Does hosthatch have a tutorial on using a custom iso? I uploaded a windows iso, but it didn’t work. I asked the technical department for help, but he has not responded to me for five days.

Did you read this note in the control panel: "For Windows, please make sure you add the VirtIO drivers on to the ISO. The official ISOs from Microsoft do not include VirtIO drivers by default"?

Yes, my iso already has a VirtIO driver, but it still doesn't work, so I am very troubled. It doesn't seem to be mounted. When I choose to boot from the iso after mounting it, shut it down and boot, it is still centos Login screen instead of Windows

Can you explained the steps you followed? This is what I did to get Windows ISO booting:

    1. Upload ISO file
    2. Refresh the page. In the ISO dropdown, select your uploaded ISO and click mount.
    3. Switch boot order to "ISO > Disk"
    4. Stop your server. Wait for it to show "stopped".
    5. Start your server and check noVNC.

Eagerly waiting for the HK deployment... home sweet home... :p can give a heads-up on which part of HK it would be?

Unfortunately our ISO upload feature is not very bug free for the moment due to the large number of people uploading ISOs. We are going to make it more efficient in January.

But here are a few basic points:

    • Upload an ISO that is with a direct URL, and the URL has .iso in the end
    • Do not try to test uploading other files or redirecting URLs (even for fun)
    • Again, do not try that, as that will likely break the feature for your server for the future
    • For Windows, make sure the VirtIO drivers are included in the same ISO

    More importantly:

    • It needs to be uploaded from a fast source. If the connection breaks, then you are going to have a lot of problems;

    • And to be able to achieve this the best way, you can simply install your VPS with any OS first, download the ISO to it instead, put it on a webserver, and use your own URL to upload it to the control panel. Since it will be uploading to the same node where your VPS is, the likelihood of any connection problems during the upload is very low to none.

Yes, I did it according to what you said. When I use Linux iso, it works very well, but Windows iso does not work. After I uploaded the Windows iso with VirtIO driver After mounting, I choose to boot from the iso-hard disk, and then I shut down the vps and then turned it on. However, when I opened the vnc console, it was still the login window of centos, not Windows, so I was very troubled.

    Yes, this is my order
    1. Upload iso,
    2. Select my iso and mount,
    3. Select the startup sequence as iso>disk,
    4. Shut down,
    5. Boot and view from vnc.
By the way, my iso is Windows server 2008 r2.

Why are you trying to install an OS that has been EOL'd?

  • @aibook said: By the way, my iso is Windows server 2008 r2.

Can you check lsblk in CentOS to see if the ISO is actually mounted? Many Windows ISOs require you to press a key within 5 seconds or so, otherwise it will just boot from the first hard drive. That might be why.

Thanks. I obviously have missed this page.

Wow! Basically the best datacentre here. 15km away from home :) good stuff! look forward to seeing it going live!

Do you offer VPS from your home connection? How much? :)

  • @swat4 said: can give a heads-up on which part of HK it would be?

Why would you need to know where is the server physically located?

  • @fkj said: Why would you need to know where is the server physically located?

People have been reported to change their homes/apartments just to be closer to the DC.

Thank you for your reply, it is a good idea, I will try it.

Because the software I want to use does not support the new version of the system.

LOL but it's Hong Kong, where the two farthest DC in here is 25min driving in between.

  • I've gotten all the purchased services deployed except existing service upgrades which are low priority anyways. Couldn't be happier with the server performance and overall support by @hosthatch and his team. Support has been responsive and very helpful so I cannot understand all the complaints over here. A little bit of patience and being friendly and polite will take you far (and not just in the hosting business :) ).

Thank you @hosthatch for the 2+ years of great service and I'm looking forward to many more successful years to come!

Does someone remember the initially stated delivery time for Madrid and Milan on the flash sale offer order page?
Currently says within 10 business days, which have passed by now.

Asking because I've got an invoice for next month, while it isn't delivered yet.
Cancellation of the entire order was denied unfortunately.

I think it is the same as in original post.

@hosthatch said: (Hong Kong, Madrid and Milan can be pre-ordered, but delivery will be by December 31st).

It may be frustrating to see a much later date, but these locations are not ready yet. Having an extra invoice is a problem, try opening a ticket.

not sure where you have read something about 10 working days for these locations...

the flash sales were on pages 9, 15, 29, 34 (no madrid/milan on those) and finally page 37 with the new location bundles.

no specific mentioning of any change to what the opening post already told:

@hosthatch said: Hong Kong, Milan and Madrid will also be launched in the next couple of weeks. We can take pre-orders for these locations if you are keen, but guaranteed delivery will be December 31st.

    Here you go.

I'm not sure if it was like that when ordering, and unfortunately no archive.org save available as an account is needed to see it. That's why I'm asking.

I am not sure if it said that, and if it did, it would be a typo since it has been mentioned several times here and in the OP that the delivery for MAD/MIL/HKG will be 31st December.

That's like 7 hours of VPS with premium HK bandwidth for $0.01 a month? I'll take it, please PM login details! :)

  • It’s all about the timing for the windows iso. You want to be connected to the VNC straight away from reboot as to not miss the “press key to boot from CD...”

All new servers have been provisioned since a while ago, other than some very specific large/complex orders that we are working on.

If your server is not provisioned, please contact us so we can check asap. This does not apply to Madrid, Milan or Hong Kong. Those are 31st December deliveries.
