at the end i'll download all the images, zip them and upload them, maybe only on discord, cuz most likely there will be NSFW ones...

    Discord is such spyware https://spyware.neocities.org/articles/discord
I'm not sure people are aware of all the "fun" things Discord is doing to their users.

That's just scary. Just wondering if an OS like Graphene would be able to help me from such spywares built into apps or is the best option to not even install them?

    dont install tbh
msg arent encrypted... chinese company, they dont care about scams and shit either

Care to explain? i am eager to read your thoughts about this.

    discord does not excrypt messages
owned by tencent (company knows for connections with ccp (like every comp in china? duh))
there are many many scams on discord, many viruses and abuse, discord does not give a fuck
all they are is about selling data to ccp/whoever else and selling you their shitty nitro
you speak up, you get banned

Didn't know this. A few months ago, learned about their Tencent and CCP connections, but, I thought those were disproven. I guess TG is a better option all IMs.

TG isnt that safe... they changed TOS lately after the guy was arrested, plus they did some weird stuff
    like
free telegram premium, if we can use your phone to send sms 2fa -> the fuck?

Heard about the arrest, but everything else you said is news to me. Prolly the last hpe was the Russian guy's TG. Even that's down the drain now. I remember seeing an app on the series - terminal list though. Let me dig it up.

Oh yah, it was Threema - https://threema.ch/en

Not sure if it was just an ad or if it actually is good for security and privacy.

    imo use signal

BTW, @TrK have you jailbroken your iPad?

I am not into jail breaking my devices, for security reasons. I even don't root my android since last 4 years.

I used to like a decade ago. Not after I moved to Pixel. Might root only for the purpose of running Graphene.

Just don't see any value to it now, was kinda interesting and with all the fuss about magisk and what not, after that it just died down.

But, Graphene's different, from what I've heard. It does take the fun out of the phone if you use it mainly as a media consumption device. But, if you are privacy and security-centric, Graphene is the OS to have. Edward Snowden recommended it a few years ago.

isn't it just another AOSP fork i have seen too many tbh all promising this and that, but the security part of any AOSP fork is a joke unless you stopped using Android altogether, the only reason my main device is apple and secondary is android is due to this. Android isn't that secure imo and even though we know it we just can't have google disclose everything.

No, GrapheneOS is not "just another AOSP fork". Here is a great YouTube video (using a Privacy Front-end) if you want to have a better in-depth explaination of what GrapheneOS really is - I evolved from CopperheadOS, which was never an AOSP fork.

    https://invidious.nerdvpn.de/watch?v=WkQ_OCzuLNg

If my memory serves me right copperhead was also AOSP powered OS with some privacy tweaks and graphene made it to later stage with improvements over the time. But i feel like about it is just plainly if only if ubuntu touch could have gotten that much support and i might have started using that instead of any AOSP powered rom. Be it graphene or any other.

There are plenty of Linux-based phone OS, like PostmarketOS, Mobian, and as you mentioned Ubuntu Touch.

GrapheneOS provides you will "full disk encryption" using hardware and not just software like all the other phones out there today.

Full disk encryption isn't only available to graphene, it was introduced with google pixel 5(ig), and many other AOSP based roms also have the same disk encryption feature enabled cause the hardware was supported, it's kinda same a tpm no one knew untill MS forced it on everyone's head with bullet.

As I said to @noob404 above: "The Pixel phones are the only phones with the Titan M security chip which enables it to have that hardware device encryption - all other phones claiming encryption only do so on the sofware level. "

I only trust full disk encryption on devices & computers which I install the OS on - otherwise it's not to be trusted.

Never had the time to look into encryption. Is it really worth it, unless your phone/device has some hyper-confidential info?

Everyone has a different "threat model" and it all depends on what yours is, i.e. what adversaries are you protecting yourself and your data from?

Again makes sense. But, since the whole world is interconnected now, you can't see a potential adversary. So, I guess it's better to put some time into encryption. Prevention better than cure.

Imagine having your phone stolen without encryption and then the thief can do whatever he wants with your phone contact list or any other data on your phone such a Banking App, which most banks continue to move people towards using...

Yah. You got my attention and I am pretty concerned now. Maybe, time to look into it right away.

Same would apply to a laptop too

BitLocker enough for debloated Windows or do you recommend something else?

I would recommend not to use Windows and to instead setup & use LUKS on Linux. Lots of distros have the feature to select during the install process.

Planning to move to Linux completely very soon. The only hindrance is the though of using Photoshop and Premiere on Wine.

Discord is owned by tencent? i know tencent is investor in discord inc, but isn't discord wholly independent, i agree with message encryption and un-moderated things laying on discord. But linking it to ccp is a bit too much. I mean discord have investments from various companies like sony and others.

Tried crita or whatever it's name is, it looks promising and for premiere ig there won't anything good for linux anytime soon.

    This one - https://krita.org/en/
BTW, I don't need any advanced features on Photoshop or Premiere Pro. Just the very basic features. Any recommendations?

The only thing attractive about TG was that it was owned by Pavel Durov, in hopes that he won't be a sell-out. There goes that.

But linking it to ccp is a bit too much. I mean discord have investments from various companies like sony and others.

Prevention better than cure.

technically not... tencent just pours money into discord

honestly look at the parlament of country X and oil or car company Y how much money they pour there and how much power they have there...

i mean, money isnt free, they obviously want something back

Yeah they are getting back the profits, money makes money, and it's how it functions. It's a simple matter. If i own 10% of a corporate i am entitled to receive 10% of the corporate's profit namely dividends.

Tried crita or whatever it's name is, it looks promising and for premiere ig there won't anything good for linux anytime soon.

    This one - https://krita.org/en/
BTW, I don't need any advanced features on Photoshop or Premiere Pro. Just the very basic features. Any recommendations?

For photoshop krita and gimp will do, but for premier, it's hard, i know there is shotcut and davinci resolve but there will be some drawback you gotta try it and see for yourself.

at the end i'll download all the images, zip them and upload them, maybe only on discord, cuz most likely there will be NSFW ones...

The Signal Protocol design is great but the Signal Messenger implementation is flawed in many ways.

Here is a great article about this topic https://dessalines.github.io/essays/why_not_signal.html

Here's another article from 2022 about when the Swiss Army banned the use of WhatsApp, Signal & Telegram for use by their soldiers https://www.rt.com/news/545502-switzerland-army-ban-whatsapp-privacy/

  • Well, we have ripped through a few pages right now. If we can keep these worthy conversations intact, I not only get to learn a lot from you guys, but, also increase the chances of chef showing up.
