There are a few ways to avoid that.
Host your stuff with providers that are not communists.
And do not have your customer base be primairly SJW's screaming at air.
From domain provider standpoint, I'd imagine the most "critical"(able to be attacked by 3rd parties) part are DNS servers, and mitigating DNS attacks is not anything new.
he's fully brainwashed
it's obvious based on the fact that he always calls me what he read on incelnews is bad for today but it never makes any sense
I just cba to respond resonably because he couldn't ever actually respond to a post he just keeps going about how communism is bad, how gay everything is and that feelings don't matter (it's like a badly produced song that's also stuck in repeat)
I think the real evidence is just the fact that simply because I'm not radicalized enough he thinks I'm the enemy; I actually stand up for free-speech and it means a lot to me
I'm also quite right-wing
therefore it's so much more interesting that he react the way he does simply because I don't sound with a cheaply mass-produced version of tucker carlson when I in-fact would stand up for free-speech and if I operated hosting I'd try my best to accommodate what's legal
finally, I've NEVER seen someone that uses communist as an insult as much as he does, yet feels so incredibly entitled as to using companies resources without them wanting to
if anything calling people who wants the companies to decide who they want to serve and who they don't want to serve communists feels like a really badly though out joke
Is that supposed to be aimed at me? If so, I think you have me mixed up with someone else. If not, maybe you should add context about who you are talking about.
treesmokah, the one user you quoted replying to my reply
edit: i can see how it could have been unclear, sorry
Oh, that reminds me of a youtube short I came across yesterday, which I'll share.
I don't actually have a clue what Tucker Carlson's viewpoint is, I just recognise the name and know he's controversial and often mentioned in arguments like this, although I've never bothered googling him (even ironically while typing this when it'd have been quicker to do so). But I thought this video was interesting, as the guy filming this was clearly being obnoxious and trying to provoke him into a reaction - not least by how close the camera was to his face, but I was impressed with how well he handled this situation and turned what could have been a meme clip into him embarassing the aggressor by his politeness:
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/fQvBL1R5nNs
it's extremely good media training
he has tons of tricks that he uses
one of the main one's is that he ALWAYS keeps very calm, which no matter the argument always make him seem like the most resonable person (calm = resonable, resonable = right)
my absolute favorite of his tricks though, that really, no matter what you think of him, is PURE genius, is how he shields himself from counter-arguments by instead of stating controversial opinions or facts, he very regularely bakes them into questions, and then, he often even adds "I'm just asking questions, shouldn't we ask questions?"
look at this for a few seconds (starting at 4:27):
and this short clip, and you'll see what I mean:
Only have 1 domain with them, going to wait for namecrane and move out after.
in my country, a "communist" is an insult, communists have been ruining our country for decades and we haven't even recovered yet. plenty of people got killed, jailed for no reason and other shit. they are as bad(if not worse) than actual Neo-Nazists(not some edgy people, actual criminals).
regarding ur second point, I do not believe I'm entitled to anything if someone(the party providing service) does not want to. anything I do, I consult with a host to ask if its fine for them, if it isn't - I reconsider my options. I have NEVER pushed a provider to do things they don't allow.
all I'm saying is, that in my opinion companies should stay off politics, for example like Tucows does(or used to do) https://web.archive.org/web/20210419095044/https://tucows.com/blog/2017/12/15/why-tucows-doesnt-take-down-domains-for-website-content-issues/
You are free to think whatever you want about me, call me an incel, call me whatever the fuck you want - at the end of the day, you don't know jack shit about me + I don't really care what someone calls me on the internet, and especially not a person that never talked to me in private.
if you got a problem with me, message me in private and call me whatever you want. i do not want to move this thread off its tracks, as I believe its very important for the community to know what Epik been up to recently.
Definitely agree with this take. Avoiding the drama part, but in regards to the rest I do think there’s a big difference between someone on the right side and someone that’s alt-right. At what point do you draw the line is the question, really. I’m from the Midwest so most people around here are right sided.
Specifically though you’re right the article was more about the business side of serving that extreme, radicalized market, and the consequences that come with it. Also, Rob Monster is basically the fucking Mcafee of the hosting industry. He even has ties to Nick Lim and Martin Shkreli.
