Yes of course. I meant the storage. But does it make a practical difference between these 2 locations or is it more of a perceived privacy?

I am leaning towards the 2nd. Personal opinion, beyond right to delete data - i find most of GDPR protections to be kinda moot when it comes to small businesses.

Correct me if i am wrong, if a smallbiz didn't comply and get caught at some point - they will have a fine and if at that point if fine is non sustainable - the smallbiz pack bags & bankrupt the company and say adios folks.

It's not like GDPR allows EU to personally prosecute the directors / operators of the business right ?

  • @Arkas said:

@Fritz said: They care about the privacy matter more.

You mean the GDRP thing? Why not encrypt everything? Is there a practical difference based on reality if it is hosted in the U.S. or the European nations? 5 eyes and all (or is it 15 eyes? I don't remember, I encrypt just in case).

For me it's mainly legal reasons. I want to use it for my business and therefore it needs to be GDPR compliant and preferably in the EU.

That depends on the structure of the company, but it is certainly possible.

For me it's the later. There most likely isn't a huge difference but I prefer to keep as much data as possible within the EU. Thats why I'm moving away from MXRoute although I'm more than happy with their service for 8 years now. Dunno why they moved the server to the US without even informing the users.

Because we never intentionally complied with EU regulations, don’t consider men in black suits doing backroom deals to be the experts in privacy or security no matter how many times they write those things in the headlines of their legislations, never promised anyone otherwise, etc. To think your data is less safe because it’s not in a location where the police more routinely yank drives out of systems without anything nearing what we consider due process, it’s easy to return an eye roll.

Do what you need for your compliance but your data is not magically safer in Germany. No one who understands the industry would say otherwise unless it was for profit.

Absolutely not. What is there to refugee over? Were his facebook memes a little too spicy?

Our pricing and features are great. I'd have to compare but we're probably pretty good compared to fastmail.

From our perspective, there's nothing better or worse about the privacy in one location or another. We're not gonna go through your data, read your emails, scrape your data to run ads, etc etc no matter the location.

The compliance stuff is being done for the business customers who need it to be able to resell mail services. And the future EU location is largely there for latency/speed reasons, doesn't make much of a difference for mail but will matter some for the cloud storage component.

That's what I appreciated about your offering. I do use the added features on Fastmail and to have a similar set makes the migration across that much easier. Now using a combo of MailCrane, Fastmail and MXroute just to keep it spicy. ;)

More than happy to pay more for a (future) lifetime EU service, it's such a good deal considering the feature-set included. Not sure why others can't accept that you want to charge more given the added overheads for the region.

We're not doubling the price or something. Probably add 10% - 15% to the price.

  • Thanks for the great product and price! No issues and everything has gone smoothly with migrating.

One thing I liked from mxroute was the iOS push instead of fetch. Is that something that can be a requested feature with Crane?

Correct. The EAS licensing would make this deal impossible, it's a per mailbox, per year fee.

Also I don't think MXR even uses Z-Push or whatever it was anymore.

We have IMAP IDLE enabled so it should be pretty damn quick.

Take an offer. If I understood correctly, I can have all my emails(Gmail and Outlook) in one (own domain) and everything will arrive in my email hosted in namecrane and I will be able to use it on the cell phone, right? For personal use

  • I just need to change my login background and all is good, tired of rotating nature images. :'(

  • Is the Cloud Storage only permissible within Reseller or it's also possible in the annual Plans? Is there any difference between the File Storage and Cloud Storage?

Does it support ability to share a file as a public Link or is it strictly for your own use?

    • The file storage is available in all plans, including the lifetime
    • The 250G on the lifetime is for email + files, however you load it up
    • File storage / cloud storage. Same difference.
    • Yes you can generate share links for public sharing. You can also put a password and expiry time.

Thanks ! It was just a tad confusing on the first post where all the non reseller Plans had "File Storage" written in the specifications and only the reseller had "Cloud Storage" :)

  • Any discounts on Crates at all ?

  • Just tested file storage. Public links work but filenames are generated from the IDs without an extension. So the downloader has no idea about the original filenames.

Most strangely consistent and reliable implementations I’ve ever seen.

Yup, was just about to come here to say that. Annoying bug.
