    I'd say sci-fi in that list. But what I find most important is complicated / rich characters. I'd more easily get into something with for example some thinking about human condition / modern world or stuff like that than just pure 'free' violence.

    All self-contained, reasonably short shows to start you off. Not necessarily my favourites, but good starting points.

    Steins;Gate does fall under the science fiction category.
    Madoka Magica is psychological, it may not be for everyone...
