I just learnt that VirMach actually sell Runescape Hosting as well...

We partnered with someone who was into that use case, maybe around 5 years ago. As of early last year, we stopped selling those packages. We also have our Minecraft hosting sub-brand, and we've stopped selling those as well to focus on the core brand.

They may or may not return in the future if that matters.

@MasonR said: But I will say it's been a challenge to get VirMach's attention to get input on if they want to continue sponsorship of the FreeMach server. Made a couple forum comments/tags and a PM here, but haven't heard zip. For the record, I'm perfectly fine with a "no, we're too busy and need to reallocate the service to a paying customer", but I'd just like to let my users know for sure what's going to happen as we approach the expiration date in the middle of this month and try to set up an alternative/paid refugee service if need be. Don't want to needlessly clog their support desk with this type of stuff either, so we'll see. Anywho... don't want to dump on VirMach as they've been very kind and I realize they're busier than Jon and Chris on "Jerk Off A Jerk Off" Day.

I actually had an idea for it, will let you know once I have more solid information for you. Actually no I'll just tell you now ... but just don't hold me accountable if this doesn't ever happen. We have a lot of leftover hardware we're giving away and I was thinking we'd reserve 1U for you in Los Angeles. I figured it'd be better, but if people don't want to relocate, the backup plan was NYC later down the line. That'll allow us to give it for forever-ish instead since it's not tied to ColoCrossing. I'd have no problem extending it now and then informing you when it can't continue instead but I figured that'd be a crappy thing to do randomly in the future than having year-to-year assurances.

@saibal said: Would this be the year of the Ryzens? Have an awesome 2021 guys!

Thank you, I hope so as well.

@JabJab said: Sorry, I won't believe that. You (or some PR-marketing-guy-intern) need to read PMs on that hostedtalk and click stuff via panel later. That time used for that could be used for reading tickets (even on totally basic level) and finding the one with stupid titles, but (for example) mentioning 'give money back, service not provided, paid, BF promo'.

Guy not trained for refunds? Sure thing - give him read-only access to those tickets, let him put that tickets in some google docs for rest of team to investigate.

This is your "my brain melted, I need something nice and easy to do for a break" - sure thing, but find something else - not public.... play Monopoly or something

It's something we would have done here and where we ended up posting it instead will work out infinitely better. The people (so far) are kind and not time-consuming at all. I still text my parents from time to time too and I guess that's time I could be spending reading PMs on HT. But I guess I enjoy doing it. Remember, I started this as a hobby and if anything it's just something that I do not consider work maybe to reminisce of how things used to be instead. Being able to do something without much worry and knowing everything won't hit the fan. I like offering people great deals and I decided I would just post it there and at this point, I'd really appreciate not being criticized for it.

I'm not claiming that we do everything perfectly but I would like to think we're able to at least gauge that we can offer free services. Of course, they might receive the worst support ever on their free service until we help everyone else should a situation arise where something unforseen happens on their free services, but at least we won't be called essentially thieves for just not being able to render their product immediately.

Sweet! Sounds like a plan to me! <3 I don't think the users would mind being migrated to a new box in LA or NYC. As long as it's still in the States somewhere, should be perfectly fine. (+ I'm all for getting out of CC-land)

Just give me a shout when the time is right. The current server is set for expiration on 18 Jan. I've temporarily removed my PayPal billing agreement so I don't get charged the ~$500 for the renewal :P . Feel free to reach out whenever the time is right via your preferred method -- here, via ticket, or HostedTalk, or smoke signals. Cheers!

  • So I did put all services into spreadsheet so next time with mailing "NODE XX going down" I will be able to find what service is going down rather than trying to load panel to see what node I am on...

    25559 MB RAM in total.
    453 GB disk in total.
    13884 GB BW.
    34 IP addresses.

200$ per year. I should probably drop some idlers but was too lazy this year and extended those. Was too lazy to cancel them now too, just cancelled this year BF worst buy ever with 128MB RAM for 10$.

With just VirMach or in total?

  • Seem low on BW

  • @FrankZ said: With just VirMach or in total?

Of course it's just VirMach, we are in VirMach topic!

@ben47955 said: Seem low on BW

Some of those servers are 100GB per month, but I've never ever hit even those limits. Ok, most of them are idlers... one is "in use", but that it's for Discord webhooks so 100GB should be enough, just don't upgrade too often

  • Don't want to make dick size contest, but their my sum :
    39,84 GB of RAM
    50 vCore

    30,7 TB of BW
    28 IPv4

For 16 VPS. Total is 163$/y but include free vps.

I'm not going to skip the queue to answer your ticket but I bet if you ask your question here other people will be able to help you because it's a very simple answer.

  • Reading @JabJab's comment made me compute my yearly idling expenses and god I should have a one-on-one conversation with myself! :s

  • OK, lets try. So guys, I want to install ubuntu 18.04 desktop and I already have it mounted (there is no 18.04 in "reinstall OS" option). How to do it from 14.04 server version?

We have Ubuntu 18 in the ISO mount options. You can mount it, change the boot order to CDRom first, reboot, and then access VNC for the setup screen.

I'm aware of that, that's why I wrote I already mounted it. I don't know how to change boot order, since everything I found online was either as a GUI, which I don't have, or it's something related to windows and people having trouble with dual boot.

It should be in your control panel options. Click VPS Control panel, and it'll be one of the options there.

  • @oriend: You should have something at the bottom of your VPS control panel (solusvm.virmach.com):

Clicking on the Boot order drop down should give you this:

  • Yeah, just finished installing after @Virmach post. Thanks to both of you!

  • @JabJab did you end up running anything on that 128M VM?

  • @randomq said: @JabJab did you end up running anything on that 128M VM?

Nope, just tried to install from template Centos 8 or Debian 10 - both failed as expected :)
No time to play with it at the moment, but I still have a whole year to make it working :D

  • Happy new year all!... (was mostly away from computer since the 31st)...

Also, are there 2 forms of "sinking" in this Vanilla forum software? I'm sure that previously, for this thread, even though the date for the "Most recent by" was stuck at November 2018, the author, and the number of unread posts ("XX new") were being updated...

I made the mistake of selecting "Mark All Viewed" (with the slim hope that it would do just the opposite - mark all unread)... Would that be the reason I can't see the number of new posts on this thread anymore?? :disappointed: :rage:

  • I'm not sure how Vanilla sinks threads but you should still be able to see the count of new posts in any thread after you have marked all as read. Which page is this thread listed now? Maybe I can take a look. Currently, I just have this thread bookmarked.

  • No idea.

Doesn't seem to be happening in my case for some reason...

Same here, it's part of my bookmarks. But it's also listed under Black Friday/Cyber Monday 2018 category as well (should be 2nd after the announcement)