Yes, avoiding what I said about any user you’re very right.
@Francisco proves (even though he’s been getting shit for being tolerant as to what he hosts) that it’s possible to believe in free-speech without getting all of the attention that Rob Monster seems to have though would purely be good for business.
Again, he got shit for hosting some fucked up sites, but what you said about BuyVM in your article really is true.
No body who’s into the hosting industry and not very extreme politically, while they could dislike Fran for hosting what he host(ed), could honestly say he’s himself a white supremacist, with Rob Monster I feel like something, whatever it is, kind of lights through about his motivations and to who he markets this freedom.
Fran just has his values and those extreme users who used Fran probably most of them at least, are fully aware Fran don’t agree with them but stands up for them either way.
Monster dosen’t give me at all that same genuine believe in freedom even for opponents.
And I’ll gladly accuse a company of a totally different agenda of doing the same: Bahnhof.
They are always making noise about how extremely tolerant they are.
Then comes Lexbase, a fully legal Swedish site to search up if someone has been in a legal fight basically.
Bahnhof just shut it down after they got hacked without any real warning at all.
The legal site didn’t share its’ values.
With Fran, I’m sure he’d actually keep hosting anything that’s legal as long as he’s not forced not to by his providers or because of other technical reasons.
I have no idea what you said here
Epik provides services to all politically motivated orgs, no matter who they stand for. And it has been proven. Seems like you are wrong.
https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2021/09/even-epik-says-the-texas-abortion-whistleblower-site-violates-its-rules/
While people love to accuse Epik of being "far-right", "alt-right' or whatever the wordofthemonth-right it is today, despite them showing they can kick those people from their platform when they go too far.
You can have whatever opinion you want on Rob(and he deserves a lot of shit for his recent actions), but you can't take away from him the fact that Epik is(or was) the only popular domain registar on the market that stood to its values - of providing domains and hosting to EVERYONE(as long as what they do is legal).
I don't know what to say, even the text you quoted me typing out does not contradict that, I wrote, and you quoted:
"Monster dosen’t give me at all that same genuine believe in freedom even for opponents."
It could have to do with:
Apart from the fact that someone even in this thread got a fake DMCA and was suspended for days, do note that he only had jews in his board to help with "keeping certain forces at bay". That was their value, to keep other jews away. Just think about that.
"a lot" of jewish people is also according to Monster just waiting to get dealt with by God "in His time".
Not very likely that any jewish organization would wanna host with someone who seems to have a constant need to generalize jews and basically always in a negative light.
He didn't join Gab, apparently, to express his love.
I put this in bold; so that you don't miss it, considering the amount of text I got above: If you have ANY real argument as to my point that you'd actually want me and maybe others here to know about and understand, please do not try to "win" by raising your own questions back at me, or simply going all in on 1-3 (or any amount) of points above. Instead, I'd really like to know if you consider Monster's own words to openly promote the value of everyone's right to freedom of expression, according to my above points (if you don't agree with some of them, leave them, some of them, at least, you must agree with?
Also: Would you, if born a jew, and constantly have been harassed and mocked because of it, consider Rob Monster to be a welcoming, warm hand to host your blog about how jews are harassed and discriminated against, for example?
As a practising imam regurarely getting death threats from white supremasists, would you feel confident having someone who makes it his duty to simultaneously spread the video of the shooting (and asking his staff to make sure to watch it) since it's obivously fake, but also to keep the "aggressor's" manifesto since nobody should be able to take it down? He also considers a former Ku Klux Klan leader to be "a pretty clever guy" - for real? Why even be in a white supremacist podcast with a former Ku Klux leader at all? I guess it's fitting though.
It's just obivous that he's in way too deep in lies, the manifesto wrote before the guy commited a clear act of terrorism was real, but what he did was faked? And also, Tarrant himself was clear to admit the act in court and not to be seen as mentally ill, as that would lessen his cause.
Still, Monster knows better than the shooter himself, it didn't happen.
The marketing, his profile and how he choosed to be known, sadly, was non-inclusive.
So yeah, if I'm not genuinely impressed by a thought out reply from your perspective, I'm done here.
