I <3 Greencloud - Looking for something similar.

I currently pay Green Cloud VPS about ~ $23/yr for the following:
50 GB DR
8 GB RAM
8 TB BANDWIDTH
This has been wonderful for hosting my Mastodon / Fediverse instance.
I am looking for something similar, with maybe half the resources and half the price. Not sure if its out there, but please let me know because I am on an Oracle Free Tier for some staticc sites doing a YunoHost and the service is fuckin' awful.

racknerd
I pay the same for half the specs on Greencloud. For similar specs / price check Ethernetservers.
What's wrong with Oracle? It has worked decently well for me.
I dropped my Racknerd VPS 3 months into a yearly contract for how unstable the hardware was. I wrote my review on TrustPilot but it magically disappeared a week later, and other negative reviews were purged too. Archive.org captured some of them.
this is a triennial double freebies package. are you trying to beat that?
yeah to be honest you already have a killer deal. im paying more for less then that right now.
That's good to keep in mind, my experience with them thus far has been really good other then some downtime very rarely.
I must have been one of the few to have unworkable problems with Racknerd, or the service wouldn't be so popular as it seems to be. But it bothers me that they doctored the reviews and the negative ones were deported to the gulag, on Archive.org, and some didn't make it there either.
yeah that's some sketchy behavior. and yeah maybe they just dont like you :P
@bamboo4409 We are still running a pre-order offer for Budget KVM plans in SJC if paid triennially: https://greencloudvps.com/billing/store/budget-kvm-sale
Racknerd VS Greencloud?
I am between these VPS:
https://my.racknerd.com/cart.php?a=add&pid=782 (maybe with 3-cores I am thinking to buy).
or
EPYCDE-3 from: https://greencloudvps.com/billing/store/premium-kvm-sale
Any ideas?
I want 2-4 cores CPU, 4 or 8 GB SSD or NVME, and a stable internet connection.
Which company is better?
Definitely Greencloud. Been using both RN and GC, while RN is value for money, performance is definitely more better on GC.
Just go with GreenCloud. The CPU is EPYC Milan and the disk is NVMe which are much better.
Don't go with Racknerd if you want performance.
If your review was removed from Trustpilot it was against their guidelines and removed by Trustpilot. Racknerd can not remove reviews from Trustpilot.
Since most negative reviews are very obviously user error and has nothing to do with the service provided, I am not surprised that many of them are removed.
Personally I have had 2 vps's at Racknerd for over 4 years now without a single problem, so the "unstable hardware" just does not sound right to me.
I have 2 VPS from 2 years, with no downtime. Performance is very weak of CPU that's why it is cheap, no problem at all otherwise, brilliant support if required.
OP if you plan on going with Racknerd's $44.99 plan I can get it for $40 first year for you as I am trying to get rid of the balance in my Racknerd wallet, made a post for the same before: https://lowendtalk.com/discussion/187287/transfer-trying-to-get-rid-off-racknerd-balance#latest
This is my review I posted on TrustPilot, flagged as "off topic" and therefore dishonestly deleted. It is still visible from my account page:
I was wrong in blaming the KVM steal mechanism for the OOMs, because it is only concerned with CPU sharing instead of memory sharing, but the point remains that KVMs can be overprovisioned and may lack sufficient memory. I was also explained that the failure to restart the NodeJS applications may had been caused by I/O timeouts whenever the host server rebooted after a random shutdown, and all the VMs saturated the disks bandwidth at once.
These are two hypotheses and I don't know for sure what happened behind the curtain, what I know is that the service was dysfunctional, a few other people complained describing the same symptoms, and all the reviews were deleted.
Ops I misquoted @rcy026 in place of @anubhavhirani, can't edit now. Nevermind.
You're lucky! I paid $40/mo with that specs, half your bandwith at vultr
If you ran out of memory you should be able to see it quite clearly, and it would not persist between reboots. Same with I/O, it is very easy to measure and monitor.
And, again, Racknerd does not have the possibility to delete reviews on Trustpilot. If you think something have been "dishonestly deleted", you have to take it up with Trustpilot.
Nothing could be inspected whenever this happened, because about every process on the VM would stop working until a further reboot. It doesn't matter anymore at this point and I'll leave that in the past, I'm over for good with Racknerd.
Yes I think that very much
You should have set up a monitoring system that logs every second (like Netdata) and checked the data after rebooting. It's possible something you were running caused the issues.
Greencloud, always.
It is possible but I don't think so. With other people reporting the same issue with Racknerd, and with the random reboots every couple of weeks that were not logged in
/var/log
as it happens after a hard crash, and with the same config files (the whole/etc
directory) plus the same Debian version and packages version working fine on other VPS'es, the scope narrows down to Racknerd itself. But again I understand this was one of the few isolated cases, as most customers are happy with Racknerd. I was not.I understand that you were unhappy but it seems unfair to blame Racknerd when it is pretty obvious just by reading your posts that you have very little understanding of what happened.
I'm not saying Racknerd is perfect, they make mistakes just like everybody else. But my experience is that their support go to extremes to figure out what causes a problem, so I just find it very unlikely that they would have a hardware problem that affected multiple customers for months without noticing it.
Also, you should not accuse Racknerd of removing reviews unless you have evidence to support it. That is a serious accusation and should not be taken lightly. I still don't understand how you think Racknerd is able to remove reviews from Trustpilot, but it's nevertheless nothing you should claim without backing it up.
@rcy026
The service I received from RackNerd was Über Crap, that's all I need to express a judgment, no rationalization or internalization of guilt is needed .
My honest review was deleted because it was critical of RackNerd's service, that's all I need to call @dustinc a cheater and a specialist in false appearences, no need to vaguely speculate that my review was accidentally abducted by the Martians or lost in a boating accident.
(... or maybe it was? Let's talk about that!)
Uhh I dropped the bomb
Edit:
I submitted my review again just now, let's see if within a week it accidentally sinks into the sea next to all the other unwanted relics. Now it's a 1-to-1 battle between @dustinc and archive.org's spider. Who'll be faster?!
I will be interested to see the outcome of your hypothesis :P
Can you please explain how @dustinc or Racknerd can delete reviews from Trustpilot, a third party website? Or do you think @dustinc runs Trustpilot?
By flagging it as inappropriate content
But my re-posted review just went live! We shall see what ill fate awaits it
Will Purple Daddy defeat the Archive.org web spider and pull the review in time before it is crawled and forever immortalized? We shall see!
Man VS Machine!! ⚔
But you do realize that by flagging it as inappropriate content, it is not automatically removed? It is only flagged to Trustpilot, and if they consider it inappropriate content then they will remove it. So the only way your review is removed is if it is in fact deemed inappropriate by someone else, not by Racknerd.
I can also flag reviews as inappropriate, it does not mean that they get removed.
It seems Racknerd has already responded to your review, and as always, there are two sides to every story. I'm trying hard not to pick sides, but to be honest, you do not seem to be telling the whole story here.
That is quite the plan you have there at green cloud. To get something like that you'd have to do the new triennial billing thing (which would only net you 35GB of storage making it far less usable than your 50GB).
I currently am looking and the best option seems to be the $45/yr 8GB ram-60GB storage option. (Which is still an awesome deal btw).
If you flag a review, it will get removed. They'll send you an email to dispute the decision, and most people cba with sending screenshots or whatever. I can also attest to the unstable performance.
For me, my racknerd VPS seems to be stable, so far no performance or down issues or any issue with IPs blocked for mail.
If any issue, Maybe you can drop them an email to discuss a solution like moving to a different node or upgrade to a higher plan! Normally tickets replied quite fast or maybe a while more if more attention is needed!
