... It's fantastic to be able to interact with the owner of such a company using Twitter. In order to get an answer you have to ask the right question and you also need the right timing

Oh yes, the only problem is to meet both criteria - ask the question they would wish to answer.

Too bad those aren't questions that really are important to me. Perhaps this is why they only respond to me with silence. Nice support.

I read most of this thread but I'm still stuck with a question, hope somebody can answer this for me.

I'm from the EU, paid 2 servers with Paypal on the 27th and both payments are marked as ''complete'' in Paypal.

What will this mean to me? No servers or 2 servers in about a couple of weeks?

I hope someone can at least give me an educated guess.

    Thanks!

As far as I know you will receive your server when the your payment is completed/accepted. Atleast I received mine when paid with paypal.

@ztec I dont know for sure, you better ask OVH about that. My 3 KS2GS haven't been cancelled yet and I ordered on the 25th.

  • Is it just me or is it impossible to change your kernel on a 2G?

    Not impossible, just difficult

There's a menu in the managerv3 where you can select the default kernel instead of OVH's grsec kernel. You don't have to replace the kernel yourself, which is indeed a bit tricky sometimes. Unless they specifically disabled this option on the 2G. I know it's available for the 4G and 16G.

  • Stay away from ovh, their VAC got mad and now my server isn't accessable to anyone for 18 hours, tickets got ignored or useless answers were given.

  • xsetxset Member

@tr1cky What did you do with it to get VAC mad? Useless answers like what? Tickes ignored?? Did yoy call them?

  • Yesterday my server became unresponsive, I immediately opened a ticket with all the details I had, they answered after 10 hours, this was their answer, ofcourse they did nothing to fix it and the initial attack on the server was long gone:

    Dear customer,

If your server is under mitigation,it indicates that your server is under attack.
This protection once enabled, cannot be manually disabled,

With this new solution,by the network protection layer, we can mitigate the
    traffic.
It's still being adjusted by our teams to reach the best results.

For the moment you can use the api in order to add specific rules like via an iptable using this link:
    https://api.ovh.com/console/#/ip

You can also eventually report your issue to the mailinglist [email protected],but you should first subscribe to the mailinglist ddos by sending an email to:
    [email protected]

    Best regards,
    Mehdi.

So they basically told me to fuck off, I can't remove the IP, because "it's under attack" (no, it isn't) from mitigation and nobody on the mailing list answers me.

  • Relax. It will be removed from the VAC after 36h after the last attack. You can check when that will be using the API - or just wait.

So 37.187.0.193 is down for how long ?

IP is 37.187.0.193 and it is definitely not reachable.> @pechspilz said:

It won't be removed because they are still seeing an attack, even if there's none.

  • Did they mention how long that ddos protection will be active? because I did'nt find this information in that email

  • xsetxset Member

@tr1cky might take 25-48 hours until mitigation stops

  • It just makes no sense, why would the firewall block everything?

  • Indeed, it looks like its getting looped in the VAC. The tracroute is endless. That looks really messed up.

  • xsetxset Member

@tr1cky it should only block those addresses it thinks were part of the attack. simple ping was enough to get me blocked durin ddos. why was your server target of ddos? perhaps you can make a new ticket with the explanation that all traffic is blocked and with that traceroute. also email the ddos mailing list

  • I allready made a second ticket, nobody answered, I mailed to the mailing list and some member there just right now reported the same, there's a loop, unfortunately I don't have the attention of the ovh staff.

  • well, it seems the truth came out yesterday, they don't have the hardware, Intel is to blame

  • tricky what kind of server do you have?

  • @Dikobraz said:
tricky what kind of server do you have?

This one is a 2g, but it could happen to any server.

  • It's just ridiculous:

    Dear Customer,

    ARBOR is a network protection
on which we don't have any access.

As indicated before, if your server
is found protected by this installation
, this means that it had attacks or problems
jeopardizing our network and our infrastructur.

[email protected] : that's the assistance
that we can give you in this case.

They are so cool, no staff member on their mailing list replys to messages and they keep telling me to go there, allthough I wrote them they don't reply there.

  • Has anyone had any experience having their friends or relatives order a server for them, and using it? I mean..I'm outside the EU, but have friends in EU who are not an existing OVH customer, and would like to order through them, and use it myself. Will they have checks in place to cancel service if the panel is managed from non EU geolocation?

So I can't have my IT guy in America check over my config? ... ;)

possible, however the server will be on their card forever. also 2g is out of stock for next few weeks.

Ah if it's out of stock, no dice.

dikobraz Can't agree more! They should lower the price to 15 eur without second HDD.
Now this is more interesting but with only 8 GB RAM:
    http://www.online.net/fr/serveur-dedie/dedibox-classic

I ordered that server from online.net there was constant packetloss all the time around 10%-20% and then at once it peaked to 50% I emailed the datacenter for a refund but they said "But in the end of the month of july we change our road in the end of our datacenter. It's possible than you'll a better connection then." they also claimed it was a problem of my end of the traceroute but I tested services like just ping and all european countries were getting 10% packetloss. I canceled the order and paypal agreement and refused to pay the next month since they wouldn't cancel or refund me. the failover ips were also not working correctly, bad experience for me there so probably wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

  • Still waiting for my 2G KS but I'm much more patient that a lot of people around here so i'll just wait. Got the mSP on saturday was reading the forums stating that they would not be 1gbit burst and they are capped at 200mb but downloaded 1GB UK test file at 106M/s so pretty pleased about that, not checked if the upload is capped at 200mb but yeah its pretty good for the price

But at least you will get N2800 ;) They simply sold what they had in stock, but how they allow orders for non existing hardware/servers is beyond me. Maybe they just wanted the money ;( They might still cancel orders claiming that they cant get parts!

  • xsetxset Member

@pkr5770 Still havent gotten mSPs, will call ovh tomorrow!