Yes, denying the by the shooter admitted shooting of muslims, hanging around at a famous alt-right social media and having jews in his board to keep other jews away and, not a long time later, both Jewish board members had resigned from Epik over ideological differences are all good signs of not being alt-right.
What would you honestly call the views spread by Monster and his involvement and podcasting with actual white supremacists if not alt-right? What ideology do you think reflect this constant hatred of muslims and jews? Liberalism?
It just dosen't make any sense.
They are his personal views, he is free to have any.
I've been made aware of countless leftie sites running on Epik at least in the past, so they clearly allow everyone in - whether "Rob" agrees with them or not.
I think you underestimate how big of a company Epik was, Rob can't just go there and say "LETS BAN THEY GOY" and do that.
I do not have to spread my political believes here, but generally nothing happens for no reason on this world.
Lets start with a simple question, how people will know you are a jew unless you fucking scream it at their faces?
I believe most people are not evil and won't go after someone because of their religion(well, maybe except Muslims Jihadists or Zionists).
But maybe its just me.
When I see an article on one of my absolute favourite media sites such as Bloomberg, Vice(bankrupt), Buzzfeed(bankrupt) or Huffpost(bankrupt) about harassment, I never see an opinion of the other side. Why are they "harassing" someone? What did this person do?
What's wrong with that?
I would be happy for not working for the 1% that owns pretty much anything on this world. He also only cited "kike", he has not used it as a slur but yeah, Wikipedia being Wikipedia.
This is fucked up.
I challenge You to find something that ADL doesn't consider a "hate crime against jews". They are praising Zionism themselves(aka murdering people that live on their own land but jews think its theirs).
Well, if you are getting death threats, you should call the cops.
Regarding whether You'd want to be hosted by Rob or not, that's on you mate - If you find him "bad", then don't, simple as that.
I do not really want to continue it anymore tbh, I don't really have time for it. You have your own views, I have mine.
In my honest opinion I believe Epik(as a company) was truly focused on free speech, and if some (rare) mismanagement from Rob side happened(aka kicking the Jewish board in this case), I'm sorry it happened because I believe they should host anything permitted by American laws.
Honest question: Is that just sometimes or a general rule that's rarely not the case? For example, was there a relevant, and to some not insignificant degree of justification for the holocaust?
Answer to questions below if you want to, the above is my main question.
Why would an organization formed to "stop the defamation of the Jewish people" spend their time covering cases were people question jews but not enough to be a hate crime?
Their view: They are fed up with what jews have to endure and want to change that, they never claimed to be a newspaper to cover everyone, they want to cast a light on maltreatment of jews.
I'd honestly be mad if I was a jew, donated to ADL to try to support a cause I believe in and they turn around and focus on what they consider NOT to be an issue for jews.
It just dosen't make sense for them to spend their resources like that.
How much effort do you think Rob Monster's podcast-friend, the former Ku Klux Klan leader, spends covering what's good with black people?
He sure is, but you defended him not being alt-right, and so I was wondering what ideology you think better fit this obvious obsession with denying hate crimes against muslims, painting jews as bad people that are only good to keep other jews away and that god will deal with them soon enough? You still didn't answer what ideology you think fits with what you even admitted in your reply was fucked up.
Mainly, a normal response by a non-nazi when called any anti-semitic slur isn't to immediately talk about how jews own it all and that he isn't one, it's to challenge the need for anti-semitic slurs
Yes, and very displaying of his character - that helps understanding his motives behind other less obviously anti-semetic things that he does.
You're constantly shifting topic to law and order, I spend 12 hours a day studying law and I love it but it's not relevant at all to this discussion. I was clearly talking about right and wrong, and law, quite frankly, don't determine that. Law determine legal and illegal. People and society determine right and wrong.
I'm sure you're very aware of the quote "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it" - notice how it dosen't spell "I approve of whatever you say, because it's legal".
I see the law as a minimum barrier as so what's allowed until the effects of said crime is so damaging that justice has to be forced.
That dosen't mean that anything that's legal is also by definition right.
I have never claimed Rob Monster commits illegal crimes, I have simply called him alt-right. That's not illegal, hence, law is irrelevant.
