Wish I had access to something like that as well. I love restoring stuff.
I really don't understand most people in developed countries who just dispose off their electronics for trivial issues.
@BlazinDimes is quite the agreebale person!
I have that as well but its just the sound of PC fans that are on their way out!
Well I am glad that @BlazinDimes, @noob404, and @Beniskickbutt were able to come to an agreement in this particular matter!
Thats already more than half the battle there. Only disadvantage is power conusmption on some of these old components
True that. I still use HDD everywhere but i do wish i had a SSD for booting only. Hence my hope to win one in the racknerd winter giveaway
BlazinNasa? Your new domain name
HAs to be some copyright stuff going on there though!
Wow thats awesome. I really missed out if it used to be that "easy" to win such awesome prizes
Sounds like those were the good ol days. Wish i knew about LET sooner!
Maybe you should start a PC parts recycle on one of your vps? At some point all old tech becomes almost cost equilivant. Maybe you can find people to trade old psu's for old cpus or old mother boards. People can work together to piece meal together a working box
Yeah. I have been guilty of it but its really hard to find an alternative. Like I have 4 PCs lying around. They should go to the electronic safe "dump". If i could though, i would just give it to 4 people in (insert undeveloped country) without even thinking twice. Its just really hard to do that which is a shame
wish we had people like them in india
I would literally be so happy
I would have a whole ass nasa workstation built in my house with them
My server pulls around 100w on average, last I checked, but I did just add an RX6500XT so I'm sure that has gone way up.
It certainly wasn't easy, the competition was actually pretty intense. We also had a lot less time, and tried to avoid posting back to back like we are now.
@xpress7 was there, he knows
What happens to old electronics there? People hoard them or sell them off for money?
Its actually not that easy to find old electronics here.. Like most of what i have is stuff that keeps getting handed down from generations or i tell my family i'll take it from them. You usually have to pay to recycle electronics
I feel like it would be nice to emulate gleam in some form on these giveaway threads.. Like you get one post per day counted into another raffle
are you going to use that to try and transcode videos? I heard people had some success offloading transcoding to GPUs
Yeah, that's not a bad idea, but I think Dustin would have changed it if this method wasn't still working so well these last few years. The prizes are certainly more plentiful now, and that laptop definitely cost a lot more than my Xbox Series S!
Yeah, that was my plan, not that my CPU has much trouble, but a buddy gave me the GPU so I figured I might as well put it to work.
Yeah thats a good point
Laptop is probably atleast 2-3x right? Still plenty of prizes to be found all throughout that leaderboard!
Which server are you using for the videos again? Im assuming you need official support via a plugin or something to tell it to offload to the gpu
Hi everyone
Hey Bas! Welcome back from work!
I got a RackNerd vps in Los Angeles. Here's YABS and speedtest results.

The Geekbench results weren't great, but I guess that's the older E5 cpu on a full node.
The network routing from my home in the Philippines to Los Angeles is really nice, though. It's going through Any2Exchange on both routes to/from, 145ms.
Nice! Did they restock? Or did you have to reach out and ask?
oh I see that's why they give out to other person In India instead you get paid so people generally sell out every inch of whatever they find 🤣🤣
Yeah here i think most people jsut hoard it but its because a lot of people dont need the older tech or its hard to find the people that do need it! Would be nice if it was easier to find someone that could use it. Dont want to pay the fee to recycle so it just gets hoarded
I mean a platform like specifically for this might be good but I think since there are already so many marketplaces here and there also fb marketplace so there is no need for such website
True. FAcebok market place exists but i've had trouble getting rid of old pc's there unless its going to clearly another techie person. I think a lot of people also want the hand holding of having something ready to go. You cant just give many something with an empty drive and say have at it
Time to eat dinner
