Hi,
there should be an option to exclude specific directories.
If you mount the external disk to a specific directory then you can just mention this and it wont be backed up.
BUT actually that will only lead to dataloss in your case, as this backup is not treated as a file backup!
=> Its treated as an entire server backup.
So if you restore a backup it will replace your old server -- not replace your old data alias drives but the whole and complete server including all drives. -- If you told the system not to backup this or that directory then, well, it wont be there anymore after you restored the backup.
Using the exclude what ever from the backup is actually only useful if you have there some special kinds of files you dont want in a backup.
This function uses the proxmox backup and restore capabilities. Their API does not support ( as it seems to me ) to restore only specific disks of a server. So we can unfortunately not implement it without breaking the 100% API based approach we currently follow.
And some other important thing to note for you:
"I'd write the 4k I/O results off to the CPU too"
Please always checkout the offer in details. Our website is packed full of information without bla bla. We do publish IO limits for every product.
So if there is a 10k IOPS limit, you will receive 10k IOPS. And so your 4k value is as it is. I am actually wondering that yabs measured 13k IOPS in your case. The limit should be with 10k... but thats the reason.
We do not follow the strategy to give all customers access to the full possible IO because we aim for a longterm reliable hosting where customers can have some idea how much IO they can actually expect the whole time -- and not having super speed when the hostmachine is empty and laggy speed if it gets filled with customers.
Hi,
yes. Just like we upgraded customers who had Intel Xeon E5-2670v2 to Intel Xeon SP 6230 or Ryzen 5950 to 7950X3D for free and just like that, we also do usually modify old accounts to match the features of new accounts.
For us, "older/loyal" customers have a higher "value" than "new" customers. We will in most cases "treat" them "better" but at least equally.
So basically we do the opposite of most other companies ^^;
And after we added the function to the UI of being able to plan regular automatic backups, it made no big sense to leave the accounts with only 1 backup slot. So we increased it to 5 -- also free of charge.
And because we are currently doing storage migrations, we will have to touch the accounts anyway, so we take the chance to modify the backupslots aswell.
By the way: Older backups will be rotated out. So if you reached your max. backupslots and the automatic wants to create your daily / hourly / what ever'ly backup, it will delete the oldest one to make space for the new one.
@layer7 thanks! The 4k is clear now. And I really do like the balanced and great value offer.
When can I expect "do not buy flag" to be removed
Hi,
we are currently extending / changing infrastructure. This will take at least another 2 weeks.
At the same time we plan to restructure the whole offer and remove some offers / adding new offers but especially giving the customers more flexibility to add single Cores / RAM without the need to change the whole plan.
Realistically this whole procedure will consume the whole december and its a big question if after all this the setup will be removed. Since we are running short on IPv4 we will most probably more likely increase the resources inside of the plans and raise pricings.
At the end of the day the offer will be still very very good from the point of resource per money, but the 2-3 EUR VPS's with IPv4 wont exist anymore ( or having a huge setup ).
So if you need to go with the smallest VPS, then the setup will be there as it seems for now.
If its also OK for you to go with a bigger package, then there wont be any setup or just a small one ( depending on the size you choose ).
But in general, at least thats currently the raw plan, we will offer more for more money. So this super cheap servers with IPv4 will die out. Of course we wont cancel existing services. As long as customers dont cancel, we will not cancel too. So there wont be any price increases for existing contracts.
Honestly, I think there are more than enough offers for 2 Euro a month and less if you just want a basic VPS. That market is crowded and not all players in it are bad. I've heard good things about IONOS from friends, for example; some here seem to swear by Racknerd, etc.
Layer7 seems to be addressing the next level, when you're still quite budget-conscious but trying to do something nontrivial. Some things that distinguish Layer7 in my view:
It's really not "Low End" but "Low Middle End", and you can drop the "low" part when you are ready. If a project grows (or just needs some extra resources for a development period), there is room to expand into without hitting a steep price increase.
Update after a few weeks of using:
Last Black Friday, I purchased their German VPS for 21 euros, which has remained stable for over a year. Upon renewing my subscription this year, I requested a transfer to a French data center. Their work orders were promptly addressed, and their customer service was exceptionally friendly. I would highly rate them as very reliable!