Notice how that wasn't ever a point I was making; that I personally wouldn't wanna be hosted by Rob. My point is that someone who can't even stand jews that he himself said are good for the company to be near him (my understanding of it all), probably isn't the right man to stand up for their rights anywhere else.
I believe Holocaust was fucked up. A lot of innocent people died there.
That's it.
They have more power than you think. ADL can singlehandedly destroy pretty much ANYONE for ANY reason. Didn't they call Elon Musk a "nazi" some time ago and now they are seething it didn't work?
Tell me which popular western newspaper DOESN'T talk about "jewish problems"? And now tell me which talks about problems Christians have to face. Or even White People(certain areas of NY for example are entirely gated from white people). Is it fine in your opinion?
where? i don't think i ever did, i only defended Epik(to a degree) not Rob Monster.
Isn't ADL paid to do that? Why would he care? Its just a word that is meaningless to anyone that isn't offended by everything on this world.
My bad then.
Offering our own anycast DNS product is a must for Namecrane, which means it'll need good DDOS protection amongst other things.
Most registrar's decided to just offload their DNS services onto Cloudflare, pushing more and more centralizing of the internet. We really want to go against the grain on that and hope to be able to offer something pretty good on our own.
The latency won't be as low as CF simply because we aren't on every IX around there, but we hope in time to grow it past an initial 6 - 8 DC's we'll anycast from.
Francisco
Please, please, please do not use Path for it.
Sounds good, maybe you will have enough "free bandwidth" left in your DC's to spin up some local filtering appliances?
https://www.cloudns.net/ from my understanding just uses whatever bandwidth mix(which often includes ddos protection) their upstream gives them. Similar model would work there, for "Edge" locations where you don't have as many resources and would largely benefit from ddos protected link compared to "plain" bandwidth.
I think frantech/buyvm already uses path so it would probably make sense to use path for frantech, but I agree, less path is good.
and...
Let me real, we all know kiwi's gonna end up being the first DNS customer we ever sign up, and that's going to ruffle feathers at Path.
If I can get guarantees from them that they aren't going to throw a tiff about customer X,Y, & Z? Sure, I can consider them. If I can't? Well, we get contacted by many DDOS protection vendors all the damn time offering us their mitigation services. Be it we do a combination of them or whatever, so be it.
You can end up with lopsided requests just because of AS-PATH and all that fun stuff. I'd like to stick with 1 provider that has a decent reach and then slowly add to that via peering on IX's. It's a cost thing though, so we can't be growing onto 20 - 30 IX's while only servicing a dozen or whatever DNS customers. We'd need to hit a critical mass where we can budget adding IX's outside whomever we pick for mitigation.
Namecrane itself will have additional locations outside of BuyVM for shared/resellers. London for sure, i'd love to get something into the APAC region.
Francisco
What?
That's completely incorrect in every possible way. I can imagine that many providers stay true to THEIR values which doesn't happen to be your values.
Heck ... even I feel like your personal values aren't my values.
According to who?
According to who?
According to me.
I hope not, would be a nice stresstest but I hope your first years will be without any problems and extra headaches.
Other than that what dns stack are you going for? I like bind and nsd but that is file only and I wanted to work on my own dns provider for me and my friends but editing files is dumb, wanted to make a web panel. So what DNS stack (dns server/frontend-backend communication thing) are you going for?
Duly noted.
If you have specific requirements, developing a dashboard for any DNS major software is probably very easy.
I use:
https://github.com/PowerDNS/pdns (master, slave)
https://github.com/poweradmin/poweradmin (One of the few ones that basically could be installed anywhere, no Docker or other weird requirements for what’s just a simple dashboard really)
Used powerdns before, but I was wondering what his stack would be, I am making my own software for bind/nsd integration
I'll just say that my issue with Monster is that he's basically a white-supremacist Christian nationalist (fascist?). (That he's for free speech is fine.) (And here I'm setting aside his role in Epik's financial disaster)
Fran is for free speech, but as far as I'm aware, he's not a white-supremacist Christian nationalist. (Or if he is, he keeps it to himself)
Free mass shooting video with every domain registered. Group baptism's are every weekend behind the shed, with a garden hose.
Francisco
(You and I have our differences but) that piece that you wrote was an entertaining summary of the situation
