about many having an average 20% load or something.

I dont buy vps expecting high performance but I always just expected that throttle and "fair share" to be built into the software hosting the VMs

  • They're releasing a Raspberry Pi 5 with 16 GB RAM!!!
    https://news.itsfoss.com/raspberry-pi-5-16-gb/

  • I've ran MC servers on some seriously underspecced VPS's without issue. I think it's more about not maxing your resources 24/7 like if you were cryptomining. But yeah confirming with the provider is never a bad idea.

I need to figure out a better solution. I dont put important data on a VPS, i have a bunch of pet projects running on mine and the data isnt important, the code is but I get that backup via bitbucket..

I Was thinking of getting another backup NAS for my NAS at my home setup, but at that point maybe i should just get better offsite/cloud storage

the more backups the better - I'd suggest using all of that

    these ones aren't very great

Thank you Chi for making me relieve the horrible experience I had using those pilers(?). I thought it was all behind me now but it appears it has come back from the grave to haunt me :( I still need to find a way to buy those automatic ones instead. I dont know if I can justify the price yet though given how little i acutally need to use them though.. The experience with these pliers were tramautic enough though that I might just need to do that...

if you have a harbor freight tools near you, then they have a generic set of those automatic ones for a lot cheaper price - I think you may be able to order online from them too
