Sure, choose another provider then. Even i don't do kyc at companies who ask crazy amount of stuff.
I was just replying to your previous message that paying via Paypal is similar to giving your ID.
It doesn't and i never said that it is equal to giving your ID i said if you are not OK Choose another provider.
OK cool, I think I misread your message.
Ffs, all point of kyc is accountability for illegal actions. If you host cp and interpol asks provider for customer details, including billing - they will trace you down with simple “follow the money” approach.
If you pay with method which has no traceability than provider asks you for other documents. No one wants to be responsible for your actions.
I don't mind providers knowing my ZIP code and full name, to be honest.
With most I use Crypto though
It's more about sending a photo of myself with my ID on hand. Or proof of bills. You can do a lot of damage with that.
Yes, I called about 3 times in a 24 hour period and it was the same guy answering. He was a brat.
Full story:
I got one server off them, set it up and then created another server the following day then they asked for ID. I gave them my ID and then they emailed me to say they’d follow up with a phone call. I was waiting for the call.
Unfortunately I missed it, there was two, one from a Spanish number and one the usual, I tried returning the call and no one picked up. I then get an email saying that they tried calling me but someone foreign picked up who didn’t speak English and then suspended my account. I obviously said that’s not the truth and someone should look into it and then they told me that they cannot unsuspend my account and that it’s out of their hands and that I should find service elsewhere with another company.
Yet I’m a fasthosts customer and to be honest I have done absolutely nothing wrong. I’m in the UK, supplied ID when requested and in return got the weirdest and most uncalled for experience I’ve had anywhere. Almost feel like it was rogue employees and they will use my ID for fraud or something.
Really like the price-to-performance here too, got the XS one for a few years and it's been working rock-solid, never had any downtime and the network is fast enough. Didn't get into any KYC either.
To add to this, as the more I think about it the more annoying it gets, I’ve never been turned away from anything before until Ionos. And for what.
Also, because you said its unmetered...
It isn't, I asked an ex. IONOS employee, especially on the 1€ servers.
Limit is flexible but I won't expect more than a few TB's per month.
Woah woah woah woah Interpol haha 😄 Calm down bro 😂
Should be obvious. Same as on Hetzner, it's more like "we won't bother if you use up one or two TB more for a month but don't expect full throughput 24/7 cause it doesn't play with this money". To be really honest I don't know if I prefer a hard limit or this kind of stuff, but if you play along with either one it's really no dealbreaker.
VPS XS epic!
I wouldn't wish Ionos (formally 1&1) on my worst enemy. They're by far and above my #1, avoid at all costs, provider.
Not relevant anymore with ongoing regulations being implemented by governments. KYCed Bitcoin is not a joke anymore.
I won't touch IONOS, 1 & 1 and any of their product even with a footpole.
They make cancellation so difficult and renew things at huge pricing, send you bill.
Imagine having no card on file, no money in their wallet, they will renew all your domains (even if auto renew is off), and sending you the bill.
And well if you don't pay, your charges are sent to debt collector.
Update :
Forgot to mention, they call you to keep pushing for upsell/cross-sell every 2-3 days as well.
100%.
Then every once in awhile you'd get a random charge (card on account) that you'd have to call in and try to explain it's an error.
If you value you're time and sanity, avoid.
Worse support ever seen in my life, cancelling a service is impossible, spend hours going through the process on their website and had to PHONE them to cancel and that is the only option. Even if it is at the end of the billing period. It looks like they are really forcing you to keep your contact and making your life impossible when you don’t want it anymore.
i am happy about the negative reports here... it keeps potential scum from signing contracts there and my 1€/month vps therefore continues to run stably with a clean ip.
Fuck IONOS. None of my homies use IONOS.
duh, its a few clicks for me, plus they ran a promo a few months ago, got a bunch of 1€ servers with 50% off now.
Whatever, as @hyperblast said, keep the network clean, thx bye.
Just try the VPS S in US and the results are kind of okay. The only downside to me it's the location, i'm from Brazil so New York area and miami have better ping.
Just wanted to chime in with regards to cancellation.
I bought the XS VPS about a year ago with a 1 year commitment. Figured I didn't want to renew about 1 month in, so initiated a cancellation. Like others mentioned they offered 50% off if you extended the contract to now + 1 year (so I'd be in 11 months).
I'm about 2 months away from the contract expiring so submitted another cancellation, and now they offer you 75% off.
Not sure if this is a new rate or a second-level cancel offer, but this would end up being a $6/year VPS (for subsequent year) with an IPv4 and a hefty amount of traffic and performance. I've definitely pushed ~5TB egress some months and had no complaints.
Wat... no way.
I just checked, they offer you 75% off, that 1€ if you sign a contract for the next 24 months.
Yeah, it's real.
Then once you click the button:
Anybody wants to price match a 0.25€/m 1GB KVM?
I remember trying to buy a domain with them, tried to register a (6 digit).cloud domain (it was for my nextcloud server) with paypal but it got placed on hold? called them up twice to explain why my domain wasn't process through but ig they were sus about the domain and closed my account. Weird
I got all of their locations, solid for me.
How?
