dude I have to know why you're trying to maintain this narrative that you own this super awesome datacenter that no one has ever seen or is allowed to see, genuinely what is the point of this? Calin is honest about hosting from a residence and people still like him and use his service. You dodging this basic question that multiple people are asking is really weird, just say the servers in an apartment or a garage or something and let the actual service you provide speak for itself. It just makes you look way way worse this way.

Not a lowenddrama at all. I simply do not trust you or the others mentioned to hold my bag of potato chips, let alone my data.

It's just a matter of personal preference. You should learn to accept your status.

  • Excuse me, maybe I'm OT, but aren't we on a low end forum? I'm a novice in this field of VPS and the like, but I have this opinion.
I mean, great providers have certified datacenters and the like, but sometimes they aren't better that these low end providers... i.e. Axxxa, here in Italy, they still uses FTP to upload ISOs, support ticket are managed by unskilled people and if you are an hobbyst, the service level you got isn't much better... some years ago a big DC in Arezzo caught fire, like the OVH one... Well, I wouldn't crucify passionate people like these providers.
With the understanding that I don't know much about the business and I wouldn't want to be just a clueless.

    Well... To make an analogy...
You do not go to opera to see a clown, as well as you do not go to the circus to hear a cultural piece of song.

Everything has its place and, no matter how much a clown pretends to be a cultural artist, it is just a clown meant to entertain those who like low level of entertainment.

Same thing with hosting providers and block alley sellers.

Well... Depends. For me it isn't. Mostly because I would have to pay for a CPU/RAM that I don't need.

    But thanks for mentioning them.

thanks for the hint! Fixed the CPU stuff!
I also saw, that the offer is actually about up to 3 storage disks with each up to 30 TB, but the order form will only give 1 disk with up to 10 TB....
Who ever added this to the shop was maybe too afraid of that huge disks ˆˆ; We will fix that aswell.

    Just to clarify, you get 2 Cores, 4 GB RAM, 50GB + 1TB redundant disc, 1 Gbit/s (20TB/month), 1 IPv4, 1 IPv6 for 77,66€/year? That is really cheap.
If someone reading this has that server, can you YABS it please :)
Edit: I cannot find any TOS/AGB of you?

    Hi,

yes i can confirm, currently the configuration you talk about is at 77,66 EUR.

But honestly, this configuration makes actually not too much sense. An identical configuration with the regular cloud servers will be a lot cheaper. So taking the Storage Server product makes only sense, if you want to add more than 1 additional disk -- up to 3 are possible ( but not orderable through the shop.. lol... what fail... ). Will be corrected asap.

While this diskspeed result is actually missleading a bit, as its the primary NVMe disk and not the additional ones....

The additional disks have each actually a 50 MB/s ratio configured, while the Advanced / Pro Storage products will have a 100 MB/s and 150 MB/s ratio.

And as to TOS/AGB: Yes we dont have any. Up until now we had no reason to limit the rights of the customers from what is defined according to german law.

So that means in general: Its all allowed, that is not against german law. While the german law also says that customers are not allowed to damage things they lease. Which means in our case as an ISP: Harming the IP reputation / network / infrastructure stability is of course a problem and of course not allowed. But usually thats somehow common sense, so there was, up until now, no reason to write this somewhere.

You're absolutely right - I didn't look at all products. But the 'Mid CPU 2Cores-8GB-80GB FRA1' with 1TB for 50,04€/year looks really attractive...
    I have two questions:
    1. On the speedtest you posted, nested virtualisation is enabled, is that also enabled on the 'Mid CPU 2Cores-8GB-80GB FRA1' server?
    2. Do you guarantee any availability?
But overall, I am tempted to buy one of the servers...

  • layer7layer7 Member, Host Rep, LIR

    Hi,

you choose yourself the CPU emulation and settings, as well as NIC emulation, Controller and bla bla what ever settings.

    • So yes, nested is activated by default and can be turned on / off according to the needs of the customer

    • Contractually we dont guarantee anything. But we exist since 2003, cant be that bad...
I just found an outdated profil of us from some german comparison website.

    https://www.hostsuche.de/firmendetails.php?id=813&task=4

Hrhr, shows an avarage of 95,74%

-- including some months in a row with 0% -- i assume they tested something that didnt exist at that time, while most probably we were not offline for 4 months in a row and still surviving that business wise...

The real avarage seems to be somewhere >99,xx%

    Hi there,

Looking for a cheap-ish server in EU with 2x 10 TB HDD (hw raid preferred, but software is also fine).
Even if not required really, 1 Gbps+ speed would be appreciated.
    IPMI/iLO/iDRAC is a must.
CPU/RAM, cand be as low as a quad-core with 8 GB RAM.

    Bare metal only please.

Won't make too much of a traffic, will be using it mostly to store some backup of a backup server (aka won't be a main backup server).

    Thanks.

Got this available to deploy pretty quickly in the UK:

    • Xeon E5-1620 v2 (4 cores/8 threads, 3.70 GHz)
    • 64 GB RAM
    • 1 x 1 TB SSD
    • 3 x 8 TB HDD (RAID 5) - 16 TB usable
    • IPMI included
    • 1 Gbit Port - Unmetered, fair use. I've assumed you'll have peak usage at some points during backups.

Cost: US$85/mo (~EUR 80). We havent listed it on our website, https://www.mlnl.host/ as its not a typical setup we offer.
